"On this for me as I said earlier the jury is out, each of us has to decide if Jw's are materially damaged by using dates in there Doctrines originally and still retaining the 1914 as the time satan has come down to earth, personally I think we will leave dates behind as many current religious groups have, it seems to be a mistake of newish faiths but one they quickly grow out of but.....the world is significantly changed since Jesus first came and the bible is very clear we have to keep prepared for Armegeddon, if men have rushed ahead of the bible and like in thessalonians made themselves foolishly predicting dates Paul forgave them. But I don't think assuming it won't happen on the bases of false predictions is a good idea either."
Yeah, this forum is pretty much populated by people who called the WTS out on their false dates. It's really, really great that the jury is still out for you, most of us - who are Christian - believe that Christ defeated Satan when he ascended to heaven in 33AD. Those of us who aren't Christians probably don't forgive the WTS for insisting their adherents believe and disseminate their chronology.
Jesus repeatedly warned his followers to be on the look out for false prophets and/or those who would mislead them. It kinda isn't an option to say, "Well, we just ran ahead of the Bible a little there, forgive us, at least we kept you feeling all 'urgent' about Christ's return, no?" It also isn't an option to say, "It would be fitting if Jesus fit right in with our dates."

Defence of watchtower society Links
by reniaa ini thought long and hard before making this thread, that many will not agree with it but i think there needs to be balance and people to realise there are alternate viewpoints out there on many of these subjects, the ones that are most spoke about on this forum.
i was recently sent a full message containing mary's book and these links give the rebuttal to many of her points.
those that are still open-minded enough feel free to look over them even if in the end you still don't agree at least you have heard both the defence as well as the attack as they are on the internet.

If it doesn't matter whether Christ died on a cross or not, why do JWs make an issue of it? It's the whole 'graven image' issue, isn't it? If so, have a quick glance at the front cover of your study edition WT. Notice that massive watchtower bearing down on the Bible? Have a look at the glass door panels at the Paterson buildings. A watchtower positioned over a Bible.
What about the tie clips, key rings, bookmarks, Bible covers that feature watchtowers or the tetragrammaton? 'Graven images'? -

Hey, cool, Reniaa answers the hard questions regarding international spelling standards, but deftly sidesteps the questions regarding the WTS false prophet status.

Indoctrination of children into the Watchtower Society
by Homerovah the Almighty inpulling off from another thread, the topic of children and the watchtower comes into high lighted consideration,.
there is little doubt on the enormous psychological effects the wts's mental indoctrination has in the developmental growth of children.. i personally went through this myself as you folks as well, so i can relate to the experience.. goaling people to become servitude slaves for the needs of the society in support of both their identity and financial needs is in itself disturbing.. plying the same tactics on to impressionable children and schooling them into being door to door publishers is nothing more but disgraceful.
and borders on criminal.

Does anyone else remember the WT article about studying the Great Teacher book with your kids? The picture of the mother in the back of the mini-van, sitting between her two sons teaching them from the book made my blood run cold. I used to feel guilty that I refused to study that book with my son and only read the Bible with him. How brainwashed was I?

A question to all active JWs reading this thread;
The WTS ask you to become affiliated with the UN to get a library card, would you do it? Let's be clear, you don't have to tell your friends you've done it, you don't have to start 'supporting' the aims of the UN or anything like that. You just have to fill out a form, be listed on their database as a non-governmental associate of their Department of Public Information and you'll be given access to their wonderful libraries. Granted, you'll be connected to them, but it's just a tenuous link, nothing to worry about. And after all, it's just 'the beast', it's not like it's false religion.
Would you do it? Think carefully. Think about the JWs in Malawi who were raped, beaten, tortured, murdered, lost their children, lost their homes, had to flee to other countries with nothing but the clothes on their backs because they wouldn't affiliate themselves with the ruling government in their land, you know, 'the beast' who ruled their country.
Would you do it? -

Regarding the congregation keeping a record of your act of DA and the letters of the witnesses to your DA, can a person request them to be removed from the congregation file, along with any records pertaining to you as a JW?

You can effect a Tipping Point.....
by sweet pea inplease prove to me i'm not posting in the graveyard shift....... besty and i were talking about password protected and family's exit this last few weeks.
we are full of admiration for the way that they have left with dignity and obviously made many think.
they have not faded, they had a good repuation until the very last moment - mark was an elder - but they stopped and made the decision to be up front and face the elders in a meeting.

@halcyon - what's remarkable about the great exodus of the 1980s is that it happened around the globe, people - independent of each other - woke up and left. But the really remarkable thing is that those who left are still having an impact on the Org over 20 years later through books they've written, testimonies they've given at conferences, mp3s of them speaking about their experiences etc. Speaking personally, it was ones like Cris Sanchez and other like him who helped my exit.

new blog post - Shunning; a look at the 2nd letter of John
by passwordprotected inas with my other blog posts, i've tried to keep a non-aggressive stance towards wts teachings with the view of trying to reach jws who may be a bit shaky in their wts faith.
in this blog post i look at 2 john 10 and discuss the practice of shunning.. .
feedback and comments on the blog are much appreciated.
