this must have been mentioned before,but now reniaa is back it could be fun.. if jw's are even part way to the truth,and all other religions are false, then they must have a doctrine that is unique to them,given by holy spirit, but plainly taught in the bible,without resorting to fancifull exegesis and bouncing around from verse to verse out of context etc.. what is that doctrine?.

Reniaa, as you're keen to stick to the Bible and reject unscriptural doctrines such as the trinity and the cross (although you seem to confuse reverence of the cross with worship of it), are you comfortable with Jesus words - in the Bible - in Acts 1:8 that it doesn't belong to men to get ot know the times and seasons? Obviously the Watch Tower Society has ignored Jesus and claimed that they do in fact have such knowledge.

Does this bother you as much as the trinity or the cross? Do Jesus words not carry as much weight as Mosaiac Laws?

@ besty - spelling - vacillation. Tut tut.

@ Reniaa - I respect you more when you don't try to dodge the issues. So you can't see yourself being involved with the churches of 'Christendom' because of the trinity and 'worship of the cross'*. That's fine. At least now you're saying clearly that you'll accept the unscriptural teaching of 1919. And that's a good thing if you're a JW wishing to remain in good standing as you and I both know that to reject 1919 - even on scriptural grounds - will result in you being disfellowshipped from the Jehovah's Witness religion.

Now that you've done that, can you understand why people would choose to reject such a stand point, risk eternal damnation at Jehovah's hand when he unleashed Armageddon, and believe the trinity instead?

*as far as I know only the Catholic church gets involved with cross worship. The church I attend - Riverside Gospel Church - has no cross in sight anywhere.

A much more important issue facing the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society is their claim that Jesus became King in 1914, thus ending the Gentile Times. The 'generation' teaching pales when placed next to the huge issue of Christ's impotent, almost-100-year reign.

The reason it's so important for Reniaa to both face and answer this question is because the teaching of their 1919 selection has to be believed by all Jehovah's Witnesses whether there is any scriptural backing for it or not. Jehovah's Witnesses class beliefs such as these as part of the 'body of Christian teachings that have become part of the Bible'. Much like the 1935 sealing date, there is no backing for it in the Bible itself. However, Jehovah's Witnesses make no apology for this. It is to be regarded as one of their 'unique beliefs' and as a result it must be accepted, believed and taught by all who wish to remain as Jehovah's Witnesses.

So, if the Organisation is truly backed by Jehovah God, would he hinge a person's salvation on a teaching that can't be backed up in the Bible?*

Reniaa, please consider the question; did Jesus choose the Watch Tower Society in 1919?

*Reniaa has claimed that the Trinity doctrine can't be backed by the Bible/or does not stand up to Biblical examination. However, does the 1919 teaching fair any better?

@ oompah - I emailed that pic to my dad and asked him to show me in the Bible where Jesus ever used the divine name in prayer. His reply contained quotes of Jesus reading from the scroll in the temple and using the name Jehovah (in the NWT, of course). He completely side-stepped the lie the WTS has stated in the above picture.

It also sort of negates the whole "the elders aren't spiritual policemen" vibe. I mean, how are the elders going to hear about some JW letting their "unbelieving" son or daughter stay-over with their common-law partner unless the elders are going to be poking about asking questions?

@ dinah ...and this is exactly the point I'm making. Seems they're gunning for people who let 'unbelieving' kids sleep with their common-law spouse under their roof, but if a child comes forward and accuses the Presiding Overseer Congregation Co-ordinator of sexual misconduct there will be a lot of "ooh"s and "aaaah"s and hand-wringing and references to Mosaic Law texts.

@ besty; I hear you, but we're taking this from the viewpoint of professed Christians who believe the Bible when it says there's "only one, true God". ;-)
