Lets list everything that has pagan origins!!
by song19 ini have a feeling i am going to have to explain to my jw folks why i have decided to allow my children to participate in holidays at school.
theyll probably be wondering too why i will get together with our non jw family for the holidays.. .
we know jws avoid holidays because of their pagan origins.

How about the whole idea of meeting together in a congregational format - originates in antiquity with Pythagoras - and he was pretty 'pagan', he could walk on water and be in several places at the same time. It's now commonly accepted that the early Pauline congregations and 'christian' communities were based upon the Pythagorean model. The concept of one man leading the discussion within the congregational meeting - pagan origins. The structure of walking in pairs when in field service - again pagan, with clear origins in the Pythagorean communities and other philosophical traditions.
The ritual of wine and bread screams archaic and classical Greek religion and the analogy of blood and flesh makes the point quite clear. The actual process of passing wine and bread from one person to another in a solemn ceremony is also pagan, usually accompanied by prayer - whether private or public depends on the occasion. Also determining the dating of the memorial itself, as followed by the borg, was originally formulated by the Bishop Anatolius and I have a feeling he may have been a saint. Does that count as pagan?

Seriously, that was so so bad. I only made it through one and a half clips. And I thought Ishtar or Waterworld were the worst performances ever....how wrong I was.
Jimmypage - I like your idea. I've always been a fan of the 1960/70's style of 'Happenings' or events....we need a whole lot of plants in the audience, possibly hundreds...everyone starts to applaud Scolios, possibly some pro-Scolios banners, flyers, tee shirts, a tasteful collection of commemorative items in support of Scolios, and then everyone starts doing the mexican wave...I sense mischief may be afoot.

Faders: When You Left, did Anyone Give a Damn?
by shamus100 init seems funny to hear how some get love bombed, others get left alone when they fade.
i moved and told nobody - by the time they figured i was 'weak', it was too late - i was gone.
so honestly, what was it like for you when you left the 'organization'?

Technically I faded. The fade itself had been over about a three year period. It was a forced fade; there seemed to be an unspoken shunning because of the reading material I had been caught with. Most of the congregation avoided speaking to me at the K.H, and I was not socialising with J.W's at all. When I decided that the final fase of fade should be completed I moved out of home. I hadn't seen people in my cong for quite a while when suddenly they turned up in the middle of me moving my belongings and they physically tried to stop me from proceeding. Thankfully I had several large 'worldly' lads helping me so they intervened. I was surprised by the physical element of the j.w's interferring, but more surprised that they even cared since they had been shunning me for some time. When I had finally set myself up in my new house and was sorting out the emotional/spiritual baggage - lo and behold - j.w's from the local cong 'happened to be passing by' and introduced themselves, noting that they had been advised by my previous cong that I would probably benefit from a call. I was extremely unimpressed by the whole affair.
So I guess you could say they 'gave a damn', but certainly not for the right reasons.

Hmmm....I started to get more than a little concerned when Smurfs began appearing on Facebook - but now a movie?? I'm guessing it will be an 'Allen Smithy' production, but not before it scares little j.w's into surrendering their toys to be melted down by a flame thrower thingy. What? That didn't happen to you? Don't you know that if you just throw a smurf in the bin it will just climb out again - the only real way to destroy them is by flame. I'll never get that image out of my head....all blue and white melty scorched plastic. Tragic.

Recent Awake! Directive
by whitman ini was informed recently by my mother about the new awake!
directive concerning having an emergency bag of some description in preparation for 'disaster'.
apparently the directive was also highlighted at some meetings.

Ok, I really did try...I checked out jw.org and listened to three Awake! articles to find the information on the emergency pack...but seriously, I can't listen to anymore. If I could get the month and title of the article at least I will only have to listen to one more mp3. I'd forgotten how bad those articles are!!

Hmmmm...I should start hoarding. I thought it was odd for a 'directive' to come from an Awake! article. I assumed it was a strategic move that didn't actually commit the borg to a date of 'disaster' but allowed the r&f to feel as though they had some practical things to attend to in preparation for 'The Disaster'. I found the inclusion of a deed to a house a little amusing. Does anyone know exactly what is to be included in the 'tribulation pack'?

Hello all,
I was informed recently by my mother about the new Awake! directive concerning having an emergency bag of some description in preparation for 'disaster'. Apparently the directive was also highlighted at some meetings. Obviously she has gone ahead and followed this plan, her bag contains all the necessary items for a disaster - including the deed to the house, salt tablets, passport, birth certificate etc. When I asked her about this directive she was a little evasive and will not tell me where this information is actually coming from. Is anyone able to confirm that this is going on as an international directive? Does anyone have the Awake! that outlines the directive? I would love to be able to see a copy of it some how. Any suggestions, comments or thoughts?
