  I cannot understand why Socialism is so frightening to the US. The US has actually inherited a great deal of positive social attributes with regards to civil rights, social programs for the poor and workers rights, from its own socialist history.

  These rights were of course fought against with fury by the Republican thinking that developed from the Pioneer mentality of the old guard, but justice prevailed and now people like Burn can benefit from the spilled blood of the true heroes of the US political scene. ;)

  I advocate the position of Socialism do I? Not that it is a sin of course. ;)

  It makes them partially so.

  Now, for someone who thinks that being partially Socialist, partially Republican, partially Democrat or partially pregnant is a poistion to argue ANYTHING from, I must point out that once again you have shot your foot.

  If I see someone staggering in and out, then out and in the revolving doors of political confusion on my next trip to pick up some Socialist propaganda in Venezuela, I will know who it is. ;)

  HS, if I remember correctly, has admitted before that he is a socialist in a past argument.

  Problem with the 'ole memory aye?

  What I have 'admitted' to is recognizing that all political thinking has both its upside and down side and in that way there are many tenets that I might find myself agreeing with from all parties and no parties. I know that such wide political thinking is alien to many Americans whose political ideologies are often more in tune with the tribal mentaility expressed on the sports field rather than a well reasoned catholic view of life.

  I am for example a very firm believer in National Healthcare paid for by universal taxes and have often stated my reasons why on this Board. I am probably closer to the thinking of the social-democrats as expressed in Sweden than any other political party, but certainly not all its tenets. Not that it is any of your business Journey On.

  I believe in justice for all, equality for all, social responsibility and a gigantic bank account!

  I am sure there will now be a swift Wikipedia search for 'social democracy', the first three sentences being read, then a rapid cut and paste back on theis Board....lol

  i didn't know there had been a major deportation of illegals in 1954 in order to open up those jobs for americans needing work.

  with unemployment rising quickly, do you think that the next president will produce another 'operation roundup' so that they can better manage the countries finances and labour problems?

  It is an exaggerated and inaccurate statement. Read my rebuttal again for a more reasoned and accurate statement than your own! The 'stagnation' in wage growth due to illegal immigration that you note has been minimal and focused only on the low end of the wage scale where most Americans do not live.

  Heart before head again Burn? This is fine when you are playing the saxophone, but does you no service when you let it control other aspects of your thnking.

  Exaggerated beyond common sense.

  This may be true at the low end of the wage pool, but certainly not above that where the majority of a nations wealth is earned. The low end of the wage pool is a place that most Americans, understandably, do not live and do not want to live.

  I am sure if you keep wildly firing that Armalite of opinion that underlines the tenor of your posts, one opinion will hit home at some point. Unfortunately not on this thrread as yet!

  The government tends to ruin whatever it gets involved in.

  Are you speaking of the US Government as this is certainly not the experience of Governments in Europe and other parts of the world?

  If you are speaking of the US Government, then I will aquiese to your opinion, as I would agree that in recent years the Government in the US has tended to make a complete arse of everything it has touched.

  it doesn't happen to me much but when it does i can't get enough.... i was driving home from a friends house trying to figure out how to work out my finances/home/college/kids and then the song "eye of the tiger" came on.. i've heard this song many times.

  this was one of my fave's growing up but it didn't catch my soul like it did tonight.

  i was in awe to the point of needing to hear it 6 times already.

  Learning To Fly,

  I walked in, not thinking anything other than that I was viewing a place of worship. The moment I stepped into the doors, I felt something I cannot describe. It was beautiful, and lovely!

  I am not a believer but I have to say that the closest I ever come to belief these days, apart from when I listen to a sublime piece of music, is when I am wandering in some of the great cathedrals in Italy. There is a breathless shift from one life to another in the contemplative atmosphere and stunning creativity of such buildings, which was of course their purpose.

  first of all i do not want to turn this into an american bashing thread, that is not my intention at all.. i would like to hear americans opinions as to what my thirteen year old son asked me tonight.. on the way back from swimming tonight my two sons (13 and 11) and myself started talking about wars.

  my 11 year old was the first to bring it up talking about wwi & ww2.

  we had an interesting conversation about it, then the subject got onto nuclear bombs.

  Frankie, I'm sure you make up for your stature in BRAINS!!! Anyone who thinks that gassing on about conspiracy theories (which is a PERFECT example of short guy syndrome)instead of recommendations to register to vote, isn't so much blessed with brains, but rather an over abundance of self importance, most likely a direct carry over from being an expert WITNESS. It is people like this that are the reason that Bush served his second term. Gas bagging blow hards that didn't vote. Why didn't Frankie and his fellow blowhards vote against Bush in 2000 and 2004? Because they are politically impotent....and this volatile cocktail of having short guy syndrome and being impotent has left Frankie and his fellow blowhards with the distinct honor of being absolutely politically insignifigant. The knock against Bush is that he is a blow hard, and as you can see from the writings on this forum, his harshest critics share the same quality. Birds of a feather. Any Americans who have recently left the WT, please help America by registering and voting in this years election. Whether you vote for Obama or McCain, resist the temptation to take the easy way out and excuse your lack of participation by blaming the global conspiracy. You were impotent as a witness. Don't be impotent as an American voter. It is your choice.

  One of the most amusing and common events on this Board is when a person crticicizes another for their onlne behavior and does so using the very same method that they are ctiticizing others for. Your post is a perfect example of a 'blowhard' criticizing others for being 'blowhard'. Not that I disagree with the main thrust of your post of course, it is just that lecturing others about lecturing others always sounds like, well....lecturing. HS
