  American Politics...leave it to the Americans

  simons board rules "if you don't like the policies, you are free to leave" sounds a lot like the neocons battle cry of "my country love it or leave it"...the irony is palpablesimon's disdain of american political ideology is understandable.

  i remember on my first of dozens of trips to europe, standing in line to board the ferry that crossed lake chiemsee to one of king ludwig's castles.

  though we were talking quietly, it became apparent that we were a couple of americans mixed in with the german majority.

  Exactly...this is my only problem with it, I am as liberal as they get but I just don't agree with the policy that neocons and republicans can't express their view.

  Were this the case, I would agree with you, but IT IS NOT THE CASE THAT REPUBLICANS AND NEOCONS CANNOT EXPRESS THEIR VIEWS. What IS the case is that POLITICAL PROPAGANDA on all sides of the house cannot be be cut and pasted so that it fouls the Board. It just so happens that 'neo con' propaganda far outweighs that of Democrats and Independents, that is why it was singled out. Could Simon have handled this more carefully.Yes. Is it Armaggedon? No. Who Are You? Strangely enough, I have never met a German who was scared to pass an opinion about anything to anyone, especially not Americans. My experience? Not a business trip or vacation. I have numerous German friends, have lived in Hamburg for some months and have over the years travelled extensively in Germany. Germans have never been known for their shyness! You can ditto the above statement where the US is concerned. I have probably seen more of the US than you have! Just because you repeatedly had your arse handed to you in debate on another thread, try not to become a bitter little boy. It might interfere with the few brain cells that actually produce some wattage in your brain. HS

  My only surprise, especially given the gibbering, uninformed, and erratic logic that passed for an opening post is why you took such offence when I referred to you as a dumbass bonehead on another thread on which you were firmly trounced by myself. You were proved a liar, a hypocrite and a dumbass bonehead, and I see that you have no yet learned your lesson.

  What should I call you? Inelligent? It hardly fits the bill does it....lol

  How Can We Expose Child Abusers - Who Got Away with it as Witnesses ?

  i got the idea for this thread by talking with a friend this weekend who had been abused by a father when young.

  this person confronted this parent about it and got a very self righteous reply back from the offender.

  already a precedent for exposing the watchtower society has been set.

  This is a subject that is very raw with me. I am the person Mr. Flipper helped this weekend. I still haven't responded to my stepdad's email. I have had a couple suggestions, with the 2 people I shared this email with. When I decide, I'm sure I will post what happens.

  I am certainly not trying to diminish the support and help provided by well meaning friends, but if you have no spoken to a professional therapist about your issues, I strongly urge you to do so. I have seen many survivors problems exacerbated by well meaning but amateur input.

  There are numerous professional bodies who will put you in touch with local professional help. Where abuse issues are concerned, it really does take a trained therapist to help with structuring coping systems etc.

  He and Lenny Bruce defined the absurdity of modern culture as no others have been able to. They were both great Americans, though of course in Carlin's case the Supreme Court decided that he was great as they allowed him to be.

  having taken a long break from jwd, from personal circumstances not with any frustration or conflict here, and now spending a few days focused at jwd, it's great to come back.. the same issues are being posted, new posters with same problems, concerns, heartbreaks, eyes opened, just beginning to have their doubts confirmed.....how wonderful.

  with loving and caring people to help out.. i wanted to respond to journey-on's thread earlier but wanted to collect my thoughts and now it is locked.. the internet, cyberworld, discussions boards are a tricky thing.

  we (i think esp the people that come here) are very passionate about what we do here.

  There is a JW world and a world here at JWD and there is the real world.

  This is a reality that many fail to understand to their detriment.

  Online discussion Boards of any type are one dimensional and with this particular Board many people expect it to be much more than is fair for them to expect, perhaps due to the close JW association. This is dangerous emotionally.

  When the Board becomes more than a mere appendage to ones life, it is time to step away and immerse ourselves in reality.

  Iraq war for oil? Question for Bush haters

  i've been meaning to ask this for a while.. i'm just curious how all the bush bashers who screamed for years that iraq was 'all about the oil' justify their view now with oil prices hovering around $140/barrel?.

  just wondering because that argument has kinda been quashed, hasn't it?

  i never saw the u.s. just taking iraq's oil nor do i now see iraq doing any favours by discounting the price.. i don't like bush so this is not a desire to argue.

  I can only speak for my own consistent stand on this issue over the years. I have never been a supporter of the Bush Administration, I also do not believe the invasion of Iraq was a 'war about oil', though I am sure that securing oil played a small part in the plan. I believe a war to secure oil on which nations survive is more justified than a war fought on the foundation of a flawed ideology.

  The war was far more dangerous than a 'war for oil' as it was and is being fought on ideological grounds, established long before the event. It is no secret that Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rove et al, whose ignorance of foreign affairs that are not John Wayne shaped is by now legendary, had plans to 'Democratize' the Middle East reaching back to the early 1980's. What was needed was a buffoon with a gift for feral cunning and with Jesus in his heart to win the Presidency, and this of course happened.

  Now, someone else is going to have to pick up the mess.

  It is a very good excercise in political education to go back eight years in the threads on this Board and see just who got it right, and who got it wrong. Not that those of us who saw exactly what would would happen in Iraq if an invasion took place were particularly gifted in their political analysis, it is just that it was so obvious to those whose eyes were not clouded with an agenda.

  A vote in politically uneducated hands is a dangerous thing, and this is the flaw in a democratic system, it presumes that voters actually know what they are doing.
