  The ICC is a creature of the UN.

  What complete piffle....lol. The UN and the ICC are seperate and distinct organizations. Always have been, always will be. That they agree to WORK together in certain areas does not imply ownership or a lack of independance. Just as the Police of one country might work with the Police of another, though each remain independent. This as is noted in your rapidly researched cut and paste is a RELATIONSHIP.

  You are just trying hard to prove a flawed conclusion that you have in your head and grasping at straws to evidence this. It will not work Burn.

  The Court shall be brought into relationship with the United Nations through an agreement to be approved by the Assembly of States Parties to this Statute and thereafter concluded by the President of the Court on its behalf.

  The UN Security council may refer a case to the ICC under article 13:

  The Court may exercise its jurisdiction with respect to a crime referred to in article 5 in accordance with the provisions of this Statute if:

  (b) A situation in which one or more of such crimes appears to have been committed is referred to the Prosecutor by the Security Council acting under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations

  And article 16 states that the UN has the power to defer an investigation if it so chooses:

  No investigation or prosecution may be commenced or proceeded with under this Statute for a period of 12 months after the Security Council, in a resolution adopted under Chapter VII of the Charter of the United Nations, has requested the Court to that effect; that request may be renewed by the Council under the same conditions.

  OK, I read the Wiki page on this. It appears that it is in fact, a little over six years old - established July 1st, 2002.

  In the manifesto that I received from the ICC it notes that it held its first assembly late 2002, yes getting on for six years.

  In all fairness James, in the future when you chose to sneer at an organization that is at least trying to do some good in this world, you might find out what this organziation actually represents, as you do not seem to have a clue.

  James, this question was answered on the first page of this thread. Look again. As I have already told you, the ICC was established late in 2002.

  lol...Still grasping at straws Burn, though I am pleased that you have finally admitted that the US, like China, Cuba and Russia, does indeed have a vested interest in keepings its citizens out of the jurisdictioon of the ICC.

  Perhaps you might cut and paste the Chinese manifesto as to why they have not joined the ICC, just to balance your argument a little. ;)

  Yes, I am the first to admit that the ICC has a vested interest. They make no secret of it. Their vested interest is to bring to trial individuals who have committed crimes against humanity and sentence them to jail. Any American, Russian, Cuban or Chinese that commits crimes against humanity are exempted from ICC sentences and they have refused to become members.

  This should tell us all we need to know.

  Of topic I know:

  It is almost a crime that Haugland's Master Thesis isn't "required" reading here on JWD! Haugland acts as a credible filter on just about everything of interest in print as he assembles his thesis on J.F.Rutherford and the evolution of the bible students into JW's of today.

  I just do not think there is that much interest among Board members these days for the kind of work that Jan produced. Most threads these days are really just 'upmarket' chat logs, with the odd interesting thread thrown in. I suppose there are only so many ways that one can sing the same song.

  However, there are thousands of lurkers who need information, so your time is not wasted. Information, education is the key to emotional liberation from a cultic environment. I have noticed that some people who post here, despite not going to meetings etc, are still emotionally attached in many ways to the WTS. I think this is due to the fact that they have not 'informed' themselves out of the WTS but have just drifted in with a new style of 'friend'.

  Some of the most compelling essays written about the WTS were done in the early days of the Internet and are still out there ready for research for those who need them. Information is the only sort of support that really frees a person from the damaging emotional thinking that a high control religion, like the WTS, impresses on the mind.

  I am pleased that you are bringing to the Board the research of Jan Haugland. Jan posted on this Board during its first couple of years and contributed a tremendous amount of information on the subject of the WTS. His work on the 'blood' issue is especially compelling.

  For any still interested in WTS matters, a search of his posted topics will be rewarded.

  It just seems that there is the potential to exploit existing inequalities under cover of an internationally united front. And who will be the impartial adjudicator when no one is completely neutral?

  Again an interesting question which further highlights the differences between the UN and the ICC.

  The member nations who attach themselves to the ICC attach themselves to uphold the legal requirements. It is basically a huge court of law operating under common constraints and whose brief is the application of international criminal law, especially with regard to war criminals, twelve of whom have already been indicted and those who are not already dead or in flight have been arrested. It is workable beacuse its focus is narrow, unlike the UN which has a huge and very different focus.

  Nations who refuse to join due to their internal agenda, the US, China, Russia, Cuba etc., are not exempt from feeling the effects of the ICC decisions, it is just that they refuse to hand over any persons found guilty in the ICC Court in the Hague, deeming that they will deal with their own citizens in their own way. The refuse to co-operate. Nations like Turkey, Yemen, etc. whose human rights record is close to despicable, are members and are bound by the ICC legal decisions. Hopefully, this will help them to clean house.

  Bear in mind that the ICC is barely sixty months old, and is very much a future organization and not a present. I wish it the best with its aims and ideals, as I do the UN.
