  Some things that annoy me about the WTS

  i'm still currently a jw myself and i'm serving as a minsterial servant in a limited capacity.

  (a few weeks ago i was vocal about the doubts i've had and the elders made the decision to allow me to stay on as a ms but without giving talks) .

  1. recently as in the last few years i've been paying more attention to the various members in the congregation and i've observed some interesting things.

  there is little else in life that is more ludicrous than a pompous male jw.

  especially one of the elder variety, one of those guys what tell people what to do.. think about it, it just isnt natural for a man to be the head of the house .

  Head of the Household! My experience is that behind every pompous elder is often an even more pompous elders wife working the buttons.

  You are perfectly correct though, a trail of damage has been left by elders who in their newly esconced positions, feel that they are experts on any subject covered by a two page Awake article.

  How we Know that Evolution is a Fact

  there has been a number of threads related to evolution in the last month or so.

  some posters, like penn, subscribes to a form of creationism, which i for this purpose will define as denial of large scale evolution (sometimes called macro-evolution).. even saner people sometimes alleges that scientists are unnecessarily 'dogmatic' about evolution, and that this is 'just a theory.

  ' these people may be recent exjws or jws, still believing the watchtower propaganda against evolutionary science, or accepting similar claims from various fundamentalist preachers and groups.

  I will agree this thread is excellent and far more palatable without the JW or XJW rhetoric. It has impelled me to research further the implications of the 'junk DNA' scenario.

  i heard an announcement was made at another congregations meeting.. the "brother", was publicly reproved.. no biggie.. heres what i'm having a tough time with..... they announced exactly what his restrictions were.

  i thought just an anouncement and thats it, why start naming restrictions ?

  next, they'll be stating reasons for df'ing and stuff.. can i get former or present elderr thoughts?

  The 'Flock' book re-iterates that this possibility rests with the elders on the JC. It is sometimes used when a 'wrongdoing' is public knowledge and the 'sin' is well known. I have only known this happen twice the past couple of decades.

  A childish and rather silly action that dignifies no-person involved, and of course one that is completely unscriptual.

  The Plymouth Bretheren used to use a similar technique called 'reading out' the person.

  Welcome to the board and thank you for your post.

  WTS doctrinal flaws have not stood the test of time, but they are not unique among religions in this failing, though perhaps uniquely arrogant.

  A problem develops when they claim to be the only TRUE Christians on the planet, exclusively guided by Christs spirit, with the understanding that Christ by Gods hand will kill everybody who does not adhere to WTS teachings.

  Under Biblical and social examination they are found wanting in all these areas.

  An examination of the historical roots of ALL the doctrines that the WTS claim to adhere to, shows that they are not the first to have held these views in modern times. This includes the doctrine of soul-sleep, a secret rapture, use of the name Jehovah, non-trinitarian stance, salvation by works, etc. etc. WTS theology is a cobbled together morass of theological belief that bounced around the Westernised world during the C19th. Basically they are intellectual scavengers and plaigerisers. They are gradually as have other religious infants born at that time, veering toward the mainstream, hoping I suspect, that Armageddon will come before they become indistinguishable from others. I accept that these are hard words, but words that I invite you to examine.

  To find out who to thank for the 'Truth', you will need to extend a hand to Darby, Barbour, Storrs, Gross, Vine and many others, some of whom were dead before C.T.Russell reached adolescence.

  I might add at this stage that many would have preferred if they had stuck to their day jobs.

  Hello,

  I admit to the mortal sin of multiple persona.

  I post as Hillary Step, COMF and JanH and infrequently as Venice. Of course I do not necessarily post in this order as that is highly dependent on my erratic biorhythms.

  By the way is Mick Jagger, Dorian Grey, or his picture? One thing is sure, whoever mapped his face forgot to mark the exit.
