jam: They really believe that stuff. I was once just like them. I never even contemplated that it might not be true.

Talk Coordinator: A pretty sucky job
by Open mind ini got this "privilege" thrust upon me for about 6 months many years ago.
i was a hubby, father of young children, service committee member, working 2 jobs and then this.
it truly is a thankless task.

The Presiding Overseer was being logical. He wanted the Sunday meeting to be attention-grabbing and entertaining. (We were in Harlem, for God's sake.)
Still, I wanted to remind him of how very awful many of the Bethel 'heavies' were at public speaking.

I had this "privilege" for about two years. When a speaker bombed, the Presiding Overseer would lay most of the blame at my feet.

jam: In my limited experience as an ex-member, my observation has been that most inactive JWs are still 'captive to the concept' that Watchtower is God's Organization. As such, they are extremely likely to re-enter the organization at some capacity, especially if they fear that Armageddon is near.
We're the lucky ones.

The perfect storm...time to exit the JW's
by Giordano inis this the perfect time to tell family that are still in that you are so upset/devastated/embarassed over the candace conti revelations and trial and what happened to her as a 9 year old witness that you need to step away from field service and the meetings and do a lot of private praying.
you've been stumbled badly and don't know what to think at this time.

Like 00DAD said, TODAY is the best day to leave. So is tomorrow. Get buy living or get busy dying.
Guess what? I truly believe that most people have what it takes to make a clean break and find contentment and happiness on the other side.

What are they going to do to you if you are deeply wounded? Just drift out the door.
I see what you're saying.
It's true that if you never reveal that you no longer believe, you can stay off of their radar, to some extent. This will probably involve either lying or refusing to answer pointed questions. However, you must also avoid engaging in public activities that run contrary to their dogma.

There is no such thing as a good time.
For, where else could you go?
All other religions are false.

This was my 'Sign'
by MsGrowingGirl20 inin my previous post i mentioned that i'm staying in the org because i think i got a sign from god...some of you asked a lot of questions about my sign and even shared the society's view on asking for signs which i didn't know.. i didn't disclose exactly what the sign was.. some of you asked me what it was and even stated that i know that you all would pick apart and prove that my sign was just a frivolous excuse to hold on to the org.. maybe you were right.. so i've decided to tell you all exactly what it was---no embellishments or exaggerations.
i would love to hear your opinions since i'm still in a terrible mess.sometimes i'm 100% this is not the truth then other times i'm 60%....i feel if god was giving me a sign i'd be 100% this is the truth you know?.
so i woke up that morning and organized to go meeting.

Hassan's book is a good one. Here are a few others that really helped me and my family.
Awakening of a Jehovah's Witness by Diane Wilson (my wife and my mother both really enjoyed this one, as she deals with issues affecting women)
Captives of a Concept by Don Cameron (very brief and to the point)
Apocalypse Delayed by Jim Penton (a non-emotional history of the WT religion)
