It`s hard to comprehend most of my peers still beleive this religion is the truth
by smiddy ini have from time to time attempted to contact former" freinds" in the truth ,sometimes the initial contact was excellent ,great to hear from you / good to catch up etc.
and even some who couldn`t even remember me .
some of these people i would have thought had a greater iq than what i gave them credit for ,otherwise why would you stick to this religion .ok i appreciate some may want to hold on to family so keep their mouth shut , but i have opened up to them and they cut me off.

How many exBethelites?
by Christ Alone ini'd just like to see who here has served at bethel, including myself.
this may be useful for those that have specific questions about bethel, but don't know who of us actually served there.
could we hear from those that served at bethel and where you served?

The first few weeks of Bethel are designed for one thing: Break. You. Down.
Total submission, reinforced by 24/7 (thinly) veiled threats. Fear/guilt, fear/guilt, wash and repeat.

How would you answer? Part 1
by problemaddict inso in my limited quest on here and elsewhere, i am intrigued by the kind of canned responses that come from conversations with my friends and family about "my doubts".
these are of course conversation i usually should not have had in the mind state i was in, or in any state right leaving wt?.
anyways, i wanted to throw out here some of the common things espoused, and see what you all thought was a fair and even handed response.

"I left bethel as a serious doubter"
Your description is why I used the term (at some stage of development).
You saw what you needed to see to later connect the dots. At a gut level, you saw things that were WRONG, there. I surely did.
If assholes could fly, Brooklyn Bethel would be an international airport. (Not trying to say everyone was like this, but the ratio was pretty high.)
Sorry for going off-topic.

I'm making a broad, generalized, sweeping statement, and yet I've found it to be true.
You leave Bethel as either an apostate (at some stage of development) or a 100% Kool-Aid drinker.

All jokes aside, you must ask *them* the questions. Get them out of their comfort zone. Don't ask questions for which they already know the answers.
Example: "How would a Mormon ever discover that he was born into the wrong religion?"
The answer to that question includes the Mormon reading "apostate" literature, and examining the religion of his birth with a critical eye.

Do you know what would intrigue you even more?
What they're currently saying to one another about you, behind your back.
"If he's not careful, Satan is going to lead him right into the darkness."
"I bet he's cheating on his wife."

Welcome!
The WT is a works-based religion. Members are required to earn their salvation.
As you continue to associate with JWs, be very careful. If you discuss anything even remotely "apostate", you will be scrutinized and easily find yourself in judicial trouble. Even asking honest questions of other JWs about doctrine can put you in hot water. Proceed with caution.
Have you read any good apostate books?
