My parents were Methodists. We attended Sunday School and church and they taught us to pray each night, as small children (preschool).

Is it a badge of honor...
by 2112 in...to have a family member df'ed.?.
i sometimes think it is viewed that way by many dubs.
i've seen many say it with pride, ive seen those dubs being held up as examples of how faithful they are.. your thoughts?.

Isn't that just sick? I guess it makes them feel better. I cannot say I've personally seen this.
I do know an active JW who told his children that their DF'd uncle is a "sack of dead bones".
Can you feel the love?

The Alpha males in the JW religion
by dawg inwe, as ex-jws should know this more than anyone, as the leaders of our old religion were usually the ones that towed the party line, which usually meant they were dumb enough to believe that nonsense.
the smartest man i ever knew was a professor of mine, alexander kaufman... graduate of the jfk school at harvard, he taught john rawls philosophy and economics at uga.... .
i used to laugh my ass off when he had visiting economic professors from places like princeton, yale, harvard...all the top schools; he'd hold an open debate forum where the greatest conservative minds in the world would debate their economic theories against his... i am still a friend of his and have enjoyed many a beer with his guests, who usually were his friends, the debating of these men was really something to behold.

Are you repeating the Obama talking points for today?
In Elko, Obama tried to anticipate his critics and called on the crowd of about 1,500 to sharpen their elbows, too.
"I need you to go out and talk to your friends and talk to your neighbors. I want you to talk to them whether they are independent or whether they are Republican. I want you to argue with them and get in their face," he said.

Yes, I personally know a JW that lost a leg. His 'foot' that is not there will sometimes itch.

"Life Begins at Rape"- Palin Policy
by SixofNine ini suppose that when most of us who are fortunate not to have been the victim of sexual assault hear the word "rape kit", we tend to think of it specifically in terms of forensic analysis and examination--dna collection, trauma, that whole sort of thing.
but rape kits also contain...emergency contraception.. .

It may very well be enough.

Regarding these 'bills' for the kits. Is this in connection with an emergency room visit? I'm asking, because I work at a hospital.
People regularly come into the ER, receive tens of thousands of dollars of treatment, and sure, they GET a bill. But many people never pay a dime. They don't have to. Nobody is forced to pay anything.
So, was payment being demanded before these kits were made available, or is the story the PRINCIPLE or victimizing the woman twice, by insulting her with a bill for the kit?

More ad hominem attacks? Nice.
Scare tactics currently being used by Republicans: "Obama will take away your guns, and raise the price of ammo by 300%. He's a Muslim, a sleeper agent."
Scare tactics currently being used by Democrats: "Sarah Palin will force women to carry unwanted pregnancies to full term and charge them for their rape kit."
Specifically, regarding the rape kit issue, Palin's spokesperson has said she was never in favor of this policy. I'm not clear on why she didn't stop the practice. More info, below, but it's not exactly clear.
Conservatives are calling the story a 'myth', yet the article doesn't exactly paint Palin in the best light, on the topic.
I'm not interested in proving you wrong. I'm interested in the truth, not sensational stories.
Regarding abortion, I've never met anyone who thinks outlawing abortion will ever happen in this country. A reversal of Roe vs. Wade would give States the power to decide. More than a dozen states would retain legal abortion. People would then vote with their feet, as they already do on other issues such as guns, gay marriage, taxes, etc, by moving to a state that suited their views.

Same old scare tactics used before every election, by both parties. Nothing to see here.

Are there any religions that worship God but do not believe in an Afterlife
by jwfacts init seems that people only worship god for the reward of a resurrection.
people normally do not admit that, and say that even if there was no resurrection they would worship god for the life that he has given them.
a good indication of whether this could be true is if religions existed that worshipped god but do not believe in a soul or resurrection or everlasting life.

I recently attended a Jewish funeral. The rabbi specifically stated that they do not know the condition of the dead person or what his future would be.
Coming from an evangelical background, I was not expecting this. Baptist ministers spend lots of time talking about how the dead loved one is now 'strolling hand-in-hand with Jesus', etc.

A rant about my JW ELDER(and elder) dad
by Champion insorry, just a rant... so i am speaking with my dad last night and all i want to do is bring up the best week ever ...jehovah's witnesses are still ridiculous bit, but i hold my tongue because what's the point he's old.
then he begins to tell me about some problems he is having with his leg circulation etc.
so he goes to this chiropractor and he tells him to take some vitamins so he decided to call his jw friend who sells shaklee and order through him.

They live in FEAR of Jehovah and His Executioner. It controls their minds, making them impervious to critical thinking in th realm of religion, the future and faith.
