Excellent episode. Usually, I feel that the one-hour episodes are a bit much, and I prefer the 30-minute format. This particular long episode worked.

Do economic worries make JWs joyful?
by undercover inwith the us economy tanking and on the verge of a major collapse if the right steps aren't taken, the average person is probably a little concerned.
i haven't seen anything like a panic yet, but it has been a source of discussion with collegues and neighbors.
to be honest, i'm a bit worried.

You may discover what many of us have discovered. Unless a JW has decided to open his mind (rather than repeating responses implanted into their heads by the indoctrination), nothing will have an effect on them. You could literally show them a video of the entire Governing Body participating in a Satanic ritual or celebrating Christmas, and it would have zero effect on their opinion of 'God's Organization'. To the person under the spell of the mind control, no one single fact or error will shake their faith.
They live in the 'Now' and have no historical perspective of Christianity or of Watchtower history. The 'organization' is the wonderful, trusting friends that they can see and talk to. They honestly believe that a person who dares criticize Watchtower is an agent of the Devil.
Just something to keep in mind.

Excellent question, dawg.
Regulations are fine. No 'right' is absolute. I don't believe that you or I should be allowed to construct a nuclear weapon in our basement.
I'm fine with mandatory weapons handling courses for permit holders, as well.
Scalia had some very practical, and I believe reasonable, things to say about the individual right, in his recent Heller opinion.
How do you feel about this issue?

"When guns are outlawed, only the outlaws have guns."
"An armed society is a polite society."
"Register criminals, not guns."
"Ted Kennedy's car has killed more people than my gun."
We could argue this all day. The only person on this planet responsible for protecting my wife and children from harm is me. I'm a permit holder and I go to a local shooting range to practice using this modern tool. It could potentially save my life or the life of an innocent person.

Should Prostitution Be Legalized???
by minimus inrecently, in the news were reports of 90 plus year old men being arrested for soliciting prostitutes.
i believe the charges were dropped.
and the vast majority of people polled thought that police should worry less about prostitutes and johns and more about city government waste.. your thoughts?.

In the United States, prostitution is legal in Nevada.
So, what exactly is the question? Should it be legal in all 50 States?
It would appear that it's up to each State to decide. Good enough for me.

Since you on the right won't answer this question. Abortion
by dawg ini posed this question on another thread... namely burns and hooberus...wouldn't answer, so i thought i'd ask it again in an open thread..., .
you on the right disagree with roe v wade... so that means that you want to redefine when a zygote, embryo, or a fetus has what anyone would rule for lack of better words "the right to life"... .
exactly when is life, human as per your definition?

Wrecking of United States of America
by BurnTheShips ini am almost shaking as i write this for what is happening to the capital markets, this country, and the free world.
the impact of the past two weeks' action in the financial markets, if not reversed by cooler heads, will have irreparably changed the world in a way that only terrorist attacks and acts of war have in the past.. .
nationalizing fannie mae and freddie mac, providing an emergency quasi-legal bridge loan to aig, temporarily banning short-selling on all stocks in the us, and instituting an rtc-type entity to handle the toxic waste of the financial system is economic violence on a grand scale.. .
