"What is this Crisis of Conscience book?"
"I have noidea"
Hmmm
a little background is that i stopped going to the meetings 7 months ago.
my husband is and has been inactive for many years but still feels that even though there are many things wrong with the org.. that they are the true religion.. ok, so what was my reaction when my husband came out of our room and asked: .
"what is this crisis of conscience book ?

... on the news yesterday they announced that president bush had made a statement regarding the elections in zimbabwe, that they were 'severely flawed' or something, and that the result shouldn't stand.
this caused her much amusement.
i know there's not that much of a comparison, but it's funny how people forget, isn't it?.
I don't know anything about the elections in Zimbabwe (I'm from the U.S. you can't expect me to follow events in Europe) but for Bush to criticize another country's elections is pretty dang ironic.

there's a very good question to stump a jw(hope i have spelled the place right?!).
it says in my niv study bible it toke place c.609 bc so therefore the fall of jerusalem toke place approxiametly(sic)20 years later according to the bible.. if you say carchemish toke place in 627,`can you provide evidence of this?
' might be a good question to a jw.
Please leave biblical studies and theology to those qualified or go to university and get those qualifications
Well, this leaves the society out.
Hmmm
its says in a jw brochure(what does god require of us)that ephesian chater x verse x forbiddes gambling(the verse mentions greed).
does the verse actually forbid gambling?.
i think it was chapter 3 verse 5 or chapter 5 verse 3
I think they also reason that the Roman soldiers cast lots for Jesus' cloak to condemn gambling.
This is as flimsy as their reasons for forbidding birthdays. Gambling excessively might be seen as greedy. Breaking someone's kneecaps because they don't pay up might be greedy. But gambling occasionally for entertainment is just that--entertainment.
ANYTHING done to excess is unhealthy.

The battle of Carchemish took place very recently--I believe in the late 1980s. It was an epic battle, with 99 smurfs (the girl was late putting on her makeup, and missed it) doing battle against the wicked forces of Azreal and.... oh, wait, never mind, I'm thinking of the battle of Gargamel.
Hmmm
i have a theory that much unhappiness and violent behavior towards others is caused by people being out of phase with the life that they psychically need to live.
I agree. It's a side-effect of the Federation phase shifters not being perfected, yet. They really should use the Romulan-designed phase shifters--much more reliable.
.....does anyone remember the "girl with the green eyes" on that national geographic cover (taken in 1984)?
they've found and identified her, after 17 years.
i thought it was pretty interesting, anyway.
She is married with children now. She lives in a village, draws water from a well, etc... She never knew she was on the cover of
i've only got 12 months to live unless i make 100,000 ($142,000) in the next 12 months.. do you sincerely want to be wealthier than you are at present?.
you have been sentenced to death.
your execution will take place one year from today - unless you earn 100,000 in the next 12 months.
Well let's see.... a kidney goes for about $30,000 or more, you could give up your corneas for a few grand each. Don't have any figures on the plumbing, but it seems to me you've got the spare change on your person.
Hmmm
i'd be interested in hearing some of the exjw's door-to-door experiences.
i've probably had the saturday morning door knocking...maybe 6-8 times.
i've never been "rude" except for once...when i had a particularly aggressive pair who wouldn't take "no thank you" for an answer.
PA,
That is Hil-freakin-arious! Maybe I should have tried something like that. "Hello, you see that cute girl across the street, knocking on your neighbors door? If you take these magazines, she'll go out with me."
Hmmm
i'm probably gonna get creamed for this but i've made an observation and i need to know if i'm the only who feels this way...anywho...here goes.. ever since i left the "borg" a couple years ago i've been trying to find a home.
i thought i would find it in a group that did not agree with their teaching.
(i.e., apostates or chat rooms where free discussion is promoted) as time goes on, i realize i may be mistaken.
It is very common for JWs to pretend to be ex-JWs and to come here to cause trouble. It is also common for ex-JWs to go to JW sites/chats and pretend to be JWs.
Some "imposters" on both sides are transparent troublemakers, with no purpose but to stir up a storm and sit back and watch the carnage. Others, on both sides, think the only way to get the other side to listen is to pretend to be one of them. ("1975 is hogwash!" wont get you as far as "I'm an active JW who has some questions about 1975.")
This breeds more mistrust in an arena (religion) that is already one of the most contentious subjects to tackle--it runs a close second to knitting; you don't know flame wars until you see a debate about butterfly vs layette stitches.
In an environment such as this, it is no wonder you are met with skepticism until you establish yourself. There is a cold war going on, and both sides are on the look-out for spies.
