i'm intrigued to see that prisca has decided to "come out" and posted her real pic, (even her car has turned up in a post by stephanaus).
termite has said "sod 'em all" with the result that her titian locks are visible in umpteen posts, and li'l toe put up his pic right from day one.. my question (to everyone) is this: do you feel that revealing your real identity on this site is an essential part of your departure from the religion of jehovah's witnesses, or do you feel that it doesn't make any difference to your personal growth whether or not you ever reveal who you really are?.
Since I posted to this thread, I guess I should answer the question. I don't think revealing one's identity is an essential part of one's departure. As has been mentioned already, some people are just very private people.
But as a newly "out" person, I'd say it can be a part of our personal growth. I've also noticed that people who have a profile picture up, even if it's not a picture of them, tend to be (or at least are perceived to be) more ensconced in the community.

as many of you know we just put all three of our kids in school , their first day will be monday.
my son has been practicing for a week, 7 am for 2 hrs and again at 7pm for 2 hrs.
well it has exhausted him, and he is loving every minute of it.

just curious as to who is single and who is not on this board.i have been with my boyfriend going on 3 years now.
we just moved in together in feb.for the most part we get along great but he has some weird habits.he also thinks i spend too much time on this site(which i do...but heck i finally belong!!
)so its hard to relate to him on the subject.he thinks i should just forget about it.sometimes i think i might be better off with someone who has more or less been where i have.

I'm just glad all the hubbub about her getting all sideways when someone posting her real picture several months back has died down. I know how important it is for her to stay anonymous and not let anyone see her true identity. That sure caused a huge war on this board and as you can see by her new icon pic the issue and all the fallout and division that was caused by it was all for nothing.I know she had to have had a good reason back then to cause all that trouble but I guess I'm too stupid to figure it out. Anyway, I like her real pic she has up now, it is a lot better than that ugly Sandra Bullock pic she use to use. Personally I think her new pic is very sexy. Maybe if someone would have posted this new one instead of the old one nothing would have happened. I guess it's all about the timing and stuff.
Combine that with the war she started because of her photo being shown and now she shows her own photo a few months later, that kind of shit just blows my mind and I have to speak up. I thought I saw the last of that kind of hypocrisy when I left the damn religion.

What Kent did was despicable. What more harmful thing can be done to a fading ex-JW than expose them before they are ready--out of petty spitefulness, and for no other reason than to cause them discomfort? And you blame her for getting upset about it? You think she caused a war by speaking out?
How reminiscent of young rape victims being shunned for causing all that trouble in the congregation when they speak out against their abuser. I wonder where we've seen that 'blame the victim' mentality before?
Glibness aside, it IS all about timing... uh, and stuff. I'm either more paranoid or more Internet savvy than Prisca, because in my year on this board I shared no pictures or personal information with anyone until I was ready to share them with the entire world; I knew that one was as good as the other. Even though I recently posted pictures of myself, I can imagine my horror had someone betrayed my trust and had someone else threatened to 'make me famous' before I was ready. But it's Prisca's fault? I thought I saw the last of that kind of re-victimizing the victim when I left the damn religion.
Shame on you for even hinting that what Kent did was fine because she later posted her own picture. "I can't blame my fellow elder for raping that teen-aged sister. After all, she willingly had sex a few months later. It's obvious she wanted it."
I've never taken sides in this silly feud, the genesis of which has long ago been lost in the osbcurity of prehistory. But when I see someone give in to the same hypocrisy that we all decry because of their (relativily) new agenda... well, in his wise words, "that kind of shit just blows my mind and I have to speak up."

What complicates matters was brought out by brother LB's comment. The high incidences of depression among JWs indicate that they may not be so ignorantly blissful after all.
When you never thought you'd graduate grade school in this system, and instead your grandchildren are graduating college, a tiny voice way, way back in the recesses of your mind starts telling you that you've been lied to. Of course "in for a penny, in for a pound." If people like your mother (or my grandparents) can convince themselves that they're happy for the last few years of their lives, then good for them, I suppose.
Either way, those of us on this board know the truth, and we really can work on our Lifes To-Do Lists... anybody got Halle Berrys phone number?

oh yeah , the can shall be opened very soon.. we were ratted on for smoking at the dance club a few weeks ago, the dub that did it told our elders and we just said to hell with it all, we don't beleive it is the "truth" anymore and want to disassociate ourselves.
we told the elders that smoking was not the problem, the borg was, the lies, the child abuse, the cover ups, the changes etc.
in fact i dont even smoke now.
What he did was low-down from a JW perspective, but since the harm caused you was minimal, maybe you shouldn't be too hard on him. From the sounds of it, pretty soon he'll probably be here with us!
