  my (non-jw) grandmother is visiting from the southwest this week.

  the usual family get-togethers are planned.

  my ms younger brother was complaining to me about how unreasonable our (jw) mother is being.

  Upcoming WT article - The Pedophile Issue

  in bibleexaminer's thread (letter read tonight) the question was asked what else we'd like to see from the society, assuming their instructions to canada legal to direct all callers to the police turns out to be correct.. i'd like to see unambiguous declarations in upcoming watchtowers--a public admission of guilt, and clear instructions to the r&f regarding contacting the authorities, so no future crackpot elders could pressure them into silence.

  when i was a senior in high school, the principal called me in to her office to ask why i'd missed repeated deadlines to turn in my applications for colleges.

  i went to a school for brainiacs, and was above average there--yes, i was a geek among geeks.

  the principal asked me if it were a question of finances.

  My last talk as a JW

  diamond's thread inspired this idea... at least, this is how i wish my last talk had gone.. next on the school is brother hmmm.

  his talk is based on the song of solomon, and his theme is: "be steadfast and faithful, like the shulamite maiden.. "throughout history, babylon the great, the world empire of false religion, has fornicated with the scarlet-colored wild beast.

  they have traded support for the league of nations--and it's successor the united nations--for political clout and expediency in furthering their selfish goals.

  UN update needed

  after letting my little un bomb lie like a dead mackerel for weeks, my mother suddenly emailed me with thoughts of love an encouragement.

  she is deathly afraid that i've allowed satan to not only lead me astray, but to be used as a weapon to attack my poor unsupecting family.

  (my email put out the bare facts, two links, and questions about the veracity of the claims, as presented to me by "a brother i know.").

  Repent!... and avoid being disfellowshipped

  an elder once told me that sitting in on judicial committees was tough, "because you have determine if they're really repentant.

  they'll cry crocodile tears, and say how sorry they are, but you can't always believe them.".

  it seems to me that a) if they came forward with their "sin" in the first place, that's pretty substantial proof of repentance; b) if they can summon up "crocodile tears" when not truly sorry, then they deserve to stay in--as a reward for superior acting talent, if for no other reason; and c) if they've sinned, even if not obviously repentant, they shouldn't scripturally be kicked out, if they're not trying to subvert the masses--they should be helped.. what brings this to mind is the recent court case with which silentlambs has been involved.

  Whence came all the Aussies?

  being an isolated, provincial american, i've learned all i know about the land down under by watching crocodile dundee.

  these are the conclusions i've reached:.

  there are roughly 1,000,000 kangaroos in australia.. there are roughly 100,000 aborigines in australia.. there are roughly 10,000 non-aboriginal australians in australia.. of the 10,000, roughly 8,000 are lifeguards or surfers.. of the 2,000 remaining, probably 200 are/were jws.. of those 200, roughly 20 are now ex-jw "apostates".

  Late August Convention?

  i've looked on the official jw site, but can't find a thing there.

  can anyone tell me if there are any conventions in the us in late august (24-26th) .
