Watched this movie on the IFC channel yesterday. It was excellent. I would recommend that everyone watch it.
It is about a young witness girl who gets a worldly boyfriend. Her family life is unstable due to her dad's infidelity. Her mom has moved out of the house. Her older brother is DF'd . It's an amazing movie.

"Decades worth of memorable decorations were disposed of in line with JW teachings"
I understand completely how you feel. When I was young, my grandma had a ceramic christmas tree with lights on it. I loved that thing. Now that I am celebrating holidays (2nd year now), I wish I had that tree to put on my mantle. It had fond memories attached to it. I truly hope you and your family are able to make new, special traditions together as the years pass.

"I've encountered many children who say their parents aren't home."
The potential for disaster with this situation makes me sick to my stomach. It's disgusting and dangerous for these people to be going door to door.

I hate that it gets to me!!
by Newborn injust back from lunch and met two different former good friends from my congregation (i live in a small town) and they, of course, turned their backs on me... and it makes me feel strange and bad even though they're the ones who should really feel bad.... how can i learn to ignore it??.
makes me both sad and angry at the same time.
grrrr.

Babygirl-I am so sorry that they are behaving so badly! 'They' being your former friends and your sister(I read your post yesterday). It really sucks to have to deal with that. IMHO, they believe they are doing the right thing, making God happy. It doesn't make it any easier for us to deal with but it does help to understand their thinking.
I agree with some of the other posters- act happy, proud, positive, etc.. when you see them. I'm sure it's a little unnerving and hard to compose yourself when you first see them, or at least it was for me, but you have nothing to be ashamed of. They are the ones who are wrong!
There used to be a woman at my hall years ago that would intentionally give me dirty looks and act horrible! I started to sit next to/near her on purpose, just to make her anxious. Eventually, that crap stopped. lol
Take care and be strong!!

I plan on attending a variety of churches just to see what they are all about. I am agnostic leaning toward atheism but feel curious as to what others church services are like. You know, are they quiet and boring, loud and happy, do they have a choir, etc. On Christmas, I am going to the local Unitarian church service.
