Me, my husband and two sisters always go out to a nite club and bring the new years in together. It's a tradition with us and something we look forward to each year. My sisters call my husband the 'family date' as neither of them have had a regular, decent, employed, off their court ordered tether man for many years. Maybe this will be the year for them!!

To tell my parents or not to tell my parents...unfortunately that is a question
by feenx ini could use some perspective on something i'm struggling with.
first off, a little background info.
i am an only child and my parents, in addition to quite difficult circumstances we've all experienced, both personally and as a family while i was growing up, remain devout.

I am so sorry you are having to deal with the very hurtful policies of the WTBS and DF'd ones. Personally, I would let them know that I was getting married and invite them. If they choose not to come, that is on them. It's such a hateful thing to shun your child. They will miss out on a lot of happy times. I am glad you have the support of your future wife.

Did you ever think you would end up here?
by highdose inmeaning... on this website, no longer a jw or at least no longer beliving anymore?
i never did, even 18 months ago it would have seemed impossible, unthinkable.
even though looking back the seeds of doubt had been sown for some time, i just never allowed myself to think about them... vvv dangerous thing to do!.

If someone had told me two years ago that I would be completely against the WTBS, I would have said impossible!! I was nervous at first looking on here. Then I saw some things that 'clicked' and couldn't quit looking.

To you what was the Watchtower Socity's biggest lie ?
by The Almighty Homer inyes, what was the biggest lie that you can think of, that persuaded you to realize that they were not who they said they were ?.
for myself it would have to be the year they picked as the destruction of ancient jerusalem 607 bc.. i have an assumption this was done purposely to coincide correctly with making 1914 an a important pivotal date.
in human history, which by all factual evidence it was not.. unassuming and deceiving manipulation for self marketing purposes.

Watched this movie on the IFC channel yesterday. It was excellent. I would recommend that everyone watch it.
It is about a young witness girl who gets a worldly boyfriend. Her family life is unstable due to her dad's infidelity. Her mom has moved out of the house. Her older brother is DF'd . It's an amazing movie.

"Decades worth of memorable decorations were disposed of in line with JW teachings"
I understand completely how you feel. When I was young, my grandma had a ceramic christmas tree with lights on it. I loved that thing. Now that I am celebrating holidays (2nd year now), I wish I had that tree to put on my mantle. It had fond memories attached to it. I truly hope you and your family are able to make new, special traditions together as the years pass.
