Stories like the one above upset me. It is HORRIBLE to not console someone who is dealing with the death of a loved one. How hateful of those elders to make that young man leave!!

Funerals and Disfellowshipped Individuals
by lepermessiah innot to "hijack" dogpatch's recent thread, but the experience he relayed in the above topic struck a nerve and i was curious for more input.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188715/1/my-aunts-funeral-at-the-kingdom-hall.
if there is ever a time when a shred of human dignity and compassion is deserved, it is at a funeral.. i am appalled by the way disfellowshipped individuals are treated, but especially at witness funerals.. the flesh and blood relatives have the right to be there if they choose.
if you are a witness and you are offended by a disfellowshipped person attending, dont let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out.

JW Tall Tales
by lancelink inrecently i was cleaning my bookcase and found an old book that i enjoyed as a child.
it had stories in it such as paul bunyan, pecos bill, and john henry.
while these stories are fictional, i enjoyed them because they were entertaining, and easy to understand.. fast forward to the late 70's when i was a teenager sitting at the ca hall in janesville wisconsin.. the speaker was explaining the great sacrifice god made in sending his son down to earth to die for all mankind.

When I was younger, I was told a story about how a KH wanted to build at a particular site. The proposed site had a very old, historical tree on it(what exactly is a historical tree?) and the city denied the request. Within a few days, a terrible thunderstorm came and lightning hit the tree and knocked it down. The JW's were able to build their hall in that spot afterall, it was a miracle!!!

Does anybody else feel relieved that they won't be tortured during the great tribulation?
by doublelife ini grew up hearing about different ways people have been tortured in the past and was always scared of going through that during the gt.
it was always an unhealthy obsession of mine.
i always thought that i was more worried about it than other jws and that i would end up renouncing my faith to get out of it.

I was terrified as a child. When I became a parent, I was even more terrified of my children being tortured! It is a relief to not have that fear hanging over my head.

Progressive Insurance Woman
by RubaDub incan't think of her name right now (she's a comedienne), but i think i have had about enough with the progressive insurance ads.
they seem to be everywhere, all the time.. i guess there is a ton of money to be made when every other commercial on tv seems to be an insurance company hawking its products (progressive, geico, etc, etc, etc).. rub a dub.

I completely agree. I'm sick of her and their commercials. It's time for a new ad.

SISTERS ON THE RAMPAGE!!
by highdose init was well commented on by the older ones in the borg that the sisters were on the rampage when it came to trying to get themselves married.. it was normal practice for sisters in the same click or age group to visvously stab eachother in the back, exlude them as much as possible from social events and gossip about them as much as possible.
by the time i had left this was such an established practice that it seemed normal.. all this in the hopes that they would be able to bag one of the rare single and sane brothers... at least this is what it was like in my part of the world... what about yours?.

My friend's husband cheated on her and she got divorced in 1993 . She is still single and really wants to be remarried so bad. I feel sorry for those 'sisters' who are single and trying to live according to that religion. It's ridiculous.

Magwitch-I'm sorry that guy was such an a**hole!! How can they be so callous to the sufferings of others? It is certainly not what Jesus would have done. Shame on them. Sorry about the loss of your brother.
