I know exactly how you feel. I look at the life I had before I had my awakening and feel so embarrassed, ashamed and heartbroken at how I was raising my kids. I'm thankful now that they are able to lead a normal life just like everyone else.

My daughter hated me and her dad
by thenoblelodge ini was told yesterday by my daughter that when she was younger she hated me and her dad.. she wasn't beaten, she was allowed to play with friends other than jw's, had parties, always had kids round to play, jw and worldlies ( i hate that term).
i could go on.. the reason she hated us was because we encouraged her on numerous occassions to stay in the borg.. what i find so distressing is, i cannot believe the power we had over her.
we kept her going in something that was killing her mentally, emotionally and physically and all the time saying 'don't take it out on jehovah, it's not his fault, don't you think he knows what's going on.

Most Ridiculous Thing You've Ever Been Counseled On
by MrFreeze ini'm sure topics like this have already come up but they tend to get hilarious with the absolute absurdity that goes on in the kh.
i was once counseled for not shaving after two days.
i was also counseled by a sister for eating lucky charms cereal.

My sister was counseled for wearing a shirt to the KH that had a design of an 'anchor' on it. It was a shirt with a nautical theme.

What books, songs, artists, movies, etc were banned in your JW home?
by serenitynow! inmy mother was very strict about entertainment.
in school i was doing a project about teen suicide and had checked out some books on suicide and abortion.
i had alot of explaining to do for that.

When I was a kid, my mom was somewhat lax as far as entertainment went. She is much stricter with her grandchildren, doesn't allow them to watch the "Avatar-last airbender", Yu-gio(spelling?), or some Scooby-Do episodes-you know how much magic and scorcery those shows have. It's ridiculous.
The funny thing is that she loves "Southpark"!! Isn't that one of the crudest-but hilarious- shows on TV?

Help! Hold Me Back From Voicing My Opinions And Getting Shunned!
by nextdoorgirl ini am new to this board after lurking for awhile (thanks so much for creating this place simon, and for everyone's shared thoughts!).
i am going crazy because i have recently allowed myself to begin thinking (and it is so fun!
) and i am an outspoken person, and it is very hard for me to keep my opinions and discoveries about this place under my hat!

Welcome!!!
Don't do it-yet. Continue to do research and inform yourself about the real "truth". You will see that sharing that information with others cold turkey very rarely works. You must proceed slowly to help others learn. It's difficult to do but worth the effort.

Mothers' Day and JWs
by XJW4EVR inafter my mom died, my aunts and i were going through her personal belongings for my dad.
late that night, in one of the last boxes we went through, i found a mother's day card that i had made for her when i was in first grade.
even though mother's day was a forbidden holiday, she kept that card for all those years.. i wonder, in spite of their surface indifference, how many jw mothers wish that they could participate in mothers day, at best, or resent it, at worst?.

QuestioningEverything
On Saturday, me and my sisters took my mom her 'Mother's Day' gift. It was an outfit and she wore it to the assembly on Sunday. It was okay to get it for her because we gave it to her on Saturday-not Sunday-the real Mother's Day. Technicality, right? She knew what it was for and was gracious about accepting it. We appreciate her and are happy to show her. It's funny, sad and irritating all in one but she's a good mom and we love her.

worst privelege ever?
by rockmehardplace incollecting money after every meeting.
i could never get someone to help, and i was always last to leave.
when i did finally have one person who would help, if i used them too often i got questions about why the two of us were always taking the contributions.

I had the 'privelege' of sweeping the rows at the Pontiac Silverdome after the program ended each day. I was young and there were a bunch of kids from our hall who helped. It wasn't too terrible.
