  on page 25 of the new release, "your family can be happy" the illustration of the young boy being baptized looks between the ages of 9-12.. thoughts?.

  STOP calling JW's a CULT--unless . . . they fit the checklist!

  it is unkind, premature and even irresponsible to label people with whom we disagree using pejorative names.. for example, labeling a movement as a cult.. consider this example:.

  sociologists d. bromley and a. shupe once described what they called the tnevnoc cult.

  membership was open only to women, who were required to shave their heads, change their names, and wear specific clothing once they had entered the group.

  can Satan read your mind?

  i talked to my brother today who is still a practicing jw (i've managed to fade) .

  we were talking and suddenly he asked me if i thought satan could read my mind.

  and he said "yeah i though the answer was yes and then i found out that satan cant read my mind".

  Even if Satan existed and could read minds, why in the Hell would he bother to read MY mind? It's ironic that a organazation that prides itself on humbleness is also arrogant enough to feel at the center of a cosmic struggle of good and evil!

  If he existed and could read minds he would most likely pick a world or religious leader.

  Always curious about this, has anyone ever PERSONALLY experienced demonic activity?

  I read Balsalm's story again and it made me cry. How gut-wrenching for her and her family! I hope time has brought her some peace and the ability to remember the good times with her son.

  didn't they already address this with the overlapping generation doctrine?

  Something about people that knew some of those born in 1914 and heard their testimony could be considered a overlap generation. Which of course adds at least another 100 years!

  I think I heard this somewhere. If not I'm sure they will think of some new kool aide for the r and f to drink

  you never knew about the jw's plight in nazi Germany?

  You should have grown up in my house! My mother read me experiences (horror stories to a kid like me). About the jw's back then. They were published in what I think was the old yearbooks back in the 70's and 80's. She read them to me daily at breakfast. Right before I was off to school to face the flag salute issue. LOL

  Does anyone else remember those comforting stories?

  some souls here may feel i was a little harsh.

  if so, i am deeply sorry.

  i was abused by a handful right from the start, presumably on the basis of the avatar picture (and 2001 vintage).. when visiting dubland, i often find that others start fights with me - for whatever reason, and i provide quite a supply of them - and when it doesn't quite go the way they expected, they cry persecution.

  Wish all my kool aide drinking buddies could see this. The funny thing is I've ran this idea through my mind since I was old enough to reason on my on. Still a question no one could answer for me effectively. I believe every jw wonders about this on occasion

  1- we live in a time where the humanity of a child is not determined by science [chromosomes, dna] but by the feelings of the mother.. 2- gender used to be determined by the objective anatomical, psychological, and genetical differences..now based purely on your emotional self.. 3- philosophy used to be a discipline which sought for ultimate truth, arguments were deliberated, calculated, and worldviews challenged.

  humanity sought to know why we believe not just what we believe.

  One thing though and I'm sure you didn"t mean it this way but....women and blacks and minorities are actually people!

  So when you fight for rights for these individuals you are in fact fighting for human rights. Exactly what human rights are you talking about?

  laughable!!!!!

  We live in the only country that continually bombs and invades other countries.

  We live in the only wealthy country without univeral healthcare

  We live in the country with the most people in prison

  We live in a country that believes in rights of gun owners over the basic right to human life

  We live in a country that has denied the rights of so many yet complains when people expect equality

  We live in a country that spends over 50% of it's money on weapons of mass destruction

  We live in the only country that has ever used atomic bombs on people {we dropped two}

  We live in a country where corporations are people, with religious views and rights that even regular folks don't have

  We live in a country where people regularly vote against their best intrest because of fear and ignorance
