Terminology: Congregation vs. Unit
by Gram indoes anyone remember when the "so and so" congregation was called the "so and so" unit?
do you know the reasoning behind changing the terminology?

I may be dating myself, but I remember my grandmother saying she was in the Miles Park Unit (Cleveland) back in the 1940's.

Yet another comment -- the yellow corn meal "mush" at our house (now referred to as Polenta) was "mamaliga" -- my Romanian Grandfathers' staple. He would slice it and fry it in butter. Good for any time of day, depending on what you would put on top, sweet syrup for breakfast, cheese, meat, etc. etc. for other meals.

For Daughters
by purplesofa inmy mother and i do not get along very well, it's not just with me, she does not get along with all her kids.
i have not liked my mom for many years.. so, here lately, i find myself acting like my mom, at least i think i am in some way.. like her undesirable traits are in me and creeping out.. were they always there?
have i always been like her and was in denial?.

My daughter and I are best friends. Due to her going back to college to complete her R.N. degree we have 3 generations living here. My husband and me, my daughter and her three children. I got along great with my mom, even though I no longer attended meetings and she was still a devout JW before she died. Go figure!

Would/should a JW sell their Xmas decorations/ornaments for $?
by Gram ini wonder how this would be viewed -- a jw or "new one" selling for $$ their xmas stuff at a garage sale or other.
would they be wrong in profiting financially and/or propogating the celebration of christmas?
donating to a thrift store?
