Not to bring everyone down, that's a nice piece of writing but it was written in 1973. Gordon Sinclair died in 1984. That's why it talks about putting men on the moon and not more recent stuff.

NATO INVOKES ARTICLE V - Serious
by Amazing inwhen nato invokes article v, it is more than just one member asking for support from the other member states, but article v invocation means all member states view the attack as an attack on them all.
in other words, nato aliance is at war with those responsible, and will support the us lead, which will now hold not only the terrorists responsible, but hold those nations that host them as equally responsible.. "brussels, belgium (cnn) -- nato has unanimously declared the hijack attacks on the u.s. to be an assault against all member states.".
"it is the first time in 52 years that the alliance has invoked article v -- the nato self-defence charter that says if one member state is under attack all other member nations would defend it.".

If they were hiding him in Florida we wouldn't need to bomb. The vast majority of people in the state would help us get him. We could then get to where he is and either grab him, or he would resist and we'd kill him (my preferred outcome).
If he's in Afghanistan, you think they will happily allow a bunch of Americans to go waltzing in and apprehend him? Of course not. They would deny that he was even there.
These countries need to learn that to harbor terrorists is to sign up for your own destruction.

Amazing, I totally agree. Severe, swift and destructive retaliation is what will stop this.
Look at Khadafy. He was a big man running around attacking US personell until we rained fire down on him. We killed his son. He left us alone. He even went so far as to denounce what happened yesterday.

Is Religion Evolving?
by peacepipe inafter reading the post "mire of atheism" which is a really interesting thread, i came to a thought.
when i first came to this board i wanted to add conviction to beliefs that i was not yet convinced of.
when i first started studying with the jw's i wanted to find god in the world.

All religions have to change as science uncovers things. Like it was said above, religions 500 years ago taught a great many ideas that have been proven to be false by science. If they didn't change, they would not exist today. Can you imagine someone today claiming that the earth is the center of the universe because it is god's creation? They would be laughed out of the room.

Never DF'd or DA'd, although at this point it might be kind of fun to face the elders. Certainly not 10 years ago when I quit, but now knowing what I do I would almost welcome a meeting.

Oh yeah, I wasn't criticizing it at all. I just think it's interesting from a mental standpoint that they basically put you in a "kill or be killed" situation and then when it's over they put you back in "normal" society here at home and expect you to forget about what you were just doing.

I think it's funny how angry people get at her about what she does with her private life. I mean, I've heard people say some really hatefull things about her simply because she was in a relationship with Ellen and now married a guy. Who cares? She's probably bisexual, is it not her right to be in a relationship with whomever she wants? Why does it bother you so much?
It does parallel the JW cases in obvious ways, ultra religious upbringing and hidden abuse are not unique to the JWs. I'm going to try to watch it if I can. It is clear that she was seriously affected by the abuse and probably quite a bit of guilt too, which would explain her mental problems. Hardly anything to hate her over.
While I'm on it, why is it OK to call someone a freak or weirdo for having mental illness, but most people would not call someone with a physical handicap the same thing?

I was born in '71 so obviously it wasn't an issue for me. I am however fascinated by stories about wars and warfare. I think it's because it's so different than 'regular' life. I mean, they put you in a situation where you are encouraged to kill people, which is so contrary to how most people are raised. It's like they flick a switch, when you are home you have to respect people's life and then once you hit the ground in whatever country you go to suddenly it's the opposite. But when you get home, all of a sudden you have to start being nice again.
That must take a toll on a person's psychology.
