The media gave him the Nobel Prize? I wasn't aware they are able to do this? Didn't he get an Oscar, too?

Since when did the media love Al Gore? They make fun of him at every chance they get. Here we go again about Global Climate Change. That is what is really is isn't it? How come we have five days of cold cold weather then it turns sixty for a few days? It is just not the way it used to be all of us can see that, can't we? I don't ever remember as a child hearing of animals disappearing. Why are there so many children born with asthma and allergeries today? No one had problems like that forty years ago when I went to school. What is making everyone sick? The air we breathe is so important for our health and the water we drink, too. When did it become so difficult for people to realize that the media isn't the only way to get information. There are so many books that people write to take one side or the other. Can't we take a long look at nature to see what is happening? Why forests are being cut down? How the mining companies are flattening the Appillation (sp?) Mountains? This is something to get more coal. Like a few of the above posters I can't believe there isn't something happening to the planet we all share. Let's take care of it so the next generation can have a place to live.

Is it possible that we are ruining the earth?
by Bubblie insaw robert f. kennedy, jr. give a lecture on "it's not easy being green" and "crimes against nature" last night at utc.
he really knows his stuff about what is going on with the environment.
he talked about how the coal mining in west virginia has torn down large mountains because they dump the rocks and soil into the rivers then the mountains are gone.

Hey Unc, I saw a movie called "The 11th Hour" about global climate change that mentioned how the earth is all lite up at night. They showed a picture of it. It was very scary to see the changes that are accurring and we will have little effect on it even now. We lost eight years getting started on this lets see if we can make a difference now. Thanks for everyone's comments I just found an old thread that just went through a whole discussion on global climate change its effects. Don't mean to beat a dead horse. By the way I would never do that!

Doing the best I can on the Global Warming...
by Gregor inthis winter is not over but it has, so far, been brutal.
in our part of the world we have seen weeks of sub-freezing temps and blizzards that have left us virtually isolated.
we live very modestly, no 10,000 sq ft mansions, no private jets or limosines, but, none the less, we do what we can to speed up global warming.

The earth is our home. Let's do our best to try to take care of it so we can pass it on the those we know will be here after us. We can't keep saying climate change isn't happening. Kentucky had an ice storm where the power was out for many over a week. Remember folks that is the south. It isn't supposed to get as cold down here (Tennessee) as it has been for the last few days yet it is in the twenties with wind chill in the teens. There were snow flurries here a couple of times. I just didn't expect that. The floods in other countries aren't covered by our media anymore since we are obsessed with what Britney, Madonna, and Brad & Angelina are doing. Let's get news reporters to cover the world again. Maybe, then it would sink in that the planet is in trouble for the things humans have done to it. I have started a thread about ruining the earth. Please share your ideas.

Saw Robert F. He said the rain forests are being torn down then the area that once produced wonderful green plants and trees becomes desert. He said when he was a child he would go fishing with his family in New York and still takes his children except now they can no longer eat the fish because of mercury poisoning in the fish from waste dumping. The Bush administration had so many people that worked against doing anything for the ecosystem because of their ties to major oil companies. So we are eight years behind working on this problem. I don't think Bushy believed in it. We know that other countries have reduced or have no ties to dependency on the oil from Saudi Arabia. The US could do it, too. Maybe in as little as three years. He made a comment about in ten years we would all be driving electric cars and selling the extra current back to companies that would use it for power by turning them off for just 15 minutes a day. It was eye opening to hear him talk about T. Bone Pickens idea to use windmills to generate power to other states from Texas. However, the grids don't connect right now. That is a way to put people to work building these grids and creating jobs. There are all sorts of ideas about mirrors in the desert to generate power, they would also have to be built, more jobs. It was wonderful to hear there is a solution to the problem. Not just a dead end because it will just go away. The planet is ours to use but we need to take action now or we will no longer have a place to live. So what that we can come on the internet to say we don't believe in Global Climate Change. If everything goes to hell in a hand basket then we won't have anything to pass on to the next generations. I will now step off my soap box.

I can remember when becoming a dub in 1974 there were articles in Awake about Janis and Jimi. They were a real no no. I went crazy one day and went through all of mine and hubby's albums. There were so many but I not only threw them away but scratched them with a metal pen to ruin them. I didn't want to pass anything bad on to my neighbors. What an ass I was! Some of his albums were imports from the UK that you couldn't even get here in the states. I threw away the Traffic album that had "John Barley Corn Must Die" on it because if they said he should die that had to be bad. I am an idiot! Didn't know it was about making whiskey. Oh the things we do to keep from being attacked by satan, huh?
