So sorry to hear of the treatment given by the "godly" JWs. No doubt, your brother will need you again in the future, possibly when trouble arises with mom. My mom developed demensia, and it is hard for one person to always go to the home and talk with them about treatment. Of course, if he stated he "didn't want you there,..." then he will have the burden.

Welcome to the sweet air of freedom!
I hope that your husband joins you in the future. My husband and I were "in" for over thirty years, and he was an elder for ten, but we are out together, along with our daughter, now grown.
You are right that the disfellowshipping is not like Christ. You will read many heartbreaking accounts on this forum of people whose parents or children have shunned them for years and years.
Please know that the WT Society is like the Hotel California-you can check out any time you like but you can never leave. They will not leave your husband alone but will constantly hound him as to why you are not at meetings, etc. Family members may decide to distance themselves from you anyway.
Please keep us updated on your progress.

Aren't you glad you don't have to deal with the smirking, holier-than-thou elders anymore?
My husband and I were "in" for over thirty years, and we weren't born in, so were over 50 when we left. We went through depression and misery when we finally realized that we'd given the major years of our lives to an organization that was like a great grinding machine that uses people up and spits them out.
At least we can breathe the fresh air of freedom now!
Glad your wife is with you!

Poor people.
They were the poster witness followers for so many years. Now that they can no longer serve the WTS they have found out the WTS has no use for them. They have been discarded.
So sad. At least they have each other.

Welcome to the forum. So glad you and your husband are out together.
Enjoy the sweet air of freedom.
Now you will get to enjoy your little ones instead of trying to drag them around neighborhoods, and make them sit still in a Kingdom Hell.

How much of the Society's publications just get stored away in the garage?
by donny inalmost a year ago i moved back to the dallas - fort worth area after spending 16 years in the northern california area.
the area i live in has several nearby parks and walkways and these areas have several "share a book" pods mounted on a pole spaced about 1/2 mile from one another.
people are encouraged to add books they no longer use to these pods and to take one if they are interested.. i have been diligent on removing watchtower publications from them and what has surprised me is how many old publications in pristine condition are added almost on a daily basis.

We got some new light out of them, when we put some in the fireplace
Ha! Love it!
When we left, I got a paper shredder to destroy all the litteratrash because I remembered reading in the Awake magazine about someone finding a magazine in the trash, reading it, and becoming a JW. I had to buy a second shredder after the first one burned out!
It was amazing how much room I had in closets when the magazines, bound volumes, book bags, and meeting clothes were gone.
Yes, it was kinda like hoarders.

Why dont you go to the memorial?
by atomant inl guess we all have our own reasons and thought it would give insight to others considering going to reconsider and not go.

Once the curtain has been pulled back, and you have seen the man controlling "The Great and Powerful Oz" (this is a reference to the wizard from The Wizard of Oz movie), you can no longer have the same awe and sense of wonder.
I could not view the memorial as having anything to do with really honoring Jesus. Instead, I would know of all the flip-flops in doctrine, the governing body member stating that "It would be presumptuous to state that we are the only ones that have God's approval," and the idiotic "overlapping generations" ploy to explain why the "new system" is not here yet.
To make the answer shorter, I could just say it would make me feel sick.

The memorial beauty pageant
by BlackWolf insince the memorial is coming up soon and its about time for me to go shopping for a new memorial ( aka easter) dress, i've realized what the memorial really is for us teenage girls, a beauty pageant!
the memorial is the day i spend painting my nails, curling my hair, and carefully applying makeup because my mother says i have to "represent jehovah" and look my best.
in reality its just to impress the newcomers and to compete with the other girls.

Years ago in Florida, in Jacksonville, when I first became a witness-guess it was in the 70's- the women would wear formal gowns to the memorial. I was flabbergasted. To them it seemed normal. I thought it was very showy. Too bad it didn't stumble me out at that time. It took 30 more years.

CLAM - JUNE 2016
by Nicholaus Kopernicus infirst week focuses on utilizing videos in combination with tracts.
for the wtbts, this is a low cost approach to placements and prosyletising.. .
second week focuses on those who are ill. this is somewhat surprising in that the subject was discussed recently in the wt study (dec 15 2015 edition - "jehovah will sustain you") considered at the end of february this year.. .

Thanks so much for your replies.
It has been over ten years since I have been to a meeting.
I am so thankful to be able to think for myself now and not try to keep up with all the changes.
Ah, the sweet air of freedom!
