So it IS true. The Gilead Grads also told me that out of each Gilead class, two will be disfellowshipped, and one will become apostate.
I used to think, "Wow, how COULD they become apostate after going to Gilead?"
Now I know.

when i was a missionary, i lived in several missionary homes (graduates of mts sometimes lived there with gilead grads).. so of course at first we were all formal and nice.
in time, we kind of got on each others' nerves.. and at first we all told these great experiences from mts and gilead.. after a few months, those stories lost their luster, and we all started to tell the inside scoop about our congregations, bethel, etc.. so one of the gilead missionary couples told me that while they were in gilead, brother jack redford told them confidentially that there had been a murder in a missionary home a few years ago.
i seem to remember it was in the south pacific.

i have some old notes from a 1981 circuit assembly.
brother frank bartell was the district overseer.
i am pretty sure its 1981 or 1982.. anyway, in his last talk he said that there was a terrible situation in cleveland ohio the previous year (1980).
Three posters have heard that before, looks like a good possibility it happened.
Wow

this is in response to a post i did on another thread about the borg not having as much swagger as they used to.
it was suggested that i post it under a new topic so here it is.
it's a brief summary of the decades and how they've managed to get away with claiming that 'the end' is nigh for over 130 years now.
Nice Mary. However they might feel they have Jehovah's Spirit, they can't argue with the facts.

he is an elder, and he and his wife were "accepted" to go to south africa.
including airfare, hotel, food, general tours, it comes to $9,000.. have any of you experienced this or seen this before?
i was out of the country for some years, so i haven't kept up with prices of being a delegate.. so, if they were to go without the "international delegate" designation, would it still be $9000?.
So World Convention Services is earning good money for arranging these trips.
Is it possible that the WT Society is also getting some money out of this arrangement?

I seem to remember it was in the South Pacific. A missionary brother had some issues with another missionary couple. He went into their room and killed them one night.
They told me that brother Redford told them this as a lesson on how bad things could get if they let their emotions get away with them, and didn't solve problems. He said murder wouldn't happen, but be careful and be nice.
They also told me that they were told never to tell anyone outside of Gilead this information. The brothers "wouldn't understand."
Awakened at Gilead, did you hear this story? Or anyone else?

Anyway, in his last talk he said that there was a terrible situation in Cleveland Ohio the previous year (1980). There were 200 disfellowshipped and 200 publicly reproved. Witnesses there were making PORNOGRAPHIC MOVIES with each other. The majority that were disfellowshipped were those that had heard about it and hadn't come forward.
So I have this in one of my old notebooks from the assembly.
Is this a true experience? Or didn't someone tell a story to the D.O.?
Anyone out there know?

i do not think i will be there!

when i first came to bethel, the going reassurance was that if you stayed more than 5 years, you would be considered permanent.
many of the bethelites bought into the idea and stayed many years.
however, a few years back they had a test of faith.
Welcome Bethelite Elder! Can you tell us some more of your own story?
