Let me share with you something that a practicing Buddhist wrote:
"Contrary to popular belief, the prevailing religion of America isn't Christianity, it's Individual Materialism. It's a system that endorses blind self-interest and urges us to look away from the suffering of everyone around us in favor of our own financial and material gain."
Angel Kyodo Williams, "Being Black: Zen and the Art of Living With Fearlessness and Grace." p.177
I am a non-affiliated Christian who likes to observe the world around me. I'm afraid this lady and the pope are on to something that didn't just happen overnight. If it makes you feel better, you can blame brother John Calvin for all of this.

Many so-called historians discredit 1914 as a pivotal date because they give a different date for the fall of Jerusalem. Who are we going to believe? Those who constantly change opinions and ideas, or God’s organization, that has shown to be a pillar of the truth? The faithful and discreet does extensive research on every article, so we have good reason to trust them, just as Jesus trusts them. (Matt 24:45)
You've got to be kidding, right? That makes NO sense. The WTS are the ones who are constantly flip-flopping. Yes, scientists and researchers have changed their opinions, too, but at least they can admit it and not chalk it off as "Old light" aka "We don't know what the f**k we're talking about." And HOW does the FDS get THEIR research information? By counting on their fingers and toes, maybe a calculator? Since they are so anti-education, WHERE are they getting their information? Pulling it out of their a$$es? The WTS is constantly "quoting" material from outside sources to often undergird their positions/beliefs/doctrines, usually to the affirmative. These sources tend to be HISTORIANS and SCIENTISTS, so if these very same people supposedly can't be trusted, then what does that say about the FDS relying upon them?
Wake up, people. LIVE READY, and you wouldn't have to worry about dates. -

That's really odd that you mentioned this, because right now, I'm wondering why there are JWs actively and persistantly studying with my uncle who has Alzheimer's and they are aware of this because it's been told to them.

How's it like... living in the South?
by Preston inhere in lovely phoenix, az there's a part of me that's tired of phoenix's one redemable feature (reasonable housing prices) and dismiss the cacti, hot temps, lackluster football teams, golfing culture and predominance of fake people with orange tans and..... ... live in a nice bungalow on a country road, havin' a truck with a gun rack, a (rainbow) confederate flag, cranking up some nice soothing wanda jackson, grow myself a big booshy moustache, wear a denim vest, get myself a bassett hound and sit on a front porch in my rocking chair while whispering to myself "it's good to own land.".
for those of you that live in the deep south... or just the regular south.... how's it treating you?
i may consider a change in living arrangements.. - preston.

Mississippi's State Slogan: We Rank First in Bad Things, And Last in Good Things." Oh, and your life expectancy drops, too. Read that in my local newspaper.

How do JW's arrive at 537BCE for the release of the jews by Cyrus?
by digderidoo infrom all of my research so far on the 607 issue the only argument that jw's have for it is the 70 year period counting backwards from 537bce.
as 539bce is the accepted date for cyrus conquering babylon, why do they say 537bce is the date he released the jews and not 538bce or 536bce for instance?.

I am soooooooooooooooooooooo glad I didn't become a witness!!!! I would just be asking to have my a$$ booted out of the KH. Really! I would've marched right up to the podium, bent over and said, "Go for it! I want a permanent shoe print on my behind!" I would've deliberately done things just to piss the brass off. What gets me is they are always quoting, "By their love you shall know them." OnTheWayOut, you quoted it just right.
