From all of my research so far on the 607 issue the only argument that JW's have for it is the 70 year period counting backwards from 537BCE. As 539BCE is the accepted date for Cyrus conquering Babylon, why do they say 537BCE is the date he released the jews and not 538BCE or 536BCE for instance?

If they don't use their made up 537 date then 607 won't work....
Any date is possible... 538, 537, 536, etc... since the only date that is "absolute" is 539....
The Bible is not specific... it only states the month, not the year... maybe Jehober left the year out so that JWs could make it up!
Thanks A&G. I have only recently been thinking about this. For the last week i have been going toe to toe with a JW on the 607 issue on a bible discussion site. After everything was going back and forth i eventually asked him from the angle of 587BCE and he refused to answer, said i was ridiculing!
Anyway it really got me thinking that i do not think there is anything out there to substantiate this date.

587/6 BCE white dove. Only JW's come up with 607BCE, they would lose their 1914 doctrine if they changed it.

The Watchtower just wants to keep the 1914 date.
You would think the Jews would know when Jerusalem was destroyed.

These are the basic dates we must use to set up the timelines when Christ and his first followers lived and taught the true christian religion and our end-time era.
607 BC ,587 BC , 537 BC,517 BC , 457 BC,455 BC .
457 BC + 70 weeks of Daniel 9 ... 420 years + 30 years or 35 years = 7 BC-2 BC or 1 BC if we add 36 years + 70 years = 70 AD
455 BC + 70 weeks of Daniel 9 ... as 490 years = 36 AD
*** - God's name represents " 7 times " and also 2 x 36 : 2772 ----- 27 (7 Times ) - 72 (2 x36 ). Check my earlier posts on this Jehovahs-Witness Discussion Forum and also a usenet group : alt.apocalypse.
Two times 36 years can be added in calculations.
457 BC + 420 years as 7 times = 37 BC + 36 years = 1 BC 70 AD + 36 years = 106 AD
This timeline can be set up :
7 BC - 2 BC - 29 AD - 33 AD - 36 AD - 70 AD - 106 AD
607 BC + 70 weeks of Daniel 9 .. + 7 times as 2520 years + 70 years = 1914 AD - 1984 AD + extra 7 years = 1991 AD
587 BC + 70 weeks of Daniel 9 ... 70 years + 2520 years = 2004 AD + 7 years extra = 2011 AD
537 BC + 7 weeks of Daniel 9 .... + 2520 years + 7 years = 1984 AD - 1991 AD
517 BC + 7 weeks of Daniel 9 ... + 2520 years + 7 years = 2011 AD

1879 AD ( for 7 BC ) - 1884 AD ( for 2 BC ) - 1914 AD ( for 29 AD or 106 AD ) - 1950 AD ( for 70 AD ) - 1984 AD ( for 36 AD ) - 1988 AD ( for 33 AD )

The same way they arrive at 607 for Jerusalem's desolation. THEY LIE.
