wow....ummm eek.
I'm sure that's nothing an extreme makeover Season finale episode couldn't fix.

I definately celebrate holidays now.
This was one of the fundemental things that are wrong about WTBTS. Where something originate has no bearing on how it is used or incorporated by an individual. Guilt by association is not an automatic thing, in fact it's a very slippery slope.
If you really got into researching where everything came from, you probably wouldn't be able to use anything. Do you have any idea how much stuff we use today because it was originally designed for military use? And I'm not talking about just guns..
God judges us by our actions and what's in our heart. I celebrate Christmas to appreciate what Jesus did for me, to appreciate the family he gave me, and to give of myself freely as he did. These are good things. I'm not celebrating some dumb ass pope, or some retarded pagan dudes ideas, I could care less about them.
Everything you do comes down to the reasons why you do it, if your reasons are good, then it is good. As others on this board say, the world is not black and white, it's in technicolor. Going to church or the hall is not by default a good thing, it's only good if your reasons for doing it are good. If I went to the hall merely to pick up chicks, I'm not doing a good thing. If i celebrated christmas merely to get that kick butt present, that's not good, that's greed. All about reasons.
Oh yeah sacolton, I totally agree with you. I think the only thing I'm trying to say is, I hope that when people die, they feel secure in their position. Whatever it may be. I mean, i could give a laundry list of problems I find in every religous group. But the only thing I hope for every person in their is that they feel they are as close to God as they could possibly be.
maybe we should start baptizing
Fastest growing religous group eh? That's interesting. I'd have to call BS on it without some good statistical data. ALthough I'm always a skeptic of what people tell me, I usually have to find the answers for myself.
Your right, I use to feel bad for people of other denominations, and religions, figuring they were doomed.
Then when I began to think for myself, and I met these people, and got to know them, I realized that they are all just fine. For instance, my wife's grandmother was a baptist. She was about as devout a baptist as you could be. Yet she was so kind to me, and understanding of my beliefs. She never tried to sway me, she was happy that I believed in God. And she was faithful to her beliefs right till the very end.
How can we believe that these type of people are doomed? JW's would have you believe that God doesn't want people like this, that people of these beliefs aren't good enough for him. Even though they spent their entire lives in dedication to him.
Now some of the people on this board may not like what I'm about to say, but my belief in this is a two way street. If people believe in being a JW with all their heart, then so be it. As long as they feel they are close enough to God, then more power to them. it's when you feel like your not close enough, that you need to fix yourself.
independent research by the r&f.
the boys in the writing committee need to hire this person.. .
this is alot to read, but so amazing to see all of the events listed that happened all in this year.
I think the reality is, given the speed of communication, and how much information is available to everyone, the world is a lot smaller, and it's troubles all that much more apparent.
The reality is, this same research done at the time of the great depression here in the USA would of looked a lot worse.
is it right place to introduce myself?
my name is max.
im in my early 20s.
Welcome to the boards, I go there yesterday myself. The active topics link at the top is very handy.
Sounds like your starting to reason things out for yourself, and that's the most important first step to getting where you want to be.
alright, so i'm reading on this site, and i'm not 100% sure what it's about.
it appears to be a bunch of former jw people bashing everything they can get their hands on in relation to jw's.. .
i was brought up as a jw, but when i got older and started to think for myself, i began to realize that i didn't agree with their teachings.
Lots of great comments all. Thanks. I've definately been reading and posting, and I find this board to be refreshing. It's amazing to see how many people have gone through the same things I have. Maybe we all ended up in different places as I see by some of your comments, but that's good.
To the few atheists that posted, that's cool, I understand how you got there. My oldest brother is now an atheist after some amazingly harsh treatment by the WTBTS. he had it really bad compared to me.
I was on the verge of being an atheist, because nothing anyone said was convincing, nothing I read in any religouos material was convincing. Until one day I started to study physics, and well the laws of physics convinced me to believe in God. How many people could do a math equation and find God in it? Probably not many haha.
this was a few years ago now, i was on the work one day with an elders elder.. you now the type!.
& he said this to me me (now i would love to know if you heard this one if its from a wt mag).
"how you are viewed by others (& so treated) is a reflection of how god views you".
"God is Love" (1 John 4:8).
And the WTBTS is far from loving or caring. They are so cruel is stuns me.
ok, so here's my story as it stands right now.
my husband and i have been married for 6 1/2 years.
about 2 weeks after we were married, he was appointed as a ministerial servant.
Yeah, most of my family is still witnessess. It's ok, you'll learn to deal with it. They all deal with me on a kind level, although I never even gave anyone the chance to DA me. I just dropped off the radar really.
If your family starts to treat you badly, just learn to be a bigger person then they are. The most important person is your husband. Your own family under your own roof is the primary thing of concern, nobody else has any right to you.
