the gun issue is constantly in motion..sammieswife.. california gun decision muddies 2nd amendment waters6:00 amapril 24, 2009, by bob barr.
its been less than a year since the u.s. supreme court issued its landmark heller decision affirming the principle that the 2nd amendment does indeed protect an individual right to keep and bear arms, and that the right it thus protects is a fundamental right.
the high court last june clearly established: (1) that we the people possess an individual right to own firearms; (2) that this fundamental right pre-dated the constitution (in other words, the 2nd amendment does not grant us the right, it merely protects it); and (3) that a state government (or, in the facts of the case itself, the district of columbia) cannot so restrict the right that it in essence nullifies it.. now, in an april 20th decision, the 9th circuit court of appeals (in a case out of alameda county, california) has already muddied the 2nd amendment picture clarified by the heller decision.
Good point with courtrooms Beks. But certainly a distinction could be and should be made between county land operating under official business and land used for public use. Let the people decide with the understanding that buildings used for official business, courthouses, ect, no firearms. Now planes, I have absolutely no problem with citizens, with a legal permit, to carry a handgun on a plane. Each airline should be able able to decide for themselves their own policy. Then consumers can decide for themselves whether or not they want to fly with that airline.

Oh I love agreeing with Beks! Makes me all warm and fuzzy! You ABSULUTLY have the right to allow or not allow guns in your house or on your property. That being said, look at the ruling, it pertains to county property. Which is, last time I checked owned by the people. Throw it on a ballot and let the voter decide, county property is their land and they should have the option to exercise their rights. Then I would have no problem with it at all.

But don't worry, it was the wacky 9th Circuit..........it's bound to be over-turned.

Why yes it is Warlock, April 22, 1870....just an strange coincidence??
hahaha!
thought you had heard the last from cameo-d, huh?.
Why of course! don't you know they are written in the "book of life" and remain in jah's memory?!?! HEY WAIT!! That's not a serious question is it?!?!?!?
i was born in 1964, 50 years after 1914. even in my teens i was doing the sums.
i had a worse case scenario figured out - if the 1914 generation could apply to babies and even if they lived to be a 120, i would still only be about 70 years old after they'd all died!
i figured i was part of the first wave of 'jehovah's people' that really would live to see the new order - guaranteed!!
I did to a point, mainly because I was told I had to! But I always thought it was odd how the numbers were cherry picked........I guess that was my lack of faith!!!
this year i owed money to the irs.
(the result of cashing in some investments so i could put a down-payment on my first house... i owed taxes on the "income").
i mailed off the check the other day and today i looked at my bank account online.
Tax Time! YAAAA! beks! long time no see!! Anywho couple of things when I ran down this thread. Gallup poll-61% believe tax code is fair. No duh! About 45% pay nothing. And my beef with with the EITC is that it is a refundable tax credit. All it is, is a wealth distribution system.
And WOW, I agree with Sammielee! I've been away so long, did she switch to my side? She said, "I don't believe the total paid out on the EIC was anywhere near the total amount stolen from that average working family, by the wealthiest in the country." She is 100% right!! Have you seen how much your average member of the house and senator rakes in?!?!?!? I certainly would call them some of the wealthiest in the country!!
i don't know how the folks here feel about u.s. automakers (aka the 'big three').
nevertheless, right now there is a 'bailout' on the table for these folks who seem to have run what were potentially viable companies right into the toilet.
there is an article over at boing boing that i just had to share.
Beks!

Back from vaca! Big 3 bailout, are you kidding me?? They let the unions put the the noose around their neck, lettem' hang. When GM is paying out MORE to former employees then current ones, something is very wrong!
