This is probably going to unnerve some on here or make them uncomfortable.
We always hear, why didn't the Elders call the cops first instead of the WT Society (Lawyers/Attorneys). in cases of child molestation or other incidents.
This video is why and if you're smart you'll follow their example.
I'm not taking the WTBTS side on this just so you know in advance because I do not agree with the two witness rule at all.
But be that as it may, this is by far the best lawyer/attorney and law professor I've ever heard on the subject of why you should never talk to the police and always let an investigation be made through counsel.
This is why in the USA you have the right to remain silent when talking to police/authorities but even more important what the fifth amendment really entails and why it would behoove us all to understand what can happen even if you are totally innocent and have nothing to hide but how things can go horribly wrong.
If I ever have to go to court for anything I can only hope that I got a lawyer as competent as this one
The vid is approx 46 minutes long but well worth investing that time because if you had to talk to a lawyer it would cost you a lot to receive what this professor covers in this. The majority is from the law professor and the remaining minutes are of a former police captain/investigator with his insights and opinions.
And just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that the Elders not call the police because they should in cases of child molestation but rather they better get legal advice to protect themselves so that they don't have to answer for the WTBTS decisions.
Look how many former (ex) Elders we have on sites like this one and others and I'm so happy they got free of the WT but also they didn't get in trouble by accidentally saying/doing the wrong thing.
All of us can benefit by following this advice in the video and i hope you enjoy it and to know what your rights are

The Last Episode Of This JW Life Is Out Now
by dubstepped inthe last episode of my story on thisjwlife is out now.
after leaving the cult of jehovah’s witnesses we learned even more eye-opening things about it.
then we applied the same scrutiny to the book that everything we ever believed was based on.

Dubstepped two thumbs way up for this podcast....it was a great closure to your podcast on your series of your JWLife.
As has been pointed out by others, there is so much we all shared in some form or fashion being in the JW cult that we can relate to.
I know on another of your threads I mentioned about being a sub-contractor for meter reading for a short time such as you had done. I even did some cleaning jobs to help out a friend that was a JW that did large chain stores (stripping, mopping, waxing buffing etc.)
The majority of my time as a youth was spent doing carpentry/construction...and we all know if it was good enough for Jesus being a carpenters son that it was good enough for us
.I'm not knocking it just was never interested in it in the least. I always preferred the science fields such as Astronomy, computer sciences and Technology etc.
But since those "quick built" Kingdom halls weren't going to build themselves, I was strongly encouraged to stay in the construction trades and not go to college/university
The end was so close all those decades ago that it was more important to help the society get more real estate and develop them because there wouldn't be time left in this system to even finish a degree.
What a con job they did on so many of us to help expand their printing and real estate empire.(disguised as a religion for tax purposes)
Anyway, I just wanted to tell you I really enjoyed your podcasts and hope you can keep doing them to tell others stories because it does help many to hear that they're not the only ones struggling with the fall-out from leaving the cult and also how people are finding ways to overcome their adversities and continue healing.
Much love to both you and your wife and next time you hug her, give her one for me also
If she asks why a hug from StoneWall.....just tell her that I know the pain of being shunned by family but that I also know the greater feeling of happiness getting some of them out of the cult. -

A disturbing reaction.
by longgone inearlier today i was listening to a you tube video about brain plasticity, how our minds aren't hardwired, and that by changing the way we think it can make actual physical changes in the brain.
which is cool for many reasons.
one in particular for me and likely any ex jw is that the way the wts has programmed us, especially those born in, can eventually get past it.

The good news is that it does get better.
Think of it like this, if you get too much alcohol or coffee into your body your body will try to purge itself by puking(vomiting) because your body can only handle so much toxicity.
Same way with religious bullshit. Your stomach will start tightening up and make you want to throw-up because your brain is telling your body it can't handle no more of this religious bullshit.
Now when I hear religious music I just tell myself that when I get home I'll care it once again by blasting some good ole Rock N Roll like AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith,Lynyrd Skynyrd,The Beatles etc. (Real music)
Works each and every time for me. -

Episode 6 - Life Gets Dark As One Of Jehovah's Witnesses - Is Live Now
by dubstepped inepisode 6 of this jw life is now live.
it is a brutally honest, at times dark, look into what it was like behind the scenes in our lives.
people don't talk openly about ugly parts of their lives and it leads to other people feeling alone when theirs gets ugly.

Just finished listening to this and have to say it held my attention and I really like the way in which you presented it.
Even though this is episode 6, I have to admit this is the first of your podcast that I've listened to so far.
In saying that, I can also say after hearing this one it won't be my last.
I know we all share certain things in common with each other by simply being associated with this religion(cult) but I was surprised at how much our lives mirrored each others in other ways such as when you mentioned having a meter reading job it immediately brought back to my mind when I sub-contracted meter reading from a local power company.
Also you said you got married at 22 and your wife was 19, I was 21 and my wife was 18. (so both had a 3 year spread in age range apparently)
Anyways I don't want to give too much away so that others can listen and enjoy it as well but just wanted to say I could relate to so much of what you talked about.
I'm already looking forward to the next episode, so keep up the great job and I applaud your efforts and for being so candid. -

How do you get over all the things that you missed? The stuff you can't get back
by JW_Rogue inlook my life is not bad but sometimes i just think about all the normal things i missed out on.
and no i'm not talking about christmas and birthday parties.
i'm talking about your first kiss happening in your twenties instead of your teens.
-
StoneWall
What makes you think we all get over it ?
Have you ever had a mother, father, brother or sister die and someone says something along the lines of in time you'll get over it.
No in time you don't get over it., In time the pain eases but never goes away.
You'll always miss them.
Same with me being raised a JW. There was/were always things I wanted to do as a youth but never got to. (school sports, dating a couple hot girls in High school that took interest in me but didn't get a chance to because of being a JW etc)
Now I'm much older those opportunities are gone but not forgotten.
I now do the things I enjoy and try to experience life to the fullest at my age but still think of what may have been from time to time if i'd learned the truth about "the truth" (TTATT) at a much younger age.
So here's my advice for what it's worth.
Next time someone tells you to "just get over it", ball up your fist and punch them as hard as you can in the face and then tell them to just get over it.
Nothing like driving the point home and if you need to do it a few times instead of just once, remember what we were taught from the platform as a JW....repetition for emphasis...you may have to do it a few times for them to get the point. -

I too sometimes have questioned motives of people that want to "help" others and then you find out the cost or price involved.
One of the things that appealed to me about the bible when i was a believer was how Jesus supposedly said you received free give free.
Then we know about the Apostle Paul being a tent-maker to provide for himself and not wanting to be a burden to anyone. Those things are what attracted me to the "word'.
Then I read about how many on here bought Ray Franz book Crisis of Conscience (CoC) and how it cost to produce books and such, which is a given and yet these same ones would say things about how Ray would respond back to their letters,e-mails and phone calls all free of charge. That made an impression on me.
It kinda let me know that he had expenses to pay as we all do but at the same time he really wanted to help others even when there was no money to be had or made.
I can only go on what others have said about him because I never got the chance/opportunity to meet or talk to him in real life. (I count that as a great loss) The videos I've seen of him all seem to bear this out as well.
But getting back to my point, sometimes even the best of intentions can allow celebrity, fame and/or greed to slowly creep in and derail what started off as a worth-while cause.
I really hope this is not the case with Steve Hassan and many others out there but only time will tell I suppose. In the meantime keep making whatever truth you find out there your own. Irregardless of what the source.
Truth will always hold up to scrutiny. -
