there was once a christian that was attending seminary that felt unusually bold one sunday morning.
he decided to go to a random church that he had never attended before.
he went to the service and sat in one of the pews.
Agreed. But if it is "TRUTH" then truth is truth. If Mohamad is "truth" then Christ cannot be the "only" Truth. You know?
Ok let's dissect this statement.
If Christ is truth, what was truth before Christ came into being? Or came to earth or however you wish to word it or think about it?
Does that imply there was no truth before Christ?
If God was truth before Christ came into being, then that would mean there was two truths.
In your example above of 2+2=4 you forgot something.
That also 3+1=4, 1+1+1+1=4. So if you look at it in the big picture the argument could be made that all three equations used different amounts (or paths) to arrive at the same foundational truth which would be 4.
So what if you took Christ+Mohammed+Ghandi+Martin Luther King jr.= THE BIG PICTURE
i was the one at the meetings who had a dictionary or at least a definition written in the margin.
i thought it was important to understand the meaning of words to better comprehend the lesson.
i liked that the writers would throw out words which were not commonly used to help us expand our vocabularies.
What Is Truth?
Truth is what you don't have to make excuses for.
feel free to add anything so i can add it to my email before i send it.. .
hi mom,.
everyone here is fine.
God supposedly created a rainbow to remind us all he will never wipe out humans again with a flood. But he will kill the majority of humans by any other means? Thats like me murdering someone with a knife, promising not to do it and then taking out a machine gun and blowing them all to bits. It makes no sense.
LOL.. I loved that part, thats rich.
I want to use that illustration now on someone.
i've been called a "fundi" many times in my discussions with people on the board, and i'd like to know what your definition is of a "fundi".
don't google it.
i just want to hear your personal definition.. i find it interesting because i don't go to any church.
brotherdan,
from reading your responses it seems your really big hang up is the bible.
I had similar issues a few years back because I was raised to believe everything that's in the bible is true or God's word.
It was all I ever knew.
From my youth up I had a profound respect, admiration and longing to read in it.
Heck I was one of those that never had to be "encouraged" to read it because usually I already was.
Then as I grew older and really researched and studied it, I started noticing gaps or "holes" in it.
This only made me want to study it even harder because I wanted to find something in it to fill in the holes.
I always felt like the "Bible" was airtight, watertight more so than even the best built ship.
Then the questions just wouldn't go away.
If Jesus was perfect and the son of God, why didn't he write any of the bible? Who would've been in a better position than him to accurately portray what God wanted to be written down?
And yet we find out not one word of all that is claimed as scripture in the bible was attributed to Jesus own hand.
It was always so and so wrote that Jesus said this or he said that. And then ask yourself why was the gospels written so much later after Jesus death? When someone tells you something today that is over say two paragraphs long, how much of it do you think you would remember in 30 years to write down verbatim?
Only after I was able to come to grips with the thought that the reason I felt the way I did about the bible was because of how I was raised to feel about it, did my mind start opening up to all the other possibilities.
If you or I had been born in China,India, Iraq,Iran, or any other of various countries around the world, the odds are high that we wouldn't have been raised with such an elevated view of the bible as God's word.
One day you too may have such an eureka moment or epiphany.
Don't rush it and enjoy your journey along the way. You may discover more about yourself than you've ever realized.
So the other day the boss came in to remind me that he was the boss and I am nothing.
So I reminded him that would make him the boss over nothing.
they aren't even made yet but the talk is there.
hobbits or whatever it will be called - prequel to lord of the rings.
1 or possibly 2 more bourne movies.
2 movies I'm looking forward too this year.
These will both be block busters.
From the ones that brought you X-Men,Spider-Man,Iron Man,Wolverine (Marvel Studios)
Number one is The Avengers

Number two is Thor:
do you miss the "friends"?.
do you miss the meetings?.
do you miss field service?.
I'm a glutton for punishment.
So I miss the countless times being counseled about maybe my hair is getting too long, my tie is too flashy, my being late for meetings, talks about my meeting attendance in the "back room".
I was told many times how the young ones in the congregation looked up to me and how I should be setting an example for them.
Then one Elder hit the nail on the head when he said I was being an example.
An example of what not to do.
Ahhh the memories.
It's almost enough to make me go back and see what all they would like to counsel me on now...lol

I agree with JO. Offensive term. My kids (and their friends when at my house) knew better than to use it.
What your kids know better than to use a totally acceptable and accepted word in the english language?
Homosexuals use it in Gay Pride parades(marches).
People that are happy may express feeling "gay". So you won't let your kids use it huh?

So what he is saying is that this is the merriest, happiest thing he's ever seen?
A vocabulary is a terrible thing to waste.
you know if you look under the word "gay" in the Websters New world college dictionary, definition number 4 states "wanton;licentious"
Maybe he meant it in that way. Not trying to answer for him but this rubs me the wrong way when someone acts like a word thats been around for ages is now all of a sudden no longer tolerable.
