The good news is that it does get better.
Think of it like this, if you get too much alcohol or coffee into your body your body will try to purge itself by puking(vomiting) because your body can only handle so much toxicity.
Same way with religious bullshit. Your stomach will start tightening up and make you want to throw-up because your brain is telling your body it can't handle no more of this religious bullshit.
Now when I hear religious music I just tell myself that when I get home I'll care it once again by blasting some good ole Rock N Roll like AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Aerosmith,Lynyrd Skynyrd,The Beatles etc. (Real music)
Works each and every time for me.

A disturbing reaction.
by longgone inearlier today i was listening to a you tube video about brain plasticity, how our minds aren't hardwired, and that by changing the way we think it can make actual physical changes in the brain.
which is cool for many reasons.
one in particular for me and likely any ex jw is that the way the wts has programmed us, especially those born in, can eventually get past it.

Episode 6 - Life Gets Dark As One Of Jehovah's Witnesses - Is Live Now
by dubstepped inepisode 6 of this jw life is now live.
it is a brutally honest, at times dark, look into what it was like behind the scenes in our lives.
people don't talk openly about ugly parts of their lives and it leads to other people feeling alone when theirs gets ugly.

Just finished listening to this and have to say it held my attention and I really like the way in which you presented it.
Even though this is episode 6, I have to admit this is the first of your podcast that I've listened to so far.
In saying that, I can also say after hearing this one it won't be my last.
I know we all share certain things in common with each other by simply being associated with this religion(cult) but I was surprised at how much our lives mirrored each others in other ways such as when you mentioned having a meter reading job it immediately brought back to my mind when I sub-contracted meter reading from a local power company.
Also you said you got married at 22 and your wife was 19, I was 21 and my wife was 18. (so both had a 3 year spread in age range apparently)
Anyways I don't want to give too much away so that others can listen and enjoy it as well but just wanted to say I could relate to so much of what you talked about.
I'm already looking forward to the next episode, so keep up the great job and I applaud your efforts and for being so candid. -

How do you get over all the things that you missed? The stuff you can't get back
by JW_Rogue inlook my life is not bad but sometimes i just think about all the normal things i missed out on.
and no i'm not talking about christmas and birthday parties.
i'm talking about your first kiss happening in your twenties instead of your teens.

What makes you think we all get over it ?
Have you ever had a mother, father, brother or sister die and someone says something along the lines of in time you'll get over it.
No in time you don't get over it., In time the pain eases but never goes away.
You'll always miss them.
Same with me being raised a JW. There was/were always things I wanted to do as a youth but never got to. (school sports, dating a couple hot girls in High school that took interest in me but didn't get a chance to because of being a JW etc)
Now I'm much older those opportunities are gone but not forgotten.
I now do the things I enjoy and try to experience life to the fullest at my age but still think of what may have been from time to time if i'd learned the truth about "the truth" (TTATT) at a much younger age.
So here's my advice for what it's worth.
Next time someone tells you to "just get over it", ball up your fist and punch them as hard as you can in the face and then tell them to just get over it.
Nothing like driving the point home and if you need to do it a few times instead of just once, remember what we were taught from the platform as a JW....repetition for emphasis...you may have to do it a few times for them to get the point. -

I too sometimes have questioned motives of people that want to "help" others and then you find out the cost or price involved.
One of the things that appealed to me about the bible when i was a believer was how Jesus supposedly said you received free give free.
Then we know about the Apostle Paul being a tent-maker to provide for himself and not wanting to be a burden to anyone. Those things are what attracted me to the "word'.
Then I read about how many on here bought Ray Franz book Crisis of Conscience (CoC) and how it cost to produce books and such, which is a given and yet these same ones would say things about how Ray would respond back to their letters,e-mails and phone calls all free of charge. That made an impression on me.
It kinda let me know that he had expenses to pay as we all do but at the same time he really wanted to help others even when there was no money to be had or made.
I can only go on what others have said about him because I never got the chance/opportunity to meet or talk to him in real life. (I count that as a great loss) The videos I've seen of him all seem to bear this out as well.
But getting back to my point, sometimes even the best of intentions can allow celebrity, fame and/or greed to slowly creep in and derail what started off as a worth-while cause.
I really hope this is not the case with Steve Hassan and many others out there but only time will tell I suppose. In the meantime keep making whatever truth you find out there your own. Irregardless of what the source.
Truth will always hold up to scrutiny. -
If I shared this video on FB, do you think my JW family would get mad since it's about nature?

Hello all
by WhiskeySix ini am new to this site and wanted to say hi.
my wife and i are recently disassociated.
.

StoneWall
Welcome Whiskeysix!
It's always great to see someone else escape and break free of the Watchtower.
When a couple can come out together that is just awesome.
At this juncture of your journey in life, do you and your wife consider yourself as believers or non-believers?
Are you leaning more towards Atheist/Agnostic or Theist/Deist? -

One of the best vid's I've ever seen for debunking and disproving Jehovah's Witnesses
by StoneWall inas some of you know i'm not a religious person at all after leaving the jw's but there was a link on another site i was on and the link was to a pastor's vid.
(about exposing jw's as false prophets etc)being that i'm not at all interested in hearing a sermon, i was going to just leave the site and continue researching some other stuff but then curiosity made me wonder if he truly knew anything about jw's or was just going to be another religious leader downing jw's in an effort to make his version of the "gospel" sound more appealing.i have to admit i was pleasantly surprised at the extent of his knowledge of scripture that jw's like to use as well as the history behind the organization.
many of the points he brought out we've covered here before and he arranged them in an easy to understand and follow sequence.i'd be interested in hearing what some of you think on the job he did on exposing the jw's(wt)http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i3o56jwgbjk.

Nellis I agree totally about there being thousands of videos out there if someone is willing to look because i personally have checked out probably close to the hundred mark if not higher.
That is why I give this one a passing mark.
I knew just the fact that this was done by a "Pastor" that somewhere along the lines he'd get in a jab or two about what he believes because after all he is in front of his congregation.
But the thing that impressed me about it was he went all the way from C.T. Russell (first prez of the WT society) down through 1914,1925 dates along with the predictions, speculations and other outlandish things the Society had said/written with the quotes and documentaion to back it up, then all the way up to the 1975 fiasco and beyond without making it seem like Information Overload to me.
All within a time frame of some 40+ minutes. (Less time than the average public talk at a Kingdom Hall years ago)
Mickey mouse I also agree with your comment about the interest starting about the 7 minute mark.
I like to post the whole vid so no one can make the argument I edited something out etc..
Basically the first few minutes are him exchanging greetings, pleasantries and being cordial with his congregation.
I personally didn't have a problem with that but in the interest of time if any want to skip the first approx. 7 minutes and get into the discussion about JW's please feel free to do so.
Even though I'm not a believer or religious it still is nice for me to see people treat others with humanity and respect whether they are Theist/Atheist or Deist. So the first few minutes not being in-depth discussion did not bother me in the least but i understand everyone's time is limited and valuable.
Also thanks to everyone for your comments and feedback.
My hope is if this Pastor can deliver something like this that others will do so at their respective places of worship to keep many other families from becoming enslaved to the JW's (WTBTS)
It at the very least may give them the ammo they need to use to either protect their family or use to make the person knocking on their door re-think what they "know" about their Organization.
