a "Blood" experience...

i was speaking with a lady today & found out she's been a nurse in the blood transfusion unit at our hospital for the past 15 years.

i said, "i have an off-the-wall question for you...i was having a discussion with somebody about jehovah's witnesses.

i know they're not allowed to get blood transfusions but they can get fractions, right?

"Abstain from Christmas!"

Okay, so but it would be okay for me to put white lights all over my house in the wintertime? And I can hum the tunes of songs like "Silent Night" and "O Little Town Of Bethlehem" (maybe not sing the words, though, that would be too big of a fraction) ... hang red and green ribbon and tinsel on my bannister? Exchange star and tree-shaped cookies (maybe leave the little colored dots off the trees, though) with my neighbors? Oh and I want to give gifts. Maybe wrap in red and green paper ... it's just a choice of color, a very small little thing...

These are just pieces and parts of a whole. It's not like I'm CELEBRATING or anything....

Things I learned at the 2009 DC !!!

unfortunately i had the "flu" friday and saturday.

but i made it to the sunday session to make an apperance.. on sunday, i learned that we are,... ready, this is a new one for me :"...on the doorstep of the great tribulation..." so close brothers!

so close!.

What I always hated was that if you sat like a good little witness through the whole session and didn't get up to use the bathroom during the sessions like the "weaker" people did, you'd race to the bathroom after the session and find that the cleaners had raced too and beat you. CLOSED FOR CLEANING. Use your heads, people, give us at least 20 minutes before closing off the bathrooms after the sessions!!! But nooo, they all had to get home quick.

can we do a list of jw things that go "beyond what is written?".....

or if there is one already...point me to it...the longer i am here...the more i realize that the fds/wt may have started with good intentions like maybe the pharisees did....but they went nutso and added a zillion things not even in the bible and so have the fds...some of these things are minor and some are not...like".

1. hatred of mens facial hair and sideburns (privileges witheld if you have too much or wrong style) also length of mens hair.

2. clothing requirements, ties/jackets/suits mandatory for ministry/talks/privileges....and sisters can freeze there ass of rather than wear a hilliary clinton pantsuit or they can not be on the school.

What about the restriction against eating at a restaurant during an assembly, rather than bringing your own food? At one of the last meetings I ever went to, the brother stated: "Would we want to lose our privileges by going to a restaurant and disobeying the FDS's instructions?"

And because it wasn't addressed above, I return to the restriction against going to bars. You don't want to be seen in a bar by a JW. Never mind that you're not drinking. Don't go to a bar at all, or you'll be interrogated.

a buddy of mine who is still serving and doesn't treat me like a leper was chatting with me about the new bookstudy arrangement and the meetings in general.

he stated that the way the parts are set up now, that simply winging the answers from the km or other study material, is next to impossible.

he went on to state that he understood that the society is pushing for more pre-study.. at the risk of sounding bad, are there any thoughts on a push to get rid of the fence sitters?.

fence-sitters can just be a little more quiet. Nobody forces you to answer something you haven't studied. So just sit back and keep your hand down. There's not enough time to call on everyone anyway, especially with meeting parts truncated.

If you have a part on the meeting, perhaps then you need to study more. But that's once every ... how often?

Requiring a chaperone while dating.

Requiring people to stay out of bars or other establishments because of "how it looks."

The whole requirement to consider how something "looks" rather than what's actually going on. "Stay away from it if someone might think you're doing bad," rather than "don't do bad." (parallel: removing God's name from the bible "just in case someone uses it in vain." Oh, that was a horrible Jewish practice that of course True Christians realize was bad. But hey, don't sit in a car with someone of the opposite sex alone, or someone might think you've done bad things together.)

Restrictions on which movies are allowed. Removal of privileges for going to a movie with a certain rating given by a motion picture association.

Do you suppose all these drivers were JW?

Do You still Believe Some of the Doctrines?

even if you have left the jws are there still bits and pieces of the doctrines you still believe?.

what doctrines do you still believe that are taught by the wt?.

I have some vague feeling that someday I'll realize they're right, even though right now I can't say anything I believe in that I used to. But right now the only belief I share is that there is no hellfire. I am having a hard time accepting that I wouldn't be punished for extramarital sex. I can't think of anything else.
