I could have written exactly what you wrote ... you're probably the same age as I am, in fact ... but in a different state. I remember the little yellow sundress I wore and my sunburned knees the day we got the BS book. I was sitting with my little cousins and nibbling pop rocks out of my little plastic wristwatch that "secretly" opened ...
I have wonderful memories of those days in the open sun. They just seemed so ... deregulated ... somehow. You had a ton of freedom from all the minute little rules, yet everyone was orderly and united in looking out for one another.
The last couple of DCs I went to, I tried really really hard to get that feeling back from listening to the songs that started 5 mins before the sessions. The only conclusion I came to is that any song that is orchestrated in such a stirring way is bound to stir up emotions, and I couldn't help but draw parallels between the stirring orchestrations of the kingdom songs and the stirring orchestrations of nationalistic songs.

hmmm, I have a Wiccan friend and she says she can go into a house sometimes and sense objects that have spirits residing in them. But upon a test in another friend's house, two different objects gave off two different vibes for two different people.
whatever. Anywhoo, it occurred to me that the JW obsession with how much power Satan has and how much he is featured in the religion pretty much amounts to worship, if you ask me. If you attribute vast amounts of power to a spirit being, give him the whole world to rule, and then constantly talk about how much power he has, I think that counts as worshipping that spirit being.
I would think completely ignoring him would be the best way to not worship him ... -

life can be really really crappy and the state of our minds can seem like there's no relief, ever.
But then with time, life gets good and our minds heal. -

Possible reason for book study change?
by Damocles inin my experience, you can't go too far wrong in ascribing gb actions as responses to three stimuli: precedent, money, law.
if two are involved, like the tax implications of selling literature, the ws move swiftly and decisively irrespective of precedent.
the book study change makes little sense.

I just assumed it was a response to "fatigue". Meeting attendance is down, can't get it up through browbeating, so how about throwing people a bone and giving them one extra night off so there's no excuse not to make it the other two.
I also was under the assumption that the book study was going to still take place, just on the service meeting night.
Besides, when you try to cram more information into less time, there's less room for anyone to be able to think deeply. Skim for the answers and parrot the party line. No More Thinking, what a relief! (Thinking has already been eliminated from FS, just hide behind the mags, they'll speak for you. -

I'm going to vote this year, why does it scare me so?
by halcyon insince i've left, i've: .

Since I've left, I've:
graduated from college
gotten a body piercing
sworn
lied
read my horoscope
gotten hypnotized
smoked cigarettes (a few, just to do it)
smoked pot
looked at p0rn
looked at freaky p0rn
masturbated
gone to church
gone to church on Christmas
celebrated Christmas
ENJOYED celebrating Christmas
AND Easter
carved a pumpkin
stood up for the national anthem
sung the national anthem
sung happy birthday
sung Catholic Masses in choir
become an organ donor
got drunk
got drunk on my birthday
committed adultery
committed adultery on my birthday
oral, anal, lots of other positions
what else ... ? I haven't murdered, don't intend to. Haven't given blood yet, nor fondled a woman. Plan to get a tattoo. Otherwise, I think I've done enough to make an entire circuit of elder bodies faint. AND, what's more, I don't feel guilty!
(not even for the adultery, but you'd have to know my husband to understand.)
So now I'm going to vote this year for the first time ever (I feel kinda passionate and personally obligated to), but it scares me, like somehow THIS is the thing that's going to get me struck down dead.
Why???
Is it simply my fear of getting called up for jury duty? But I think it's something deeper, more ingrained. Like voting for someone who later screws up the country puts the responsibility into MY hands. The whole bloodguilt thing.
Help me get over this. -

My Story - Part 4
by Jeremy C inpart 1. part 2. part 3. i submitted my regular pioneer application in late 1993 so that i could officially begin on january 1st.
i knew that my application would get the rubber stamp of approval from the service committee since i had never been involved in any conduct that would prevent my appointment.. i was however slightly rebellious throughout my teens; but it was what i would refer to as a "watchtower rebelliousness".
you see, i believe that there are two forms of rebelliousness among jw youth.

I have ALWAYS dreaded field service, and it was BECAUSE I recognized that talking to people out there would inevitably shake my faith. I wanted those homes to be dark inside so that I could remain in my little closed-eyed comfort zone. Ever since I was like ten years old and actually listened to what the people at the doors were saying.
I never pioneered because I wanted to stay in the truth, ironically ....
My pioneer friend left JW loooooong before I ever did .... -

Should I try internet dating? Does it work?
by Witness 007 insoon i will be seperated and although i will have a break from women i thought about dating web-sites......i don't know how else to do it..

I've never tried internet dating sites but I've heard you've gotta get through some crap before you find a good one. That's kinda like real life though.
I have experience meeting people in chat rooms. I'm probably one of those who triggered all the "special needs" talks, LOL, cuz I met a guy online in the 1990s who I fell deeply in love with. I didn't have the strength back then to leave everything for a 'worldly' man ... I asked him to study with JW and he did, but didn't accept it ... I "did the right thing" and broke it off. Life happened. Over a decade later, I'm back in contact with him, hoping to finally do the ACTUAL "right thing" and date him. I've never met anyone I felt was better suited to me than him.
I think chat rooms and message boards work very well, as long as you don't go there "looking" for a date. Find a couple of message boards on topics that interest you, and become an active member. Pretty soon you'll get to know people and you'll "click" with some of them, and I'll bet in among those people will be several single women who will be interested in you as well.
