Another one bites the dust
by stillin ina close-by young brother, actually your basic, garden-variety, sexually-repressed, 40-year old virgin in the congregation has been charged with sexual misconduct with a minor.
i've known this guy since he was a kid and he has always been strange, in a nerdy kind of way.
he always wants to sound knowledgeable and wise when he comments at meetings, but i think he is bi-polar and depressed about who he is in life.

Right. Those who have "fallen away" are supposed to turn up with venereal disease, drunk or on drugs, single with children to raise, miserable and angry, possibly in prison, scarred and maimed from some violent altercation, befuzzled and bemuddled. Maybe in some weird cult, even.

Unique JW Phrases 101
by Solzhenitsyn inwhat unique to jws phrases do you remember?
something fun for those of us taught to speak an entirely unique and pure language.
there have been posts in the past in this forum but perhaps some have new ones after having kept up with jehovah's chariot as the light gets brighter.

Don't forget about the right-hearted ones "taking the lead."

Blondie, how would you categorize pedophilism if not as a mental illness? We all refer to these people as "sick." Not to suggest that there would be any sort of special consideration in sentencing a child molester, because murderers are "sick" too, as are kleptomaniacs, etc.
Just wondering...

Smiddy, it's a big splash in a small pond. No mention in the newspaper article about his religion, but of course, it's not over yet.
Yes, I suspect that there are mental issues involved with his not being released on bail. I know that he has has meltdowns when he was in his twenties.

He has just been playing the roles in life and in conversation he has always been a bit of a chameleon, but I liked him just fine.
No bail was set. That sounds pretty bad. I think a suicide watch might be in order.

The Watchtower stole from me and you too
by rickroll inthink of how much time and money the tower stole from any who were in the cult.
think of the vacations as a child you could have taken with your families the memories you could have made instead of sitting in a hot bs week of echo talks and propaganda.
they stole so much from us.

LHG, there are a lot of ways to waste a life. I think that a person's attitude has a lot to do with it. Looking at it philosophically, we actually did learn a lot about the Bible, for one thing. Sure , some of it was skewed to fit the church dogma, but, speaking for myself, it wasn't a TOTAL waste of my life. I now recognize some of the earmarks of a con in action. I have a sense for when I'm dealing with a petty bureaucrat. We have all learned from the experience somehow.
But, yeah, there are better ways to learn the same lessons.

"Do you believe that the 'faithful slave' is God's channel of communication?"
by The Fall Guy inif a jw had the nerve to ask me this question, i'd say to them, "you go first.
using only scriptural proof, show me why you believe that the wtbts/ccojw is god's choice and i'll tell you if i agree with your scriptural reasoning.".
wait for the silence and the rabbit in the headlights moment.. i searched on the wt cd rom for references of "channel of communication.".

If the FDS is God's channel of communication, God is playing some really funny games with us.

Broadcasting move part 2
by Gorbatchov ini think this is not an unimportant observation.. with the move of the broadcasting channel to the library part of jw.org the broadcasting are away from the general public.
so the obscure gb video's about strange mathers are not out to the open anymore with a simple click to tv.jw.org.
only the rank and file will find them easily.. i think this was the objective of the change.. g..

The broadcasts may have begun to have a segment for the 'in crowd." They did that when they came out with the Study Edition of the Watchtower. The rank and file had superior, inside knowledge that was not readily available to the public unless they came to meetings.
But we know a lot of things that they don't know that are of even greater importance than the silly little things in their broadcasts or Watchtowers.
