Oh! Oh! What was that Woody Allen movie- I think it was Love & Death- that had that hilarious Russian skit for the troops so they wouldn't contract std! "Oh look, what is this here on my lip?" ROFL just like the wooden dramas!

Is it the JW's or the God of the bible you no longer believe?
by reniaa ini have a question for the ex-jw's on this forum after months of reading the forum..... many say how good it is to be free of the oppressiveness of the jw's that they can now enjoy the freedom to... have sex, celebrate christmas, gamble, embrace politics etc.
there are still biblical scriptures and principles in place that if you still followed the bible would mean you avoid these things and yet these are now embraced as one of the perks of no longer being a jw so in my confusion i ask.... if these are what you want, isn't it more correct to say you no longer follow the bible as apposed to just the jw's?.

Eyes Open,
I tried to read that steven McKenzie book but I'm not sure how to download it. It sounds quite interesting.
Reniaa,
I forgot to answer your question! (Thank you for answering mine.) This may sound strange, but even when I was immersed in the JWs- and I was quite immersed- I never really could bring myself to believe in the bible! Lol the opposite of most everyone else here!
I was very uncomfortable reading the bible because it was such a violent, gory book- when it wasn't really, really boring. Whenever I studied with people I always turned their attention back to the publications because those made sense to me. I couldn't answer their questions about why god permits suffering because nobody could explain it to me sufficiently for it to make sense. But boy could I debate the
trinity, or hellfire, or the gentile times and such. I still have my original Truth book from 1968- I loved that book from the time I was 8 years old. And I really loved the religion. It was the bible that embarrassed me. -

Hi Renniaa,
I believe you are an honest person and would tell the truth. Could you please answer me this question: Does your congregation consider you an active publisher?
Thanks.

I like to use the "Safeway test'. I count the number of dubs who pass me in the aisles and pretend they didn't recognize me, and compare it with the number who say hi how are you. If it's about even, it's status quo.
Someone stopped their cart and talked with me for a while just a few days ago, so I'd say anything that has changed with your mother is most likely regional- maybe the CO or local PO has an ax to grind about it and is bringing it up a lot.

Unitarians?
by dogisgod ini've been invited to "visit" the unitarinan church tomorrow am.
what do you guys think?

From adherents.com:
One of the most over-represented religious groups among U.S. presidents is Unitarianism. Despite merging with Universalism in the 1960s, the combined proportion of Unitarian Universalists in the U.S. population is just 0.2% of the population (one in every 500 Americans). Yet there have been 4 Unitarian presidents.
Namely John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Millard Fillmore, and William Howard Taft.

Is this normal?!
by Lo ini'm one of those ones who drifted away before getting to heavily in...thank god...but upon arrival in my new house i found a letter, a hand written letter in my letterbox from a local witness saying they had called around a few times and no one had been in, had a special message etc etc and gave an address which is a kingdom hall should the residents wish to contact her.
is it usual to write such a long hand written letter??
i think it's a bit strange.

I was one of those weirdos that loved to write letters!
Pioneering meant lots of NHs- very boring. I used to enjoy rounding out my 90 hours by actually expressing myself in a letter (I didn't copy them, each one was original). I liked to think that some lonely or grieving person might read one and feel better. <sigh> Guess I was a dreamer...
