Iarc, then I may have to pull you into my cult. I figure, Jesus and Moses didnt even exist and they got some pretty big cults. The JWs dont have psychology degrees and they run a pretty damned big cult. How much more can someone who consciously knows all of these techniques and why they work.

The size of the letters isnt the point. The letters are perfectly designed to be seen easily from the bridge. Make them too large and the message cannot be read by the passing motorist. I have been there and seen them. It gets the msg across perfectly.

Yes it is something out of nothing.
Why? Because the inference is that somehow by the position of those signs, they demonstrate their lack of appreciation of the bible. But the angle the picture is taken at tells only part of the story. The Read Gods Word The bible sign was placed so that it could be seen from the traffic. So that cars would see it ....hundreds of thousands daily probably, as they drove into the city. This was point out by both myself and Mike Musto.
If you are really trying to "get something on the watchtower" then get something real and dont waste your time whining about every little thing that they do, especially those things that are not bad. We can disagree with them on things that are truly disagreeable and not act like children in regards to every tiny nuance.

Notice the completely irrational point of view of most in this thread. Few have addressed the points the person brough up. Instead they have called him names, accused him of being someone else, and then generally insulted him.
Iarc seems pretty cool. He may or may not be a professor. If he said so I will take his word for it. Being a professor does not automatically mean that he is either better at arguing than someone else (I could argue most professors into the ground and I have no degree) or that he has better facts in hand on the topic Euta addressed.
It does seem from the threads I have read however that Iarc is well equipped. I like his style and his post. I am merely saying that simply because one is up against another of higher caliber, does not mean that the lesser is wrong in their viewpoint. I myself use Argumentum Ad Blarney. I will define that sometime for yous. But right now I have to blast some aliens that are coming up my lawn.

Without disputing your experience, there are plenty of explanations for such things short of demons. It is a well known fact for instance that the dead are able to interact with the living in very limited ways. Because of this they often seem angry. An example would be a child, an infant. Trying to get your attention, speaking to you, she wants milk. But you do not give her milk. She tells you numerous times. Finally she chides you by crying. Ghosts, not demons, have been demontrated to do this very thing multiple times. In fact even Samuel came up from the grave in the bible to answer a question. He was so mad at Saul that he gave saul some misleading information.
Science has proven that demons rarely interact with humans. Ghosts on the other hands, being humans really, interact with humans all the time.

my mother and stepfather (she's a jw, he is not) have been having some marital problems of late and instead of seeking out the advice of a marriage counselor or some similar specialist in the field, they have chosen to seek help through one of the elders in her congregation.
i'm completely surprised by this, yet i know i shouldn't be.

Ok I forget what kind of Falacious arguement this is. But it boils down to not providing all of the facts.
If you have been in New York City, and been at that location, you know that the sign "Read Gods Word the Bible Daily" is displayed at the best vantage point for those on the highway. They cannot be craning their necks up to see the watchtower sign. But can see the bible sign clearly and easily. I know I've been there.
A picture displayed from one angle like that is very misleading..
As I said in another post recently ex witnesses use the same tactics as the active witnesses. One of those tactics is misleading information.
Further assuming it was on top, does not mean it is more or less important than another. That is a pentacostal arguement I heard for years. The bible couldnt go on the floor. Then it couldnt be under anything. Even if it is inspired from god, do we have to go to such silly extremes?

Because the entire world is laying in the hands of the wicked one. Whereas refreshing waters of life of truth are to be found in Jehovah's Visible Organization.

Another point. I am glad you posted because it got me thinking about something else.
I see so many people here chiding the witnesses for merely being here. Threatening them. Insisting that they leave. That they are not allowed to be here.
AHHHHHHHHH!
That is TYPICAL JW thinking. That is NOT the thinking of the average person. So when an ex tells me that they are an ex but continues giving people a hassle for reading or posting in this forum are they really an ex?
And the excuse that, well they could be DFed for being here, isnt it true that one of our greatest objections to JWs is the practice of shunning. Especially the manner in which it is practiced? So then why should we even infer someone would or should be dfed for being here. We should welcome them here. Argue and debate with them. Tell them what is on our minds. But GET THE DUB BLOOD out of our veins if we are going to continue to tell them how bad they are.
