It's worth remembering that bible Greek is VERY, VERY old. I tried reciting John 1:1 to a Greek lady I know, and my pronunciation isn't so bad, but she didn't understand. She did seem to recognize it was from the bible, though. I tried it with a young man and it went right over his head. Imagine quoting a passage from Canterbury Tales to someone. It'd be barely intelligible.

It was all GREEK to me
by Terry inaround 1976 i got the wild idea i'd like to learn greek (for my study of the christian greek scriptures and to 'get to the bottom' of whether i was wasting my time being even a token jehovah's witness.
) i would read the actual text and avoid my denomination's opinion commentaries, you see.. .
i learned the characters in the greek alphabet rather quickly and started reading an interlinear (english/greek) bible aloud - practicing my enunciation.

Start by investigating the FISA warrants. Someone knowingly signed a fraudulent warrant application (maybe several times). That has to be a serious enough crime to go away for the rest of one's life. That person will flip. Comey has already admitted in public testimony that he leaked conversations between himself (FBI director) and the president. Those memos were, I believe, later classified by the NSA as confidential (or perhaps it was Top Secret, I don't recall the specifics) A special prosecutor will have those two people (Comey and whoever signed those FISA warrant applications) facing bankruptcy and life in jail in no time (a la Michael Flynn). They will talk and it will begin to unravel. Though getting proof that Obama was involved will be difficult. Hillary was given immunity for her mishandling of classified information. Not sure how easy it will be to get her on lesser charges, but, at a minimum, making her talk now under oath, along with her aides, will expose her to perjury. If she tells the truth, she'll be exposed as having lied and committed egregious acts as Secretary of State. If she lies under oath, she can finally be prosecuted. And if she tells the truth, she'll likely expose others (maybe Obama?) to serious jail time. Those people will likely turn on her with evidence of crimes not covered by her immunity agreement. Let the investigations begin!

Thinking about the end of the Watchtower
by JeffT infirst, a word about the watchtower’s financial position: nobody (outside the watchtower organization) knows.
the wtbs is not required to disclose its finances, and doesn’t.
we can speculate, but that is all we are doing.

Don't forget the WT is a religion formed from the remnants of people who had been followers of Miller. Christians from many denominations really expected Christ's return in 1843 and 1844. When that movement fell apart people reorganized into several religions which are still with us today. When (if) the JWs fall apart, they'll likely just come back in another (or more than one) incarnation. There really is nothing new under the sun, I'm afraid.

Will gay marriage hurt freedom of religion?
by jam insorry if this have been posted before.. but in my local newspaper today an interesting article.. red blue america... the first amendment and same-sex marriage cannot coexist harmoniously.
something will have to give---and it will start with the freedom of conscience.. here's why: if the law says there can be no "rational basis" for treating the union between a man and a woman as something unique-if a union between any two(or,perhaps someday, more) consenting adults is a "marriage"----then it really doesn't matter what your conscience tells you.. we don't prosecute people for holding unpopular beliefs--yet- but the authorities do look askance at discrimination.
that's why we hear so much lately about caterers, photographers and florists running afoul of several states' civil rights laws for refusing to do business with gay couples.. it's only a matter of time before what we understand as "freedom of religion" is whittled down to little more than the freedom to worship whatever deity you choose in a special building one day out of the week.. this is not the entire article, just a few key points.

Yes, down with any religion that doesn't respect all people and treat them fairly! Who decides what is fair and respectful behavior? I guess the government will let us know what religions, civic groups and voluntary organizations deserve first amendment protection. Comatose, I hope you manage to keep up with all government-sponsored thinking. Hate to see you in a re- education camp.

Sadly, the high infant mortality rate won't likely be affected by any healthcare initiative. See the reason.com article at the link below to see how Americans' lifestyle choices lead to dangerously low birthweights. Unfortunately, even the most advanced medical technology, such as we have in this country, isn't able to save a large percentage of such infants. One quote from the article...
In a 2007 study for the National Bureau of Economic Research, economists June O'Neill and Dave O'Neill noted that "a multitude of behaviors unrelated to the health care system such as substance abuse, smoking and obesity" are connected "to the low birth weight and preterm births that underlie the infant death syndrome."
