No they are not. That is one of a hundred and one urban legends set against Global Warming. The article from Skeptical Science linked below addresses that notion. In brief though, the sun has been relatively cool since the 1970s and got cooler still in 2002 with reduced sunspot activity so what the Hades would be warming up the planets?

By the looks of things it will probably be 2020 with a possibility that this type of Arctic phenomenom (Not previously taken into account in the calculations.) will accelerate meltdown even quicker.

As more and more of the Arctic Ocean is exposed by the melting ice the weather is going to be altered even more than what we're seeing now. This will damage crops throughout the Northern Hemisphere. Canada already has suffered extensive damage to its crops due to heaving rains (The warmer the oceans get the more they evaporate turning into more precipitation.).

The change from Global Warming to Climate Change

As I've posted repeatedly on other threads, Global Warming and Climate Change have been used for decades but it was recently that a change occurred.

This change shows the psychopathic nature of conservative propagandists who are always accusing others of what they themselves are eternally guilty of.

You see, it was a Republican by the name of Frank Luntz who advised the Bush administration to change over from the term Global Warming to the phrase Climate Change. The reason was because he thought that GW was too alarming but CC was a milder, more watered down term.

Frank Luntz is identified in Wikipedia as a "wordsmith" who advises corporations on how to change their image by the judicious choice of words. He is known as having given the phrase "Orwellian" a positive spin, claiming that it refers to "clear thinking". You can see this word-monger (I prefer "mindf**ker") in action in the following videotape, bragging about his Machiavellian prowess in having changed Global Warming to Climate Change.

To no one's surprise, he is a common guest on Fox News.

Fortunately, this name change backfired on him since there is a valid reason for the phrase Climate Change.

This temperature anomaly image was for December. Take a good look at East Canada and see, according to the temperature bar, that it is mostly 11.1 degrees Centigrade (20 Fahrenheit) above average. It is the extremely warm weather in the whole Arctic region that is pushing the frigid polar air southwards. In other words, there is no cooling off of the Earth but a transfer of heat and cold. Look at the map above, focusing on the polar regions and those areas immediately south to it, and then think of it as a flip flop of temperatures.

The reason the Arctic has been much warmer in the first place is because Global Warming has been shrinking the ice cap for the past 30 years exposing ocean water that's never been exposed before. It then soaks up extra heat from the sun during the summer (Dark blue water absorbs sunlight; ice reflects it). The ocean then fails to freeze completely during the winter and it releases heat during the winter. Therefore, the effect you're seeing.

People are so egocentric that they think what's happening in their back yard is happening everywhere. Sorry people but you live on planet Earth, not a territorial abstraction called "Ontario"; the United States; etc.

First off coffee, it is Lindzen with a d. Second, if you have bothered to read websites like www.skepticalscience.com you will find that his articles are invariably wrong and always shot down on methodology by other scientists. Example:

If you care to look deeper into Richard Lindzen you will find that he displays the basic traits that anti Global Warming cranks have in common. He's a fundamentalist Christian and a Conservative. He's the type of person who says that Exxon Mobil is a disciplined company.

People like him make up the 3% of climate scientists who cling to their ideas that man made Global Warming is part of some diabolical master plan to subjugate Christianity, Patriotism and apple pie. There will always be an irreducible minimum of quack scientists and cranks like the physicist who denied E=MC2; the geologist who denied continental drift etc.

People like Lindzen basically prostitute their profession to their ideology.
