I served as an MS for 8 years and a pioneer for 7. I was a step from being an elder till I discovered the truth about the "truth".

Why is it so hard for Ex-JWs to make that "final step" and give up Christianity?
by sabastious ini'm not sure if it's just denial on a lot of people's part, but the reason the jws doctrine is so wacky and controlling is because they are among the few religions that really try to follow the bible!.
the bible is the culprit here in actuality, but even after someone has "wizened up" to the misguided teachings of jehovah's witnesses they still hold the bible as inspired word of god.. why don't you believe that the governing body was chosen as the faithful and discreet slave in 1918?
because the only real evidence to that fact is that they say so.

Sixscreensofthewatchtower
by Piercingtheveil81 ini was just reading an email from rick fearon about the conference call this saturday.
i'm starting to think that some things they say are a bunch of crap.
they seem too stuck in the past and can;t seem to let go.

Broken Promises, I agree with you about CoC and those sites that presented things in a factual straightforward manner. Since I felt I had been pulled in by Watchtower sensationalizing things I was somewhat hesitant about just believing whatever things where said about the organization if it didn't have real proof.
Regarding Rick fearon's site, it is rather creepy. Although there is some interesting things there, I don't necessarily believe all of it.

They seem too stuck in the past and can;t seem to let go. Nowadays I rarely think about the JW's. If people want to continue believing in the Society and continue to be decieved that their own damn fault just like it was mine.
While I am all for letting JW's know the realities of the watchtower's false reasonings and their effect, some former witnesses are getting on my nerves by sensationalizing the hell out of some issues. While the WTS difinitely has its problems so do many others.
Does anyone else agree with me?

AGuest? Whhhaaat The Heck!
While I do believe in the direction of God, and that it can come in various forms, why do Christians always want to have a "Paul" experience?

For people who use the OT to try and prove that God is an awful tyrant...
by tec inthe people in the ot made mistakes about what god wanted and expected from them.
some of the laws that were given were in place because they were too hard-hearted to accept anything more merciful.
jesus clearly states this:.

I just wanted to add, that I don't believe that all the Laws found in the current torah are truly in their original form due to apparent contradictions of justice and even logic in some cases.

This is an interesting thread. I can appreciate you comments Tec. Although, I don't believe that the gospel accounts are reliable historical documents of what Jesus really taught. In fact, the verse you quoted from John 8 regarding the stoning of an adulteress, is found to be a later insertion by the church since the account is not contained in the oldest manuscripts.
The point is, I accept God on His terms and I believe the divine Laws revealed by Him to the prophet Moses, peace be upon him, were wholly good and pure, and not a curse as Paul would have us believe. Christianity softened the worship and concept of God down to such a degree so as to attain more converts. Because of that we see a major difference in the personality of God in the OT compared with the NT. This is why Marcion in the second century proposed that the God of the old testament was not really the true God at all but was a devil. Jesus, he believed, was the true God who came to bring the true light. I don't agree with him, but it just goes to show you that this apparent difference is confusing and strange to say the least.
I'm an ExJW Muslim by the way.

Ex-Jehovah's Witness Survey...
by Tuesday inhey everyone.
another idea came to me tonight while discussing the pew forum survey about how only 37% of jehovah's witnesses remain in the religion from childhood.
the recent watchtower article where it says the majority of people who leave the religion do so in order to commit sin was brought up predictably.
