i find this alarming because jones was very outspoken and had great guests on discussing topics most other media outlets wouldn't go near.. the fact that many have restricted him access to their medium what does this say on our freedoms of speech?.

I went to the county courthouse a few months ago and there were three JWs sitting with a magazine rack. They looked ridiculous and no one stopped to ask them for a pamphlet. I just giggled as I went by.
I've had two home visits by the same group come to my home in the last 6 months. I am sure my Mother has called and told the locals where I live and I need Spiritual Guidance. Luckily I have a Ring Doorbell and can watch them stand and squirm and talk to each other while they know I won't answer. Dummies.

My family sent me the letters they sent to Russian officials begging them not to ban the JWs. They also sent me emails telling me this was proof of the Great Tribulation. This just feeds into their belief that the end is near and the "System is Ending". Those words get used a lot in conversations...Ugh.
This will make their paranoia worse.

I have turned off the news. I have turned off the Facebook pages of people who are only posting political rhetoric. I simply will not engage in that.
There is enough to talk about regarding life and the things around us (our families, neighborhoods, recipes, things going on in your life, etc) without trying to convince others that we're "right" about any given issue. Heck, people on Facebook are brutal if you post a recipe that they don't agree with-how are you going to convince them that a particular political or religious theory is the only way?

I just watched it.
The writer did make it seem like the JWs are obsessed with sex. Which, in the realm of sins, they are.
The teenagers getting a copy of Crisis of Conscience was interesting. I don't know what year it came out (can't remember) but, that would have been bold for 17-year olds to read. I doubt I would have tried and I had questions way back before. I wouldn't have bothered.
The Worldly cousin was a little disconcerting.
I was thinking of all the JW stuff that happened growing up (during the same time) and it pretty much mirrored the movie between friends and family. Very weird.
As noted above, you would have to have some understanding of the JW principals to understand what was going on.
And, yes, growing up a JW sucks no matter how you cut it.

I get my Mom trying to get me back with the "You know you can read all about the new stuff we're doing on JW.org. It has beautiful videos and all kinds of interesting things."
I've literally hung up on her mid-sentence. She will call back and I'll blame the cell service. I simply cannot stomach the thought of seeing or hearing about this Borg.

the second episode will air on 5/29 at 9:00 pm and jehovah's witnesses will be featured.
hopefully they do a good job exposing them for what they really are.

I looked on their website and they name lots of cults but not the JWs. I hope they show up...The first episode is May 28 and is on the group Nxivm. That is the group that came out in the last few weeks where celebrities and others were held as sex slaves for a nutty guru.

My JW Elder Brother Passed Away
by minimus inhe was basically a good man, just a believer in the religion.
when we were both elders we were best of friends and then things deteriorated when i was not an elder for a while.
then after becoming an elder again, i slowly drifted away from the religion and he drifted further away from me.

Very sorry for your loss Minimus. Losing a sibling, even one we've drifted apart from is difficult.
