Hello thinker. You know, I never 'thought' of that, but you are right. Ignore/Ignorance *IS* from the same root word. LOL

by hosebracket ini am new to this.. i have a problem.
someone on my ministry asked me about the date that we hold so dear....607 bce and asked me to prove it to them.
this would not be a problem i thought as the f&ds would have solid basis for using such a date.

Visiting a KH...
by ianao ina 'friend' of mine keeps telling me that everything i am reading here on this board is a packload of lies from people who have no respect for god.. he also tells me that if i would just go to the kh for once, that i would see for myself that jws are not the bad people that they are portrayed to be.. while i have my own convictions about this subject, i was curious to know what others' opinions would be on the fruitfullness of taking up this man's offer and going to the kh to see for myself.
so, what do you think?
what should i watch out for?

GOOD GOD ALMIGHTY!
OKIE DOKIE!
Did not mean to cause such a fuss! phew!
thinker's wife: If I ever do go, I will give a full report. Also, any scriptural differences would fall on deaf ears, as it already has to a VERY intelligent rank and file JW. STOPTHINK!
larc: I am blushing, and I am very said that you've been hit by the big snowball you call my intellect.
TR: Thank you for your lengthy post. I'm glad I'm communing with people who care enough to give warning. I hope you've benefited from your post though, because it sounds like you got a lot off of your chest.
Scorpion: Thanks for the warning.
Gozz: Thank you for your unique insight into this. What you say about older folks regarding things being as just another religion is interesting, to say the least. Unfortunately, my interest would be the structure of the meetings. True it would be nice to meet the people on a personal level, but I DO know from personal experience that discussing anything but everything that is only TRIVIAL with a JW is like talking to a brick wall. I do not consider 'church' a social affair (which is why I do not attend xtian churches.)
mommy (last but not least): Thanks for the clarification. I know that when I'm talking to a JW, I am really talking to a watchtowerite, or a member of the borg, as some put it.
Most of the comments raised here are at the Org, not the robotic rank and file. I don't think your words were harsh, as they were directed at the heads (who are responsible).
Also thanks for the anology, it hits home (re: the waitress.)
AND FINALLY!
To Jonathan:
Good friend, if you are reading this thread, do you truly see anyone that you can call 'demonized' or appostate?
You know as well as I do that a BIBLICAL appostate is one who hears of the Christ and his message, then denies it as true. An appostate to the GB is NOT an appostate to the Bible. These are good people!
I don't have demons coming into my home and haunting me because I am talking to NORMAL PEOPLE.
Some of these people like trevor and TR are bitter, and with good reason. You did read the posts didn't you?
Others, such as mommy, are just as loving and caring as any 'good' sister in your congregation.
Jonathan, you know how computers work. The only viruses they carry are malicious programs. You tell me that superstitions are silly, and I agree. (YOOO HOOO! YOU are superstitious on this issue!)
Read others' experiences on this website my friend, you will see that it is full of people that are HURTING.
I am not going to lie to you, you are going to read about some who have strayed from Jehovah God's word, but remember:
THESE WERE DEVOUT JWs!!!! IN SERVICE, AT MEETINGS.
LOOK AT WHAT THE SOCIETY HAS DONE TO THEM!!! THEY DON'T EVEN BELIEVE IN THE BIBLE FOR GOODNESS' SAKE! They should have been counceled and cared for, as ANY good sheppard (sp?) would do. (Remember what Jesus did?) Who was the prime EXAMPLE!? But No! They are shunned and ignored, instead of ROUNDED BACK to the straight an narrow path. Repeat offenders? Some, maybe. But we are BORN INTO SIN. What was Jesus' sacrifice for? Remember the two-fold promise?
Ask them why... You will find it all has to do with the structure of the religion itself. Sure many of the ideals are scriptural, but !#@$!@#, the GB calls themselves the Faithful and Discreet, they are Not Jehovah God, and they are not Jesus Christ! They should not do so, for IN doing so THEY ARE PLAYING GOD!!!!! This is exactly what 'christendom' does Jonathan.
The FEAR involved with following God is imposed by God himself, not fear of losing family and friends. Remember the TRUE God fearers in the OT? JEHOVAH GOD is to be feared and revered!!!
Read these posts Jonathan. Look at others' points of view. You will see why people slam the door in your face. You preached to me time and again for so long that Jesus was NOT God, so why don't you wake up and realize that the society is not God!!!!!! You have elsewhere to go! Read galatians, 1 & 2 Timmothy, the OTHER HALF of Ephesians. These scriptures apply to YOU too. If they didn't, then YOU would not have been baptized for YOUR sins. Period.

DANGIT! SCHOLAR!
People like you MAKE ME SO ANGRY!!!
You come on boards like this with a "holier than thou" attitude that your spirit directed 'FDS' as so appointed (by themselves), has the ultimate 'truth' and everyone else is a part of satan's system.
Pardon me if I don't give a "dragon" such undue credit.
Sure, you can spat scripture at people who are ignorant about the Bible. That is no problem for you, as you are trained in it EVERY DAY.
Why don't you answer thinker's post? He has gone to the trouble of gathering info and posting to you, why don't you do the same?
I bet I can guess why...
IT'S BECAUSE ANYTHING YOU SAY IS OPEN TO INTERPRETATION. While no crime is committed in having a different INTERPRETATION, a crime IS committed when INTERPRETATION is considered 'truth', especially when that INTERPRETATION is determined INCORRECT/FLAWED, and people's lifestyle, security, and sometimes HEALTH are effected.
The society has admitted themselves that their flickering light is like a sailboat swishing down the currents of a stream, trying to get to a final destination. That's fine, but it's when they don't put SAFETY JACKETS on the people in the boat, then they fall overboard and DROWN, is when I PERSONALLY have a beef.
END OF RANT
Now, will you puuuurrrtttyy puuuuhleeehhhzzzz answer thinker's post, IF YOU CAN! I would like to see the housers of 'truth' respond to the points brought up! Convert me dangit! You have truth, PROVE IT!
Oh, don't think you have to prove it to us, that's fine. Every person has a defense mechanism they imploy to avoid conflict. Please set that ASIDE and be 'Scholarly'.

Hello All.
Thank you for your kind responses.
Now, if I can just get my JW friend to take a look at this website. He seems so curious to know what appostates think. This MAY be his chance, *IF* I can get him to read this article.
Thank you for ALL of your responses.

Living A Lie
by MoodyBlue ini am sick of living a lie, yet afraid to change it.
married to a man who refuses to listen, who would rather plug his ears and shout "nooooooo" is taking it's tole.
i am afraid to speak my mind about my doubt, my thoughts, and what i'm learning, as i'm not ready to cross that point of no return.

MoodyBlue, please remember that there are others on their f*cking computers right now trying to respond and help you. I think you DO have someone to talk to, and I believe you are doing a good job.
Any advice given you is not from your perspective personally (otherwise, you would not need the advice!)
Others will argue with me on this, but let me tell you that looking for truth and a solid answer in life is futile. You have been previously led to believe that this was NOT the case. I feel your pain.
Life has more important things. Think about your family. Do they not Love you? If they don't want you to 'whine' about this, than DON'T! FORGET IT! GET ON WITH YOUR LIFE! GET A HOBBY! DO SOMETHING FUN! You have obviously told them everything there is to tell them.
This really frustrated me too. I thought that someone was telling me x, y, then z, and THAT WAS IT! Life cannot be explained that way. Never will be. (At least not while we are alive now). Dwelling on these things is pointless. In the end, you've wasted your life away.
Get back into the 'world' that you were BORN in. Take advantage of it. Pursue a personal career. Heck, if you can't stay away from religion, and you don't want to join one then study THEOLOGY and learn about how every other person handles religious matters.
Oh, and if you want to join another Bible-based religion, than so be it. Just remember, the xtian dillema is always: "us" vs. "them", "good" vs. "bad". "annointed" vs. "damned". I have nothing against a persuit of Jehovah God, but remember, it's the "us vs. "them" that has you so angry right now, so I would caution you to avoid the psychological trauma. Plain and simple.

MoodyBlue, you sound a lot like me. I truly KNOW your pain.
There is a chemicle produced from your brain that is a result of a belief and a practice in a higher power than you. Apparently it is unique in humans and is called, albeit unofficially "Skyfire".
Traces of this chemicle found at archeological digs are what tell researches that a specific place was used for worship. It is found in abundant amounts in certain areas of the great pyramid.
Apparently (and this is a personal observation from experience) an excess of this chemicle in your body will cause symtoms of depression and anxiety.
I have never found another group of individuals who express these behaviors more than Jehovah's Witnesses. I could speculate as to why, but that is not my point.
My point is, QUIT WORRING ABOUT YOUR ORIGINS. QUIT LOOKING FOR A PURPOSE. YOUR PURPOSE IS TO LIVE!!!! Otherwise, you would not be here to ask the question!!!
Live your life. Help others. Do whatever eases your concience (assuming that you have a good one, Stay away from things that make you feel guilty, sad, and even ANGRY, and if you have these feelings now, release your frustrations on this message board. This is what it is for (has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!)
After you have calmed down, you can deal with the issues you are facing objectively. Trying to deal with these issues in your current mental state is self-destructive. (It also hurts the ones who Love you).
Also PLEASE NOTE. When I say LOVE, I am NOT talking about the CONDITIONAL love that you receive from JWs. I am talking about someone who will be there for you through thick and thin, hot or cold, not someone who will leave YOU in the cold when you disagree using the FREE WILL that you were given when born.
If you currently have nobody in that category, then I think you've come to the right place. (Am I wrong anyone?)
Am I officially trained as a Psychologist? No.
Do I know from first-hand experience? Yes.to sum up:
"Chill out, before you burn up!"

What are the reasons?
by neyank inhi all,.
someone asked me the other day why i am so interested in reading about jws,ex jws and things that are going on with the wts.. i think for the most part, only those who have been involved with the wts can understand why we are so interested in the subject.. of course having believed everything the wts has told us over the years and dedicating our lives to it kept us tied in with them.. what are the different reasons that you all have for continuing to be preocupied with the wts?.

I have been following this thread, and one thing that drives me a little crazy, is addressing our Father by his name. I think it is great that we know our Father's name. But to address him by Jehovah, just seem so disrespectful I always thought this as an active JW, and now find it deplorable knowing what I know about the WTBTS. When we ask our earthly fathers, we would never call him Jim, Bob, George, but affectionately dad, daddy, father, papa, etc. So I wonder how does God feel when we pray and address him as Jehovah.
I know that we are to pray to the father in Jesus' name. One of the main ideas of Jesus was to SANCTIFY his Father's name.
sanc·ti·fy (sngkt-f)
v. tr. sanc·ti·fied, sanc·ti·fy·ing, sanc·ti·fies. To set apart for sacred use; consecrate.
To make holy; purify.
To give religious sanction to, as with an oath or a vow: sanctify a marriage.
To give social or moral sanction to.
To make productive of holiness or spiritual blessing. How can you sanctify a name you don't even know? YHWH is God's personal name. How can you have a personal relationship with him without his name? Kind of impersonal, isn't it?
And another thought, just think the WTBTS says that's what set them apart from the other religions, it that they are the ONLY religion that call the Father by his name. A name that they inserted into the their translation, and a name that we are not sure we are pronouncing correctly.
I agree with you regarding the actions to set themselves apart. Please remember that they did not 'insert' that name into their translation. They rendered it, as stated in the scripture.
On a second note, I am aware of their changing 'Lord God' to read Jehovah in the NT. In areas where OT scripture was being cited, the convention is acceptable, IMHO. It's when they insert it in areas just because it reads 'Lord God' is when they are stepping over the line. Sure Lord God is God, you don't HAVE to beat the name Jehovah into people's heads. Or do you?
Please remember that the whole idea of JWs was having TRUTH. One truth that they adhere to (IMHO with good reason) is that of no triune God. It's hard to witness to people when you are constantly playing word games over scripture and translation, which is often the case when others witness to other denominations who regard the whims of a homosexual as a blessed translation of God, namely the King James VERSION.

Hello everyone. Just a quick comment...
I'm starting over from scratch. Reading Sitchin's "Earth Chronicles". Gives a whole new outlook to the creation of our planet and how it got inhabited. It also gives a new perspective on the "nephilim" of the bible and man's relationship with the "gods". I'm not sure how Christ ties in with his theories. Haven't read that far yet. There are 6 books in the "Earth Chronicles" series and two others that are related to his findings. "Genesis Revisited" was very interesting. Kind of a summary of the series.
I guess I'm not a Christian by most people's definition. I have strong moral values and ethics, but like Simon says, you don't have to be Christian to have them.
Be VERY careful TR. You might not like what you find. Also, take what you read with a grain of salt. People like Zechariah Sitchen have interesting theories, but admist them is much scholarly controversy, almost as much as it over the Bible in general.
As for my beliefs. I do not measure things in 'belief' but in understanding. My current understanding of religion is along the same lines with Simon. I too see it as a way to explain the unexplained.
Yes, I do believe that Jehovah is THE Almighty God (ONE God, ONE Person).
I also believe the Bible WAS the inspired word of God.
