When my 20 YO son turned 3, I wrote the society and asked them this quastion. They referenced me to an upcoming article that spoke of how MATURE christians would not celebrate birthdays. In my letter I referenced Job's children and the angels that celebrated Jesus' birthday. It seemed like a conscience matter, just don't tell anyone (kinda like college)

NEW RUMOR: WT ALLOWS BIRTHDAYS
by J.R.R.Watchtower ini've just read at a spanish forum for ex-jw that the wt has cooked a new light article series about social celebrations, including birthdays and aniversaries.
according to a member of this forum 'in short' the wt will let witnesses to decide by 'their bible trained conscience' either they celebrate birthdays or not.
is this rumor based in some real facts or it's just bullshit?.

CO talked out of both sides of his mouth
by life is to short intoday was the last day of the co's visit, my husband stayed home from the meeting and we painted the house together which was good, but he wanted to tie into the meeting, i was ok with it as it allows me to point out the stupid parts of this religion.
there were many things that made no sense but one that truly stuck out.. in his talk the co went on about how there are so many things satan uses to distract us from jehovah and one of them was fear of our future and how some work all their lives for retirement, many at jobs they hate.
people do not enjoy the here and now all out of fear for what will happen when they grow old.

Great POST!!
I love it when individuals post topics like this. Sometimes I sit in the hall and wonder if I am the only intelligent one there. I have discovered that The typical J-Dub has NO reasoning ability. I think many really believe that the END is coming tomorrow; So I gotta pioneer ASAP.......When they reach their 60's and 70's with diabeties and HBP, some realize that the dream will be unfulfilled. They become inactive, smoke and do the things they saw their NOW retired peers doing at 20 while in college. I know a pioneer, (Presiding overseer) elder that became inactive the last 4 years of his life. His daughter told me AFTER his death that he was so disapointed that he was going to die in this system, he started smoking and drinking and gambling and.......... The life of an elderly Jay Dub is truly miserable and unfullfilled!!!

What made you leave "The Truth"?
by Chemical Emotions infor me it was many things.
most concerned certain teachings that invloved genders, children, sex, sexuality and sexual orientations, disfellowshipping, apostates, blood, rape, and few other things, as well as the jw's unloving attitude toward so many people..

The "Evil Apostates" held signs up at our convention. I saw one regarding 1975 and it referenced a 1968 WT. Many (possibly 20) years later I looked it up and saw the article regarding "Why I was looking forward to 1975"
The generation change was the ultimate. They NEVER admitted that they made a mistake.
Later blood became an issue as well. I knew that I would NOT let my family die and then the WT change the issue to one of conscience.

What is difference between Black Congregations and White Congregations
by Pitchess Co-Gen ini'm from south los angeles and been to black congregations all my life, but i moved 70-75 miles north from where i grew up.
i just want to know the difference ..

Another distinctive difference was the speakers. Growing up in the org., Young black brothers are expected to give GREAT talks. I gave a GREAT talk (IMO) and recieved 7 minutes of counsil for having my legs too far apart. I was JUST 16, but very arrogant. I think the black halls are TOUGH on all speakers. They EXPECT GREAT talks ALL the time. In white halls, it was very rare to get an IMPACTFUL motivating speaker. I actually scheduled / requested brothers from my hall in South LA to visit all of my white congregations. Ironically, many of the Black brothers in white congregations were below average speakers.
This is JUST my personal experience / observations.

Great question. I like many others did the same thing. I actually loved participating and having friends in the black hall. I LOVED the people. I felt guilty when I missed a meeting. In the white hall that I attended in the Antelope Valley, the black friends went out of their way to show warmth. The white friends seemed to be more concerned about the clothes or shoes my wife wore. Some would not talk if she had on something new. It was a weird energy in the hall because it was KINDA integrated. People interacted, but still had segregated parties. Everyone had a long commute, so missing the meetings was not a problem. I loved that about the white halls. We NEVER had a sheparding call from a white elder. I work in an integrated environment and I get more LOVE from co-workers.
80 miles out? Are you going to Palmdale or Moreno Valley?

Terrible Analogy at a Convention
by ApostateDance ini'd love to know what you guys think of this.
brother jackson (from the governing body) had this "neat" analogy at the very end of the convention.
he said; "what if you were watching a football game on tv, and it was the trojans against the fighting irish, and it's been a good game.
-

Stupid analogy?
He decides to use the greatest college football team in an illustration and you evil apostates complain?
You will all be destroyed for that one!!!
........and Vince Young's knee was DOWN!!!

Do You Think It Is Wrong To Stereotype?
by minimus ini know we are supposed to be politically correct but i don't always feel that this is warranted.. i do think that certain things might be generally true and could be viewed as stereotyping.
for example, if i see a young person driving a car very slowly, i might think that they are texting and driving (or else are asian).
now that might not have sounded proper, but i do think it's generally true, from my experience driving in the city.. if i see a "butchy" looking woman, i generally assume the woman is gay.
-

Stereotypes are occassionally based on some truth. Unfortunately a shred of truth is usually spread to an entire group. I mean really, can you say that all Asians are good at math? All whites are part of a masterfully schemed ruling class? all blacks are democrats that support Obama?

"Overlapping generation" explanation - TRANSCRIBED EXTRACT from Friday's talk (DC 2011-12)
by AnnOMaly ini thought this would be easier to examine if written down:.
god's kingdom will soon come.
so we know that god's kingdom will soon come.. .

The witnesses have been very consistent in ALWAYS saying the end is coming tomorrow, so be ready!!
Instead of loosing the reins a little, they hold dear this dogmatic view. This works GREAT with new converts (I gotta get baptized before the end comes), but it tires out long-time J-Dubs.
This is the reason for encouraging so many to learn a foreign language and expand their ministry; otherwise the typical witness would get bored with the flawed/false reasonings and leave in droves.
Thanks for posting, great notes!!

Are more long standing JW's leaving?
by cantleave inat one time, it seemed that the majority of those leaving, were young ones brought up in the cult.. from what i can see now (at least on here), there seems to be a high number of 20+ baptised members years leaving.. has this always been the case?
it might be i just didn't notice from my parochial view from the kingdom hall!.
or are there really more long standing jw's leaving now, than ever before?.
-
SouthCentral
Good observation SC. I think it would be fair to say that more long standing JWs are MENTALLY LEAVING. They are there in body, but that's it. And frankly, they are not there in body as regularly as they used to be. HUGE problem with meeting attendance everywhere. Our circuit, meeting attendance 20-25% lower than publisher count.
So many have left mentally.
Regarding living a Lie and the blood issue, many will acdcept blood and say they are christian on their forms. The elders will never know.
I personally told someone that this many years ago, I said that this is what I would do. THEY eventually did it opon having a hip replacement surgery, a pioneer MS took blood. ....I found out years later that he did this when he thanked me for the advise.........
I think many in their 40s are aware of the flawed doctrines, but really, arn't all religions flawed?

"Overlapping Generations"... one year later...
by Alfred inwow, it's hard to believe it's already been about a year since this subject was covered in the wt study at kindgom halls around the globe... let's read it just one more time, so we don't forget just how ridiculous this sounded when we first read it.... watchtower (study edition), april 15th, 2010 issue, pages 27-29:.
"this magazine has long been used by the faithful and discreet slave as the primary channel for dispensing increased light.
... what does this explanation mean to us?
-
SouthCentral
When this adjustment came out, I officially STOPPED keeping up with doctrine and just completely gave up. The explanation is idiotic. I can't believe that a Thinking J-Dub would accept this or better yet EXPLAIN it!!
lol
