the award can be explained as it was decided: separate compensatory and punitive damages.
the punitive award is established in law to punish wrongdoing - here, the conscious disregard for others - and deter that conduct in the future.
Has anyone brought this attention to the Canadian Media yet?

I might write to other media outlets tomorrow if I have more time. $28million judgement is a big deal, I only hope more media picks up this story.It's important that media knows that jws who may be preaching at the public's door may be registered pedophiles or known pedophiles only to church leaders which pose danger to not only church members but also the public.

They didn't post anything about '07 settlements for quite some time after, I know I contacted the bastards by phone in June of the year, over a month after the settlements, and they didn't want to talk to me regarding the lawsuits and there was nothing posted in their site for some time after. I doubt they will post anything unless there is enough of dubs calling to find out what the fuck is going on in their paradise, until there is enough inquiring callers, this is no big deal for wts PR. Why post this on their web site now when the news isn't spreading amongst jws, why inform them when you don't have to. If there is enough inquiries regarding it, PR can always spin it however they want, post something telling dubs that only one case has been lost in court against one individual in all the countries in thousands of congregations and how much better wts world is then all others.

Good to see some more court docs. Ok, so if the elder is an agent of wts, does that mean wts (employer) has to cover the costs? If not, they will let the elder take the blame for the "team". If wts would have to cover agents expenses, this would likely mean they will appeal as it would mean that wts would be liable for all elders and ms around the country. Maybe Barbara can add to this, but wasn't KH fund only limited to a certain amount and anything over the limit was covered by another insurance, it's been a long time since I've read '07 child abuse documents but this part somehow sticks in my head for some reason.
Congregation's portion being over $910,000 means they may have to sell the building to cover the expenses or take a loan from wts, but if KH is owned by wts, the congregation has nothing to offer but may declare bankruptcy and payout nothing, which may be another reason why wts is starting to take ownership of khs. Local congregation without assets cannot lose much from these lawsuits, you can't squeeze blood out of a stone.

today i added a new article to my blog addressing a dated and signed statement by the watch tower corporation of its financial worth.
this information is provided for benefit of a jury that has already found in favor of a single plaintiff to the tune of 7-million us dollars and will today be asked to consider whether punitive damages should be added to its finding for the plaintiff.
Interesting, I never seen this before. It's interesting that their donations for '98 dropped substantially from previous period and that their interest revenue increased but also the size of interest alone is a lot. Their KH fund obviously was profitable as compared to their kh fund expenses. Since this is PA division, the NY has the printing facilities who's books may not look as nice as the PA division.

the wt has been found negligent and ordered to pay $7 million to a vistim of child abuse, plus punitive damages (not yet determined).. the punitive damages may well exceed the $7 million.
Since this isn't a class action lawsuit but individual, $7million is ALOT of cash and it would be newsworthy!
If they don't appeal first. PR will do same song and dance as they've done in '07 that it was an odd individual, they are very sorry for the victim(s) and may add that few elders didn't follow proper protocol but all congregations are reminded to report any pedophiles incidences to the proper authorities....blah..blah..blah.. Most likely they will appeal and won't say anything until the appeal is heard.
JWs will agree that wts is imperfect but is trying hard to do best they can, and it's not their fault that there are some wolves in sheep's clothing within their midsts. Blind will continue on as before - mind you MAJORITY of jws will never hear of this like majority still don't have a clue about '07 settlements.

Present troof is only 12 years old, anything older may be viewed as old troof and unreliable. JWs don't usually do research anyways, so 12 years of their latest crap is more than sufficient for majority of jws. I wonder if dubs will be encouraged to use this "valuable" resourse instead of wts-cd. This would mean less wts-dvds to be made, which would also mean a good way of eliminating it all together, which means no more pre-2001 material available to the jws and especially new recruits.
It's interesting that they don't have all these publications in pdf format to be downloaded (at present link to jw.org) which means old lite good be updated online without any noticing. But this is still at early stages so they may add more later on but I wouldn't hold my breath on that possibility.
texts differ in some respects from the original versions. The WTS did that with its Watchtower Library CD
Quendi:do you have any proof that they've changed text in cds from their publications? I know they've changed some text from mags to boundvolumes and transfered updated info into cd-roms which would mean they did likewise with revised books like revelation, but other than that, if you have specific changes that didn't take place in bound volumes but did occur on their digital format please share.

This is one great story with actual proof of court documents unlike the last one where we were going by an individual's words to which I still haven't seen any court documentation. This is great and I only hope this sets a presidence for other future cases, and I hope it helps victims to come forward knowing they have a chance in getting wts to pay out for evil they've done, which would also help lawyers to take their cases to court.
It wouldn't surprise me if wts appealed. Their lawyers are real scum, to continue representing low lifes who protect pedophiles, these lawyers can't be stupid and can't be that ignorant as not to see how wts policies are hurting r&f. It may be this case, or similar recent ones that have caused lawyers to state that r&f and not wts' reps and start to distance the corporation for the membership.
I hope there is more of these to come, and more losses for wts. Does anyone know if wts will actually have to pay out, or will their insurance cover the costs? I understand they have KH fund (insurance) which covers smaller costs but large sums would be paid out from actual insurers if I am correct.

as one of the rank and file at that company i can say even my direct manager has no clue what my job is like on a day to day basis.
Not all managers moved up the corporate ladder to where they are today but many have got themselves evil education and learned to manage business without needing to know the details of you job. Few are good at it, many aren't.
GB on the other hand, moved up from within r&f, so they know exactly how they were affected by wts and how they affect r&f. They are like those managers who weaseled themselves up to their post and treat people beneath them like dirt.

I agree with Lostgeneration. Those who shun wouldn't get any help from me regardless of help needed or who they are in the family circle.
Next thing you'll hear a story at a DC how a brother needed help and called another bro and got help but while an onlooking df/worldly/apostate didn't offer to or refused to help.
