The right to shun - wrong?

many people are understandably upset and angry at the notion that jws have the right to shun people.

it seems such an obvious "no brainer" cruel and inhuman thing to do - it must be wrong ... surely?.

of course we look at things from the perspective of those hurt and harmed by shunning.

People have it wrong. There is nothing wrong with you choosing to shun someone out of your own free will.

Problem here is that there is a third party causing the shunning and IMO that aspect could be legislated to be illegal and those organizations causing members to shun should be classified as cults, banned or at least lose their tax-free status.

If you belong to an organization and leave or get kicked out, sure you may not be allowed into the building but what you and other members do outside of that particular meeting/building should be non of the group's leaders business nor should they stop the active members from associating with you.

There is a difference between me choosing to shun someone because they did me wrong and me shunning someone because I have been taught or told to do so by organization/third party of influence.

does anyone know how to obtain a copy?.

i have poked around pennsylvania websites, attempting to figure out how to obtain the transcript, but recently, i have it on good authority that the transcript went missing from the pennsylvania archives over 30 years ago.

it is likely that there is vested interest (jws, bible students) to keep this hidden..

I looked around for the email but it's long gone. All I remember is that there was a web site that sold books on jws and these people also had the copies of the court transcript. Because it's so long ago I don't remember who I got it from, ask Atlantis or Andersons, they may have been who gave me the original info.

I looked into this about 6 years ago, and the price for transcript was around 200 usd if I remember correctly.

Just lurking here from time to time but decided to contribute to this one since many younger ones don't know the original BS calculations and supporting theology for 1914
"As we shall see, the Bible record extends to the first year of Cyrus, B.C. 536, a well established and generally accepted date." - 1889, The Time Is At Hand, page 38
Russell's Calculation:536BCE-70=606BC + 2520 = 1914
Problems:
536BCE isn't Cyrus's first year. Russell didn't realize that there was no zero year between BC and AD.
Solution:After 50 years they came out with a solution. In 1943, Cyrus became "ruler of the world" in 539, but his first year didn't complete until fall of 538 and by the time Jews got back home, had to be 537BC. So now we have:537-70 = 607 + 2520 + 1 year adjustment for no zero year = 1914
And there you have it. The troof with some fuzzy muff shows clearly that Jehoober is backing the filthy and disgusting scum-bag.

ps. Don't forget that the second supporting witness to 1914 was the stone witness, the pyramid of gyza. The measurements that supported 1914 prior to 1910 were 3416" afterwards revised to 3,457" and with similar fuzzy reasoning the end point remained 1914. Well they claimed that the end would began in 1914 and may linger through most of 1915 but no longer. - wiki Well, nobody remembers this since the pyramid was proclaimed to be work of satan :) by drunk Joe Rutherfraud.
The third support was 40 years from Jesus' return in 1874 but unfortunately this support gave way when 1874 seemed too distant and his return was officially moved to 1914 in 1943.
I think there was another line of support for 1914 that was linked to 1874 or around there.

i am very excited and hungry for the truth and have not missed a meeting or study since the memorial.

we do about 2 bible studies a week.

How many of you knew about YMCA while being dubs? I know I didn't or vaquely connected the religious aspect of it and I know JWs from my old congregation played basketball at YMCA on regular basis so let's not try to imply that anyone who says there were elder's kids playing at YMCA must be lying.

Was 1799 really changed in 1943?

i am a bit confused... i am looking at watchtowers from 1942, 1941, 1940, etc... and they are already saying that the enthronement, the last days, etc... all started in 1914.. does anyone know the last reference to the following dates:.

1914 as the end of the world.

1915 as armageddon.

1799 - taught until mid-late 1920s

1874 - began to be phased out from late 1920s, last mention of it I think was in wt 1932 and official change took place in 1943

1878 - was changed to 1914 in early 1920s (1922?)

1914 - was official date of end of gentiles, Armageddon, but a year or two prior to 1914 Russell did mention that it might be 1915 rather than 1914

1925 is a totaly different prediction that Rutherford came out with, which according to Rutherford had more bible support than 1914 itself.

Note that original dates were based on several calculation that tied the events together, it was something Russell appeared to have believed till the day he dropped dead. Read Thy Kingdom Come book for a deeper understanding of how these dates were supported

Also, wts explanation change from 1874 to 1914 doesn't really make sense since they used 6000 years to calculate 1874 and if KJ was problematic and was off by 100 years why didn't they move JC's return to 1975 rather than to 1914 which seen WW1 happen which was a good selling feature why JC returned in that year.

tower attacking families to save ones from apostates

i spoke with some one that recommends i step lightly for he said the tower may use there attorneys to attack me recommend to my wife to leave me (spiritual endangerment) and use their attorney's to then help her get complete custody of the kids.

has anyone heard of these guys doing this?

i don't doubt this guy former elder and bethelite and all, just wondering if any one here has experienced this or knows of this happening?

IF it ever gets to the point where she get wts lawyer and tries to keep your kids away from you because you no longer believe, not only have your own lawyer that specializes in divorce law but also contact the media, record the hearings and if legal post them on the net.
