I thought it was my wedding ring, but I have a large emerald and a good sized ruby that are most likely worth more. I actually have the good luck of having a best friend with an uncle in the jewelry resale business, so I can get real gemstones for about 5-7% of retail price, making a lot of what I own cheaper to buy than a decent piece of costume jewelry.

Yes. I am from a big family of JW's (they are pretty much the elder body for the 2 congregations that met in the hall) and I was (and still am) the only one in 4 generations of JW's on my mother's side of the family that up and left. I also don't think they saw it coming because I had led such a sheltered and restricted life, I know they didn't think I would be able to figure out how to leave on my own. I know they thought I would come running back admitting I was wrong and crying that the world was such a horrible place, and the bigger shock is that I've been out for over 13 years and built my own life, and obviously have no desire to go back.

Is the spring/summer weather in your area 'odd' this year?
by AK - Jeff inmuch of our spring was very cold, intermingled with the occasionally 'extreme' heat.
so far summer [which started this week] is cooler than any i can recall, but extremely wet and high humidity.
the entire house feels like a wet blanket.. the doom-sayer types are constantly remarking how this must mark 'something' if not the end.

What was your volunteer job(s) at DCs?

i used to volunteer as i really struggled to sit still all day, even with all the note-taking and sitting next to the deaf loop system and watching the bsl interpreter to try and learn a bit of bsl.. i have.... counted and voided food tokenspacked fruit bags at a sandwich stallcleaned the stadium at opening and closingcleaned and attended ladies toiletsmanned (or should that be womanned?!

I volunteered for anything I was able to (I am, only a lowly female, after all) that would get me out of my seat during a session. Never once did I ever clean a section, because that happened after the program.

Just had my first JW visit in almost 13 years. . . weirder than I could have thought.

Hadn't heard from her in a few weeks, but she showed up at my son's game yesterday. Says she'll come back next week for another one, she had so much fun. We haven't talked about anything JW at all, and she was even talking about attending our high school reunion?!?!

Right now I'm posting this message with a dog on my lap feeling rather sore from doing too much gardening yesterday. I think I'm hungry and will go make a turkey sandwich.
Seriously, though, I don't need to know when someone else is doing laundry or the fact that it is wine o'clock. I don't have a lot going on in my FB feed, because I've blocked quite a few people's posts from showing up.

I Feel Really Sad About This

she always asks my grandpa to take her, but he hasn't up until this point.
she's called several times to say they were coming, only to have my grandpa back out of taking her as she's unwell, and can't drive anymore.

I take them by once or twice a year. That seems to be about all my grandpa can handle. They're both old enough about the only time they leave the house is for meetings or service.

She's really old and has health problems, and is no longer able to drive herself. She makes it to every meeting and service on Saturdays, but something always comes up when she wants to go watch my kids do something. I really don't think my grandpa is comfortable with the idea of seeing my "worldly" self and family, and I know he's not okay in doing it in situations where he's surrounded by a pile of "worldly" people.
