Questions on new understanding (FDS - GB)

some questions arise with the new understanding:.

was there a slave class between the 1st century and the 20th century?.

in w march 1, 2004, it was stated, that the slave could not be a single man, because "acording to jesus words" the slave had started his work in 1st century and would still be in action in 20th century.. was the slave in action in 1914?

There has just been an announcement on one of the JW pages on FB regarding new light on the FDS and new understanding on Matt 24:45-47

Here is point No.5

"Now the big stuff! New Light! There were six talks by the Governing Body that lasted for 2hrs. It was a change in understanding of Matt 24:45-47. The change is our understanding of who the Faithful and Discreet Slave are and when they were appointed. Also who/what are the domestics and the belongings. Here is the sum up and of course there will be articles coming out in the Watchtower.

Because of the context of this chapter which is talking about 1914 onwards, it is no longer felt that the FDS was appointed in 33CE. So verse 45 mentions the appointment of the slave and this happened in 1919 after the cleansing of the organisation. Who are the FDS? It is a small group of annointed brothers during Jesus presence serving at Headquarters who are directly involved in preparing and dispensing spiritual food. This is in line with the scriptural example of how Jehovah has always used a small group of people to teach and dispense spiritual food to the many. In the first century not all of the annointed were involved in dispensing spiritual food. It was only the apostles and older men (governing body) who did so. So it is no longer the thinking that all of the annointed are part of the FDS. Only used to directly impart spiritual food. And the point was made that this does not mean the individual members of the GB are the FDS. They only act as the FDS when they are working as a collective body and making decisions regarding the dispensing of spiritual food.

Who are the Domestics? All who are fed spiritually whether of the annointed or the other sheep. (guess we of the other sheep got a promotion from 'belongings' to 'domestics')

What about verses 46 and 47? It says, happy is that slave if his master on arriving finds him doing so. Truly I say to you he will appoint him over all his belongings. Vs 46 mentions Jesus arriving. This is not in 1919 when he appointed the FDS but when Jesus comes during the Great Tribulation. This is based on the fact that the Greek word for 'arriving' is similar to those in vs 30 and vs 42 that mention Jesus 'coming'.

So what are the 'belongings'?Previously it was thought that dealt with the earth only. But the scriputre is not that specific. So the belongings include the heavenly and earthly interests. The authority over the belongings will be given after the annointed receive their reward in heaven. So, all of the annointed will eventually be given this authority.

Im sure there are lots of questions about this sum up but at future, Watchtower will explain it in detail.

King Solomon. I understand what you are saying. I didnt actively seek her out. She replied to a question on one of the pages, where it was asked if you must be part of the organisation in order to be saved. She responded with the answer that Jehovah sees the heart and only he will decide. I posted a link to quotes from the WT where they have stated you must be a JW, or be part of the organisation to be saved. She then conversed back and forth with me and offered me a Bible Study so that I could understand their teachings. I declined more than once but we still conversed for a while when she put the offer to me again.

I decided to accept, but explained to her that I would ask questions. That I wouldnt accept anything she put to me unless she backed it up with scripture or facts. I told her I knew about their teachings, which is true. That I am acquainted with the Bible, which is true. That I have family who are JWs, which is also true. So far, I havent lied to her.

I do the same as you on FB. I am on many of the recovery groups and do what I can to support those questioning or who are on their way out. With this particular woman, I think the reason I finally accepted her request to study is because she is a grandmother with 11 grandchildren. She is only in the org. 5yrs and I know how she would have 'changed' with her involvement with her family....(no Christmas, Birthdays, etc). Her husband is not a witness. I am thinking beyond my conversation with her and am thinking that she may be trying to indoctrinate her own kids or grandchildren. We all know the dangers of the org especially where children are concerned. Also, she is a regular pioneer trying to bring people into this cult..... there is a chance she will be successful.

I dont know if what I say or show her will wake her up even a little, but it may do so in the future. I am not going in heavy handed with her, not at all. I am going easy and trying to stay under the radar just a bit, agreeing where I see fit, and disagreeing where necessary. I know people make their own choices and if she wants to stay a JW, then she will regardless of what I say. I see it as a worthwhile thing to do. I only wish I had learned much sooner what I know now instead of wasting 24yrs of my life as a JW.

Thanks for the info folks. Blindnomore, that is helpful. I have already discussed the Jewish and Christian traditions involving gathering for worship etc, and what it means to treat a person as a 'man of the nations' or 'as a tax collector'. She is keen to move away from this subject. I asked her what her definition of 'shunning' was and she again said, 'Lets just leave this for now and move on. It will become clearer to you as you find out more'. Think she got nervous when I said I found some Watchtower quotes that I would post to her. I will post the information and then agree to move on.

I agree, JW's lies when it suits them. Its just I dont recall that I would ever lie about the fact we had to shun those who were DF. Maybe she doesnt like the word 'shun'. Who knows? They are so intent on getting people in that they give them all the sugary stuff first. I think it threw her when I put that to her at this point in the study.

I will ask her what her definition of shunning is, and then Im ready to post the WT quotes and see what she makes of that.

I have recently agree to a 'Bible Study' with a woman, a grandmother, who is a regular pioneer and has only been a JW for 5yrs. Im doing this for the purpose of being able to throw some questions at her and to get her to think about what she is teaching me. Anyway, we've been through a few things from the 'Bible teach' book, when I asked her about the disfellowshipping practice. She went through the usual reasons 1 Cor 5 etc, when I challenged her on it, saying that there is no basis in scripture for shunning and if she could, could she provide me with an example of this.

She came back with this reply...."Jehovah's Witnesses do not 'shun'. That is done by Mormons I believe, although I am not certain of that"

Obvioulsy, because I know that they do, I called her on it again, and specifically asked her if she would talk to a disfellowshipped person, soicalise with them or even ask them how they are? She has done a good job in not answering me directly. In fact, she then said, to me, "We do not associate with them, if you call that shunning, that is YOUR definition, not ours".

I still pressed her on it but it seems she is very reluctant to admit that this is they conduct themselves in the event of a person being DF. In her latest comment she then claimed that it is the 'bad attitude' that they shun.

Im trying to work out why she is so reluctant to admit the shunning practice. My only thoughts are that she is embarassed to admit this to someone who is' only 'studying' cos she she keeps pleading with me to stick with the programme so that I will see the whole picture and 'understand'. But, all I know is that she was prepared to lie about this.

JW Study - OUT!!

a few months ago, i posted about a study who was getting baptised this summer at the upcoming dc.. we discussed a few things on fb.

i showed him evidence that the watchtower does not have the truth.

the last i heard was that he had gone to the elder's with the information i had given him.. i haven't heard from him since.. however, yesterday he contacted a jw, elder's son on fb.
