The Decline of Elders and Ministerial Servants
by Londo111 ini seem to remember somebody saying that since the 90's the number of elders has declined from 90000 to 60000. does anybody have any hard figures regarding this?.
the organization is desperate for "qualified" men.
but their standards are much too high, especially the monthly field service hour requirements tagged on to endless meetings and congregational busywork.

I guess the reason most elders serve in that role is because at some level, whatever the other motives, they believe their religion is the right one. This is quite a powerful drive.

Let's Discuss Ray Franz's Books
by Recovery ini have been repeatedly pleaded with to read the books of ray franz in my short stay on this board.
apparently these are all the all-powerful, wt crushing arguments, that lead so many to leave jw's and become ruthless opposers of god's people.
we can discuss any claims/statements/scriptural arguments presented in either of his books, as long as it somehow proves jehovah's witnesses are not god's people.

That's a very interesting observation isaacaustin. The lady doth protest too much, methinks.

Good point KoS: how can one reasonably critique a book without reading it?

Did you know some witnesses who wanted to an Elder or M.S for the fame?
by Pitchess Co-Gen ini'm talking about how they pretend to love the congragation, but they really don't .
they strive to be "circuit superstars" ; instead of careing for the flock .
did you guys know any people like that while you were in ..

Who Really is The Faithful and Discreet Slave?
by Recovery inlet's assume, as most of you probably believe, that the anointed christians are not the fds.
if the anointed are not the fds, who are?.

It seems perfectly reasonable to have a debate on here between folks who accept the bible as an authority, perhaps even between believers and non-believers from a theoretical point of view at least. I don't quite understand why JWs shouldn't post here since not all of the members are 'apostate' in the strictest sense, or even inactive. In a way Recovery is preaching I guess.
If Recovery is asserting that the WTS position is correct, then that position must be shown to be absolutely correct based on both scripture and the logical interpretation of it. It is not sufficient to simply propose a position and bat away relevant objections just because they don't scripturally completely refute it, particularly if there are associated logical objections to the WTS's position. This seems to me to be especially true if an objection is based on potential ambiguity in the text. Surely it is not necessary to show the WTS's position is wrong for Recovery's assertion to fail, merely that it may not be correct. This is because he is claiming to be right, not 'probably correct' or 'most likely'. The introduction of doubt is sufficient, one would have thought, to induce a reasonable person to accept that their position may not be correct, I don't get a sense of any equivocation in Recovery's position so simply saying 'well you have haven't undermined my positioncompletely so your objections can be ignored and I must be correct' seems somewhat illogical to me. They may of course believe whatever they like.
I have no interest in the scriptural position as I do not regard the Bible as any kind of authority, however if one accepts hypothetically that there is a specific 'discreet slave', the next logical question seems to me to be 'well, who is it?'. I cannot see, even if there is a specific 'discreet slave', how that could possibly be the WTS given their record before and after the date when they were supposedly 'approved' by Jesus who returned invisibly (I cannot see any other religious authority who would qualify either frankly).
As an outside observer (ex JW - thank 'God'), and not that this observation matters with respect to the content of the argument; Recovery, some of your objections to other posts as 'rants' look like gross exaggerations and border on ad hominem attacks - not particularly attractive if you are claiming the upper-hand spiritually. I wouldn't have thought this was a great advert for your supposed god-approved organisation frankly, maybe that's another reason the WTS want JWs to stay away from places like this.

Feel the Goddamned Love
by AK - Jeff inmy mil of 38 years - who has not spoken to me for the 9 years since i left her cult - died on sunday.. today, as a favor to my sil who has spoken to me very rarely, for the same reasons, over the same period of time, i was moving some personal items to her home from the nursing home.
in this instance i guess it is ok to speak with me - if i have a strong back and a conveyance that aids her needs at the moment.. anyway, in the parking lot of the apartment complex where she lives, while we are moving in those items, guess who shows up?
five or six of my old 'best friends'.
