Thanks for posting. Can you explain how this is double dated and what that means? This looks really interesting but I'm afraid someone is going to have to connect the dots for this mermaid...

A "new" tablet double dated that refuted the idea of a co-regency between Darius I and Xerxes
by chasson ini have found by inadvertance a tablet that confirm that there never had a co-regency between darius i and xerxes in a french's website "achemenet.net".. it is important, because i have never seen before a double-dated tablet between this two kings, and rolf furuli, as gerard gertoux a french jw, has tried (in accordance with the book "insight" of the watchtower) to prove a co-regency between the two king in the final goal to have the 20th years of the king artaxerxes in -455. this date is important for the jw's calculation of the prophecy of daniel 9, concerning the 70 weeks.. if there is no co-regency so the reign of artaxerxes has really start in -465 (and note -475 like the jw's theory) and the interpretation of the 70 weeks of daniel by jw is false.. here is the translation in english of this tablet, that carl olof jonnson has provided to me, after i have contacted him concerning this tablet.

Crisis of Conscience page 23
by Butterflyleia85 in"the society's vice president, fred franz, was acknowledged as the organization's principal bible scholar.
on a number of occasions i went to his office to inquire about points.
to my surprise he frequently directed me to bible commentaries, saying, "why don't you see what adam clarke says, or what cooke says," or, if the subject primarily related to the hebrew scriptures, "what the socino commentaries say.".

Butterfly--I made the comment I did (a few days ago) because of all the layoffs at the Brooklyn Bethel, which were primarily ones in their mid thirties to late forties, who had been there for 20 years or so (or less). Why would they be let go? Generally, that's the most productive time in worker's life. Yet Bethel is still bringing in young ones. What's the biggest diff? Health care costs. There's a reason why, when you turn 40, your health insurance premium jumps (a lot, in many cases). You're at the point where you start needing more health care and more serious kinds of care. Bethel self-insures, which means when a 50 year old needs a cancer operation, Bethel pays out of its own pocket. They don't like to do that.
Admittedly, I have no hard evidence; this is just an observation. But I do know firsthand of a family member (that is, of my family)who was given his walking papers after serious health issues arose, and another one who was diagnosed with a life threatening illness immediately after being let go (after being there 20+ years). He was given some financial help by the Society (but not enough to handle the magnitude of the treatment he needed) and then "strongly encouraged" to go on Medicaid.

Where could I go to find more about the WT fight against the Spain law re pensions and their ensuing loss? I mean, if I needed evidence to show someone about this? Thanks!

The Rise of the Conscious Class
by truthseeker in"i believe in one god, and no more; and i hope for happiness beyond this life.
i believe the equality of man, and i believe that religious duties consist in doing justice, loving mercy, and endeavoring to make our fellow-creatures happy.
but, lest it should be supposed that i believe many other things in addition to these, i shall, in the progress of this work, declare the things i do not believe, and my reasons for not believing them.

Count me in--I heartily echo the sentiments already expressed--I'm so grateful to Simon for starting this place up and for all of you fellow CC members for contributing. Yes, I would as well feel slighly loony (well, er, more than I normally do, anyway) if I wasn't able to read all of the Coming-To-Consciousness experiences here, all of the amazing and scholarly research and all of the ongoing analyses of what this crazy organization is up to.

Actually, I think the real reason for personnel churning at Bethel is far more prosaic: Young ones don't need the kind of expensive health care that older ones do.

Yet Another Generation: What Have JW's EVER Got Right? (a Public Service Announcement)
by AllTimeJeff inin the april 15, 2010 wt, the new governing body of jw's have once again changed their ever problematic teaching regarding the "generation" that saw the sign jesus spoke of mt: 24:32-34.
(note, all references to "generation" in this article are in reference to this passage in mt 24).
the reason that this shows why the governing body is a fraud is very simple.

Seems to me that it shortens it to two overlapping generations.
Yet, Mad Sweeney (and Paul), another take would be that it lengthens it--the way is totally open for the overlapping to be stretched and stretched--who says it's only 2 generations that have to overlap? As another poster here commented, there have been overlapping generations of annointed since 33 CE, according to still-current (ahem) WT theology!

I think these are all cogent comments, but I can't escape the feeling that another shoe needs to drop. I have no idea why.

My Stuggling Life Story
by Coreash inbefore i begin " my struggling life story" names have been changed to protect there identity.it all started for me at the age of about 10 when myself and most of my mates used to bother with the girls down the road.we all used to play as young children did but it was after the girls had gone in where we would sit around and chat and as boys do, used to ask who fancied who etc etc.
well for me i wasn't that interested and thought nothing of it.
it was only when i started comprehensive school did i notice that i was slightly different to all my mates/friends.

You are welcome here. Thank you for sharing your story.
You are a valid person with tremendous worth. Don't let anything or anyone convince you otherwise. Your kids need you so much, gay or not. Okay, so you're gay. That's who you are. We're all SOMETHING and that's what you are. Your challenge now is to be the BEST gay guy you can be--the kind, caring and compassionate queer that's been squashed down all these years. He's there, I know it.
As another poster suggested, get some good, professional help. You've been abused and that messes you up big time. You need to heal. You need to heal for yourself and for your kids. It can be done; you're not alone. This is a good place to be.
Peace.

JW Science Quote (January 2010)
by TD inthere is a certain faith within the jw community that almost any problem can be answered by the "bulging brains" in brooklyn.
reading the awake!
regularly over a period of years has been compared to receiving a college education and one board participant here actually refers to jw researchers and writers as "celebrated scholars.".

...the real curiosity about this fossil was not the skull at all, but the fact that the shape of the pelvis and knee joints indicated that it was not primarily a quadruped.
I appreciate TD's post. This, IMHO, is the where the bigger deception comes in. Australopithicine skulls are simian in size and cranial capacity and not particularly noteworthy in terms of what they say about hominid ancestory; the big news about Lucy is that her post cranial skeleton was so close to ourselves. She was clearly a biped, as TD's post alludes.
I respect TD's request that this thread keep away from arguing for or against the merits of evolution and so I'll refrain from commenting on the significance of this, but for the Creation book to mention australopithicine skulls, aside from the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the line drawings, and to say nothing about the rest of the species' skeleton is akin to reporting on the discovery of a lost play by Shakespeare and only describing the kind of paper it was written on.
