These are apparently private tours by JWs (pios who do it for a "contribution," I believe), who highlight the "historical evidence" for various Bible events or prophecies. There are a variety of themes, but I had a relative just take one on the Woman and the Seed/Offspring (is "offspring" the new word for JWs?). She thought it was the most amazing thing since sliced bread but I was curious if anyone here has taken one and what their take is...

Reject WT Thinking - November 2017 WT article commented (p. 20)
by Master_Bob ini really liked this kind of articles when back in borg, because they address the issues i was most concerned about.
or at least i thought that they address, because they don't.
i marked all the deceptive techniques and logical manipulations they use as a mental exercise and would like to share with you.

Yes, thank you for your analysis. I skimmed the article and it is as shallow as a wading pool, making an attempt at some kind of analysis but instead of offering reasons for why an idea should be rejected, it offers belief statements. Unfortunately, most JWs will not perceive the difference.
But interesting that the writer is at least aware of the fact that all of these supposed indicators of the end times are decreasing instead of increasing! And equally fascinating is how the writer is still able to wrest the same-old, same-old interpretation from them.

Lessons learned from the wife of lot drama
by purrpurr inthe video drama shown at the recent comvention was called "the wife of lot".
i noticed some stuble lessons being taught in this soap opera style video.... firstly, all the bad influence comes from women, its the wife and the mother in law whose pushing for more money and a better lifestyle.
while the men remain loyal to god, can't show the men going astray now can we?.

In next year's sequel, in keeping with the Biblical account, the dad gets drunk and bangs the two daughters so he can produce some good sons that will stay in the truth. Those girls, only good for one thing...

My jaw dropping OMG moment at the end of the convention
by UnshackleTheChains inyes folks.
over the past few days i can honestly say the convention was relatively quite good.
most of the talks, videos, symposiums were in line with scripture if you have faith in the bible.

While it is true that WWII was horrendous, likely the war with the biggest impact in terms of sheer numbers, what JWs fail to notice is that it was followed by 70 years--a lifetime--of what historians consider to be one of humanities' most peaceful and prosperous eras, the so-called Pax Americana, in which physical well-being, longevity and personal incomes rose more than any other time, relatively speaking. (Note that this doesn't mean there weren't famines, wars, etc. in a localized or limited scale but in comparison globally to other times. See Max Roser and his fascinating historical graphs.)
So how what I want to know, from JWs, is how you fit that into the last days signage? I have had this convo with my believing husband and he hems and haws. This fact is, of course, never addressed.

I was impressed by part of today's symposium entitled ' Safeguard your children from what is evil'
by UnshackleTheChains inwell i have to give credit where credit is due.
it was the part of today's symposium - build a house that will endure.
the part i was most impressed with was 'safeguard your children from "what is evil".

I heard that talk, too, and as has been already described, the focus was primarily on parents talking to their children about sex so that the children know what is "approved by Jehovah." In other words, the goal is to educate them as to what is a sin and what is not, so that if they are approached, they know that to engage in sex or touching would be displeasing to Jehovah, the idea being that if the child knows what is right and what is wrong, then they won't go along with whatever an abuser wants to do!
Okay--so many problems with this. First of all, the implication is that the child has some degree of responsibility, since the child knows what is a sin and what is not, and that there is some degree of control and even complicity on the part of a child if they are assaulted. That is absolutely nonsense and part of the "blame the victim" mentality at which the Society is so adept. This stance is supported by the admonition in the talk about dressing modestly, as if the child is in some way seducing--and again, responsible--for an assault. There was nothing about how a child is a victim and if an assault happens, your child is not to blame, nor was there anything about getting help or going to the police.

"Apostate" brother gives talk in Kingdom Hall and gets removed
by StoneWall inthis guy has to have the most courage of anyone i've ever seen or balls the size of basketballs.he actually gives a good talk and has tidbits scattered about throughout his public talk with hints, suggestions, innuendos of the wt organization.i never want to go in another kingdom hall again in my life but would have made an exception just to be in this audience.
lolnotice what's going on in the audience when they realize somethings up.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hqqt0y1peuu.

This was outstanding--I have to thank Stonewall for posting and the "apostate" brother for doing what he did. Wow--he gave a really excellent talk, truth be told, and he didn't say anything that was really shocking or out there, by any means--and yet they turned off his microphone. Wow.

Yeah, let me just reiterate--the horrorific scene near the end has Gloria aka the "wife of Lot" morphing into stone in a freaky-ghosty way, enough to give any kid a nightmare, seriously. Kind of cool effects but scary as hell (well, to me anyway--I have a very low threshold for anything like that, admittedly). Really weird to have something so horror-genre coming from the Society but hey--scare tactics at their best!

What's happening to the Seventh World Power?
by fulltimestudent inin the imagination of many christians (jws included) the biblical texts tell of each succeeding world power winning its position through the power of its armies, on the battlefield.
even the yhwh/jesus combo is imagined as winning in an enormously destructive battle.. the knorr/franz nomination for the world power no.7 - the anglo/american alliance certainly gained and still maintains its hegemony via its military power.
its battle fleets armed with the most destructive power in history patrol the world.

Oh, this is just great--I say to my husband that maybe the image is actually standing on a pediment, after all, and China is the pediment. Ha! I strongly recommend Fareed Zakaria's excellent book The Post-American World for anyone who still thinks the US is the final world power (not that anyone other than a JW would think so). But Zakaria lays out an impressive array of facts about how other nations, principally China, are catching up at light speed. The Society will eventually have to change their interpretation of the image's meaning and it will likely be something as nonsensical as the overlapping generation.

So I watched this in bits and pieces (all I could take) and--whoa. A few observations. First, special effects have definitely improved, although the acting hasn't. There is a super-creepy section toward the end where Gloria is "remembering the wife of Lot" and let me say--it could be lifted from a horror show. The rise in affluent Asians and their focus on financial success is clearly the impetus for this somewhat hokey movie. Even among JWs, Asian parents emphasize education and career, as I have seen first hand, and so this has not escaped the attention of the GB.
This movie is designed to make points at multiple levels. There is a scene where Gloria is watching the news and it's a BBC report of an 8.1 magnitude earthquake off of Taiwan, along with a global financial meltdown. It would seem that the Society is still beating that earthquake horse, even though it has been clearly shown to be a falsity. And the global financial meltdown? Um, wasn't that 10 years ago and haven't most major economies recovered?
I also noticed the old canard of "my workmates (worldly) aren't what they seemed to be..." like non-JWs are all engaged in subterfuge aimed at duping JWs. I have NEVER noticed this (in real life), but this gets repeated all the time in JW mythology.
So much manipulation, so little authenticity.
