I have renewed respect for law enforcement. That woman was a nut and he acted with admirable restraint.

Have you seen this appalling new Caleb and Sophia video??
by stuckinarut2 inthis manipulative new caleb and sophia video has got me so angry!!.
the level of cultiness has just gone to a whole new level!.

I thought they did make it clear that it was a violent video game, via Caleb's fantasy, and I have to say, as a parent, I can get behind that part of the message--way better for young kids to run around playing ball than be hunched over a screen shooting victims. And teaching kids not to cheat, well, no objection there. But it was all wrapped up in what we can easily identify as that particular brand of JW ideology--higher education is bad, even wanting/dreaming about it is bad and oh yeah--thousands of old men with white beards are watching your every move ALL THE TIME.
Yikes.

Ironically, it is those "disobedient" JWs who actually went to college and have decent jobs who will be providing the spare rooms and menial jobs that those middle-aged ex-Bethelites will depend on.
Ha, yes. My still-in elder husband's cong. is chock-a-block full of good JWs who avoided college and now don't have two pennies to rub together (with one or two exceptions). Every month, they run into the red just paying the most meager of operating expenses. He often comments that we are viewed as "rich" (we aren't) simply because our income is higher, we have health insurance, live in a nice house, etc. Why? Because I left thirteen years ago, got higher education AND a decent job. As an elder, he feels compelled to "top up" the congo shortfalls and it is the height of irony that he only has the freedom to do that b/c of his inactive wife's good job in higher ed!!!
And yes, I do point that out to him. (Sidepoint--makes me ill that even a penny of our household income is going to these bozos, even on the local level, but we have an agreement that we are each free to contribute to personal causes)

I don't agree with JW teaching but freedom of religion and belief is a fundamental human right. The Russian government's accusations are fueled by the Russian Orthodox Church's hatred of Witnesses. Russia is increasingly returning to the days of totalitarianism and oppression. Banning non-conformist, minority or unpopular religions is just one symptom--it is doing other unsavory things as well, such as squelching a free media. For anyone who cares about human rights, this is not a cause for rejoicing. Do you really think Putin will stop at JWs? Oppression of one minority usually means oppression of other minorities is soon to follow (if it has not already).

Interesting. I think the WT is contradicting itself because, if I remember correctly, hasn't it stated that God has ALWAYS had an organization on earth, in one form or another? So Jesus and his 12 would have been the earthly representation of God's organization on earth at that time, wouldn't they??? Therefore, their answer makes no sense.

Re: the woman parking attendants and real life
by carla inwith much amusement i read the thread on women parking lot attendants and it got me to thinking about life at home for the average jw.. i believe i am correct in thinking that anything to do with jw-ism requires a penis, except all the leg work (fs & pioneers).
meaning the mic's, talks, etc... but yet the same guy who thinks his wife (or any other woman) is not bright enough to run the sound system for example doesn't mind his wife hauling hay, digging in the yard, managing the checkbook and other various physical jobs as well as jobs that do in fact require a brain larger than that of a gnat?.
let's say a guy is a bit technologically challenged but he can manage the sound system at the kh ok. i imagine he feels proud that he is getting to do this great privilege?

This is one of the things that bothered me even as a very small child. I could never make sense of it. Interestingly, the WT seems to be softpedaling the whole submission thing, at least publicly. In one of the recent "public" mags, there was a cover article on family life, with advice for husbands and wives and--to my surprise--nothing was said about headship, submission, etc., just generic thoughts about showing respect to each other and working together. If you didn't know better, you'd think that the WT considered husbands and wives equal.
But this insistence that men, esp. elders, do literally everything in the cong. might contribute to the WT's eventual diminishment or downfall, since there are just not the males around to do all the work. In my husband's cong. of more than 120 pubs., he was lamenting one of the elders moving out, and that it would effectively leave three able-bodied elders to do all the work (alas, he is one of them). Even the MS's are elderly, with one or two exceptions. And this is in a "large" cong. I have to wonder if this will also maybe contribute to a further cutting back of conventions like the RC, since there are just not the males to "man" all the posts. HAHAHAHA!!!

Do You Ever Wish That Hillary Was President?

would you be happy if she were your president?.

I have to speak up. Hilary Clinton would have been 1000x better than Trump, who is an unmitigated disaster from any (knowledge-based) perspective. Although Bernie Sanders had some excellent ideas/platforms, it would have been more challenging to get consensus across party lines with him, due to his polarizing effect. That said, even he would have been better than Trump. Both Clinton and Sanders would have strengthened Obamacare and pushed for universal healthcare. They both would have offered a much more insightful/humanitarian approach to immigration while still understanding the need for security. Trump is terrifying, to be honest, and is doing terrible damage to US credibility and institutions, damage that will take a long time to fix. God help us all.

LEAK: 3000 buildings to liquidate. How to choose? (Watchtower propaganda video)

as the leaked financial meetings show, watchtower (by it's own admission) has to liquidate 3000+ properties quickly.
how do they choose?

Wow--they are in serious financial trouble it sounds like. As someone once said, you can only sell the family silver once. This organization is on an unsustainable track and it appears that they recognize it. Jehovah's blessings indeed! Wait--isn't he the one who owns all the "silver and the gold"?
